After watching the new Miami Vice film and hearing NonPoint's version of In The Air Tonight, I thought about the best cover versions by rock bands. My top ten would be: 1) Foo Fighters - Baker Street 2) Rage Against The Machine - Ghost Of Tom Joad 3) Pearl Jam - (Sittin' On) The Dock Of A Bay 4) Ataris - Boys Of Summer 5) Marilyn Manson - Sweet Dreams 6) Faith No More - Easy 7) Deftones - No Ordinary Love 8) Wicked Game - H.I.M 9) Whiskey In The Jar - Metallica 10) Sexual Healing - Soul Asylum
Have I missed any that anyone thinks should rate higher than these? Anyone got their own personal top ten?

I don't really have a top 10, but here's a few.
Prince - One Of Us (originally by Joan Osbourne) Rammstein - Stripped (originally by Depeche Mode)

I'd actually put Metallica's "Turn The Page" above "Whiskey In The Jar".
The covers of "Baker Street" and "Sexual Healing" are two of my favorite covers ever. I'd also put Fountains of Wayne's "Baby One More Time" up there.

Some rock band covered JLo and Ja Rule's "I'm Real (Murder Remix)". I thought it was pretty good

Gallon Drunk's version of the Bee Gees' "To Love Somebody" is a lesson on how to make a decent cover version (i.e., to completely flip a song on its head and make it your own).
As for others, as long as Orgy's despicable cover of New Order's "Blue Monday" doesn't appear on any given list, all is fine by me. :)

Placebo's cover of Boney M's "Daddy Cool" is also, erm, cool.

Foo Figters' take on Gary Numan's "Down In The Park" is also interesting, even if it just replaces the heavier synth parts with loud guitars, therefore not making any real detours from the original song.

I actually liked Orgy's "Blue Monday".

The cast of nu-metal bands that have released covers is beyond overwhelming, but here's a few recent (or, not so recent) ones:
Disturbed - Land of Confusion Disturbed - Shout 2000 Dope - Crazy Dope - You Spin Me Around (Like A Record) Marilyn Manson - Personal Jesus (I would consider Depeche Mode pop...) Marilyn Manson - Tainted Love Limp Bizkit - Faith
Also...
Snow Patrol - Crazy In Love Offspring - Next To You Used & My Chemical Romance - Under Pressure Pearl Jam - Last Kiss Pearl Jam - Soldier of Love
Just to name a few...

3) Pearl Jam - (Sittin' On) The Dock Of A Bay Good call. Some others that come to mind: GNR - Knockin' on Heaven's Door White Stripes - Jolene RHCP - Higher Ground Cake - I Will Survive Limp Bizkit's "Behind Blue Eyes" has to rank as one of my least favorites, of recent times anyway.
