Just like last year people would refer to We Belong Together as the summer song (or SUBG and HG) what would you refer to as this summers big song? Although it's not my favorite of the summer singles, I think it's obvious Promiscious was the biggest.

Male: Justin Timberlake - "SexyBack" Female: Nelly Furtado Featuring Timbaland - "Promiscuous"

i think SexyBack came out too late to be a 'summer' song really...Promiscuous was around and huge the whole time, so definitely that.

I think Promiscuous or Me & U.
Crazy, Over My Head, and Unfaithful were big too, but they dont exactly scream "summer song" to me. But then again, neither did WBT.

Hips Don't Lie. It will be remembered more than "Promiscuous" especially when Shakira performs it live.

That's a good thing. Don't need one song hogging the spotlight.

IMO "Hips Don't Lie" is too old to be a summer song...it lasted through the summer to some extent, but I first heard it in March, and its really all encompassing hit stage was in the spring

If I had to pick, definitely "Promiscuous". This summer was very uneventful music wise. Somethings going awry in the music industry. So many flops were released. I feel music is getting boring. Nothing sounds fresh anymore. It's an oversaturated market. Everyone and their momma is releasing something.

On the VMA's last night, they said "Move Along" defined the summer of '06 during the intro for AAR.

^^That statement is WRONG. That song was so dried up by the time summer rolled around. The video premiered in freakin JANUARY for crying out loud, lol.

"Crazy"
"Promiscuous"
"Hips Don't Lie"
"Over My Head (Cable Car)" (though the single made waves well before the smmer began, it defined itself especially over the summer, so I consider it a definitive summer hit)
"Dani California"
"Buttons"
"Black Horse & The Cherry Tree"

"Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley... Finally, after 25 posts, someone got it right. "Crazy" was big from the beginning to end of summer, dominated the most genres of music, was huge worldwide, and will be remembered far longer than most of the other songs this summer. A fairly close second and third, based on all of these criteria, are "Dani California" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira.

^ I will give the edge to Shakira as the second placer. But I actually agree with "Crazy".
