I wanted to put this topic in the Polling Booth, but figured there are an endless list of possibilities, and why not start here?
So many songs have been released this year that have been great, there have been many that I thought were at least tolerable or that I haven't heard, and then there were (as there always are) the CLUNKERS.
Which songs do you believe have been the worst songs of 2006, in any category - from alternative to rock to pop to urban to salsa to Spanish techno (my latest New Pornographers reference).
Here's my list, in no particular order (**only through October 1, because I'm sure there are still a few clunkers that I will LOATHE *ahem* Jessica Simpson *ahem*)
Alternative/Rock:
Hinder - Get Stoned - so what on earth does a song like this even mean, anyway? Hinder - Lips Of An Angel - he can't sing, it's horribly over the top and grating until the very end. *Honey, why you callin' me so late??* *Shudder* Gnarls Barkley - Crazy - overexposed CRAP. I'm done with his falsetto voice and their cheesy '80s alternative-wannabe style. Go home, Gnarls. She Wants Revenge - Tear You Apart - Oh, great. Another monotone-voiced, eyeliner wearing Interpol wannabe who dominates the alternative charts. This crap sucks. She Wants Revenge - Out Of Control - Ditto. Peeping Tom - Mojo - So the ex-Faith No More singer is still around trying to produce new material with new "groups"? "Epic" was just that, but that was it, buddy. Go home.
Pop:
Fergie - London Bridge (Oh Crap) - Oh Dear Lord. So when is Gwen filing the charges? Or does anyone in the pop industry really care anymore that songs are being ripped off? Eminem & Nate Dogg - Shake That - A lyric like "More ass than a toilet seat" should automatically qualify a song for worst of the year, even if it is musically orgasmic. Bowling For Soup - High School Never Ends - Guys, PLEASE Stop living in the stereotype. Jesse McCartney - Right Where You Want Me - I've never heard this song. ... But it's JESSE!!! Who's with me here? Rihanna - Unfaithful - I shudder everytime I see this industry-made Beyonce copy-cat actually try to sing this already awful chorus. Jessica Simpson - A Public Affair - I've heard it twice. I can't stand it and I can't stand this bitch.
Urban:
Ciara & Chamillionaire - Get Up Cherish - Do It To It Yung Joc - It's Goin' Down Chris Brown - Gimme That E-40 f. T-Pain & Who The Kell Knows Who Else - U And Dat D4L - Laffy Taffy
I'm honestly done trying to explain the awfulness of certain urban songs.
Any more?

I'll probably be coming up with another worst songs of the year list this year, and several of these are definitely showing up. These are just off the top of my head.
Pussycat Dolls - Stickwitu/Beep/Buttons: In ascending order of awfulness. How does such a disposable, unnecessary group churn out four big hits over a year-and-a-half? They have to be the nadir of pop music for this decade.
Kelly Clarkson - Walk Away: I didn't think it was possible, but she managed to release a single that was somehow worse than any of the four previous ones from her album. It's grating, contrived dance-pop. Not to mention the fact that she thinks her voice can carry any song when it really can't.
Nickelback - Far Away: I know they're a sore subject around here, but it's like the fourth or fifth time they've released this song, and it's the worst yet. Just an obviously pretentious love song, with Chad doing a pretty bad job at crooning.
Buckcherry - Crazy b**ch: Really, I'm not expecting every song to be enlightened or erudite, but if your chorus is "You're a crazy b**ch, but you f**k so good..." then that's precious seconds of my life that have been wasted. Is it really too much to ask to have lyrics that aren't so drunkenly desperate?
Also ones covered by jd: Both Hinder songs Fergie Jessica Simpson All the urban ones except for Ciara (which I haven't heard, and am not expecting to join the others).

I agree with your urban list pretty much but could add many more. On your pop list I agree with "London Bridge", "Shake That" and I'm with you on Jesse. However I strongly disagree on your opinion of Rihanna. Jessica's song is just ok and I haven't heard the Bowling For Soup song. "Sexyback" is my second least favourite pop song after "London Bridge". "Buttons", "Beep", and many others also sucked.
I strongly disagree with your listing of "Crazy" as one of the worst songs though.
Country music had some stinkers though and btw Country is my favourite genre so I hate when crap infiltrates it. "Brand New Girlfriend" by Steve Holy, "Yee Haw" by Jake Owens, "Summertime" by Kenny Chesney, "Swing" by Trace Adkins, "California Girls" by Gretchen Wilson" and more that I can't think of right now qualify.

Say Somethin' - Theres a reason why Mariah fought this as a single. The song is boring as hell and could probably be only enjoyed if you were high. Yo (Excuse Me Miss) - Boring and unmelodic Pullin' Me Back - Boring as hell. Far Away - Horrible music and lyrics Showstopper - No melody, bad production, dumb lyrics, not even a hot beat, this song has no reedeming qualities. Deja Vu - Dull beat with no melody When You're Mad - Bad production, melody, and lyrics that were probably written by a man who has never been with a woman Who Says You Can't Go Home - When did Bon Jovi become the next Shania? Jesus Take The Wheel - Doin' Too Much - Dull production and melody Stay With You - No real melody So What - Production is so boring and the music is bad too Single - Dull Monotonous chords with horrid melody It's Goin' Down - Dull Production with a monotonous beat I Know You See It - Even duller production with dumber lyrics Sorry - Dance Cheese! Get Together - Extra shrap dance cheese! Fresh Azimiz - Boring Who Knew - Boring Crash - A bunch of indiscriminate screeches does not make a song Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It - Boring Do It To It - Oh was good, but this is what happens when you try to recreate a song with a ripoff melody

The major ones that I can think of off the top of my head are Nelly Furtardo's "Promiscuous" and Kelly Clarkson's "Walk Away".

Laffy Taffy was 2006? It seems older.
It'll be alittle difficult to make a worst of list for the year. I did one for the last two years but this year, aside from a few songs, I didn't hear much that annoyed me or that I thought was bad... maybe because I didn't listen to the radio much. I'll keep this topic in mind when I make my list in December.

No list of worst songs of the year would be complete without a mention of Kevin Federline. His songs Popo Zao and Lose Control are laughably bad.

I forgot Love by Keisha Cole and L.O.V.E. by Ashlee Simpson. The latter might be one of the top 10 worst songs of all time.

Chain Hang Low- I feel like I'm watching some modern day PBS show.
I'll get more when I think of it.

Taylor Hicks, "Do I Make You Proud?" - No, Taylor, you give AMERICAN Idol a bad name. You are fugly and can't sing. Diana DeGarmo the best AI contestant ever, anyone? Love her. Kelly Clarkson, "Walk Away" - This song gets so damn annoying so damn fast. It's dull and boring. Any rap/urban/hip-hop song - They all sound the same and require 0% talent to perform. Justin Timberlake, "Sexyback" - Overplayed to death! It's awful, anyway! Listening to clips of the album on iTunes, they all sound the same! This song, and Justin "Mc Man Whore" Timberlake are awful. Janet Jackson's 2 singles of this year - Can this untalented slut go away already? I'm starting to hate her more than Michael. Fallout Boy, "A Little Less..." and "Dance, Dance" - Although DD was released in 2005, it was still big this year. "Sugar, We're Going Down" would have made it, but it was released too long ago. FOB is so damn annoying. P!ATD, "I Write Sins...." - I've about had it with all the way-too-long-titled emo songs of this & last year. They aren't creative and they are annoying to type. Plus, the leader singer CAN'T SING. And this song is way overrated. Chris Brown, "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)" - Chris always sounds too nasaly while singing, and this song is SO boring. Daniel Powter, "Bad Day" - Bad Day = bad song. Period. James Blunt, "You're Beautiful" - Umm......overrated. It's AWFUL! And I'm sure there is more, but to put it simply, the majority of music in 2006 sucked ass. Hell, PARIS HILTON is more enjoyable than most people who put out songs in '06. But hey, I like Paris's music

My top 10:
10) If you were quasi-famous for reasons other than music, and then you decided to dabble in music, it's likely you deserve to make this list.
- Paris Hilton - Ashlee Simpson - Hilary Duff - Kevin Federline
Those are just some of the names, but you get the idea. Gotta spread the hate a little, so I'm lumping them all in one spot. Don't quit your day jobs, folks... whatever they are.
9) Daniel Powter - "Bad Day"---- It's as if the producers of American Idol WANTED me to quit watching.
8) Hinder - "Lips of an Angel"---- It sounded so good in theory... mixing a bland post-post-post-grunge act with lyrics cheesier than most 80s power ballads. Okay, maybe not so good in theory after all, but c'mon, how bad could the idea possibly be? Oh, right.
7) Hoobastank - "If I Were You"---- If I were them, I wouldn't have released a ballad so inferior to their previous one.
6) Beyonce - "Deja Vu"---- I admit, I'm a little confused by the title. I don't recall ever having the feeling that Beyonce sucked so hard before this.
5) Jessica Simpson - "A Public Affair"---- Go ahead, fit as many hot chicks in one video as you want. A crappy song is still a crappy song.
4) Bo Bice - "The Real Thing"---- Wasn't this the 'rocker' from American Idol? Even Nick Lachey's songs have more bite than this.
3) Angels and Airwaves - "The Adventure"---- I'm usually a sucker for bands whose songs are described as anthemic, ambitious, dramatic, or grandiose. So I was optimistic about this band, even though I knew the lead singer was the Blink 182 dude with the annoying voice. What I should have realized was that all those adjectives were used by the band itself. Sure enough, the band didn't live up to their own hype. I heard the song for the first time, and after a looooong minute-and-a-half tease, the 'singing' finally comes in, and dude's voice was as annoying as ever. BONUS lame points for the "V" in the group's abbreviation: "AVA"... why don't you just call yourselves 'Angels VERSUS Airwaves' or something?
2) Rap---- Has there ever been a worse year for rap? To think, it was my favorite music genre as a kid in the 90s, but I can't think of the last hip-hop CD I bought and/or was really excited about. What happened?
1) Nickelback - "Rockstar"---- At this point, they've seen how easy it is to rocket up the charts simply by churning out copycats of their first smash, "How You Remind Me". Bored with that exercise, this is the obvious next step. I'm convinced this is their attempt to prove they can have a huge hit with the worst possible song imaginable...and it just might work! Three minutes of farting while reciting the alphabet would've been too predictable, so they settle for the dumbest possible lyrics to go with Chad's effortless gargling. I like silly songs, but this is too absurd for Weird Al, and without the quality that comes with his parodies. By now, it's impossible to laugh WITH Nickelback, only at them.

Nickelback - Far Away
This is one of the most annoying songs ever. It charted on my charts and now I am going to remove this immediately. What the heck was I on, man! Ish!
Fergie - London Bridge Go back to siinging woman. You suck! This is by far the worst song that I have ever heard! I hope this song falls like the "London Bridge"...down the charts and never returns!
Hinder - Lips Of An Angel
This is still #2 on my charts, but it's a bad song! It could reach number one. Does it make sense? No. Here's the breakdown. My charts are partially based on popularity and my personal enjoyment as well. It's a nice laid back song, at the same time the lyrics are senseless and the guy's voice is talentless.
Sean Paul - Give It Up To Me
Anything he does is plain annoying. I do not like the guy. Keyshia Cole can certainly do much better.
Shakira - Hips Don't Lie
She bugs me as well. This ruined the airwaves!
Webstar - Chicken Noodle Soup
This tells us where music is headed! What kinda dance is this? As far as I know it originated in Harlem. This soooo rated G, man. Keep it on Disney radio, please keep our other commercial stations free... of this rubbish!
that's it for now...
