How come we never find out how much an album sold...or do we? and I just don't know.. We only hear about it when its record breaking like when Coldplay's X&Y sold a lot and FS/LS I think. What I'd like to see is weekly RINGTONE sales and MUSIC VIDEO sales. Ringtone sales are massive in comparison to digital song sales. At least that's what I heard.

I thought I read somewhere that in 2007 iTunes sales may count towards Billboard/Soundscan charts.

They do count but the public just doesn't have visibility into the data breakdown. It's no different than other stores in that regard. We don't know how much each album sells at Walmart or Best Buy or any other music retailers, including Itunes.

So, for example, the 278,000 copies Akon sold this week include iTunes album downloads?
If so, I did not know that, and that is HORRID. I would think he would be close to 400,000 with iTunes downloads.

Yeah digital albums rarely sell more than 50,000 in a week for the top selling digital album. I know that Coldplay, JT, and JM all sold more than 60,000 in their first week digitally of their lastest album.

Oh and 278,000 is GREAT!!! I wish JoJo had sold that in her first week. Instead it has taken 5 weeks for her to sell that many albums.

Also, somehow they take single sales to equal album sales when doing certifications. Something along the lines of 50 singles = one album sale. I don't think that's the ratio, but its an example to show what I'm talking about.

I remember reading an article that as iTunes became more popular, the amount of money that an artist got from every song sold decreased... to about a dime I think. Maybe less.

I wish we'd get the statistics from Itunes. The only thing we get is which albums are the top selling. As of three days ago and still standing with the same rank:
Top 10 Albums:
1. Daughtry by Daughtry
2. Kingdom Come by Jay-Z
3. U218 singles
4. Wintersong - nSarah Mclachlan
5. The Blue Carpet Treatment - Snoop Dogg
6. The Devil and God are raging inside me - Brand New
7. 9 - Damien Rice
8. Doctor's Advocate - The Game
9. Konvicted - Akron
10. Continuun - John Mayer
