Are there any chances of NYC getting an Alt. station anytime soon?

No. The whole absence of an Alt station in the city that's perhaps the Alt-rock capital of the country really bites.
Hopefully K-Rock gets AWFUL ratings so they'll tweak their playlist in the right direction.

K-Rock's ratings actually went up for Spring 2005 - from 3.1 to 3.4. Of course, I don't know what the parameters are for the spring quarter, and thus don't know exactly where the format change occurred during the quarter. So I guess we'll wait for the summer quarter ratings to see what the real effect is.

I certainly feel bad for you New Yorkers. I don't understand how the #1 market in the country doesn't have an Alternative station. The old K-Rock was a great station from what I remember the many times I've visited the area.

So I guess we'll wait for the summer quarter ratings to see what the real effect is. I don't think we have to wait. Arbitron says the Spring 2005 rating are for March 31 to June 22 and 100000watts says the format change was on April 4, so the Spring 2005 ratings were almost completely for the new format. Still, it isn't enough of a change relative to WXRK's normal rating range to call it a good or bad format change. Also, a year ago in Spring 2004, WXRK was 0.9 ahead of Classic Rock WAXQ and now WXRK is 0.1 behind WAXQ.

I've put on the local alt/rock station (I think it is K-Rock) and I didn't like it much. It just played too much oldies, and I'm WAY more familiar with the new music.
The tri-state area needs it BADLY.

Personally, I like the new format better, and would be happy if I lived in the City. But being in Connecticut, we already have two rock stations (WPLR, WRKI), which are as good, if not better than K Rock. It was nice to have K Rock around to hear the new alternative tracks that I can't get here.

You can get the Jersey Shore's rock station, G-Rock, at either 98.5 or 106.3 on the radio if you have decent radio tuning.

Unfortunately 105.5 is basically the same as the new K-Rock, and I can't pick 92.7 up at all. Thanks for the help though

Maybe, I don't really know. By the way, KROCK just played Bon Jovi's new song, futher signaling its downfall.

Well they're not trying to be alternative, so why not go all the way and play Bon Jovi? And G Rock is now streaming, for those of you outside of NJ who want to hear what (IMHO) an Alternative station should sound like.
