WCBS/FM LAUNCHES 101.1 WCBS-FM HD2 NEW YORK'S FIRST CONTINUOUSLY PROGRAMMED HD RADIO MULTICAST CHANNEL
Chad Brown, Vice President and General Manager of 101.1 JACK-FM and WCBS-FM.COM announced today the launch of 101.1 WCBS-FM HD2, New York's first continuously programmed HD Radio multicast channel by a commercial broadcaster on Tuesday, December 6. The digital broadcast will feature the Greatest Hits of All Time with a comprehensive play list spanning the 1950's through the 1980's. The broadcast will also include song, title and artist information as text and displayed on HD Radio capable receivers.
"Launching this new HD capability is very exciting," said Brown. "We committed to bring back this great oldies station that generations grew up with in a new and enhanced way. We can now truly say that 101.1 WCBS-FM HD2 is on the cutting edge of radio -- digitally! This is a perfect compliment to the WCBS-FM.COM web stream and offers our listeners the capability to hear their favorite hits in superior, crystal-clear sound quality."
101.1 WCBS-FM HD2 will be programmed by Jeff Mazzei, long time Music Director of WCBS-FM and WCBS-FM.COM
HD Radio technology transmits digital audio and data alongside existing AM and FM analog signals, allowing listeners with HD Radio compatible receivers to enjoy crystal-clear digital sound and reception: AM sounds like FM; and FM sounds like a CD. The technology also provides listeners a variety of desired information such as song titles, artist names, traffic updates, weather forecasts, sports scores, and more.
