Hope it's true. They're basically a Rhythmic station that plays Kelly and Fallout Boy.

This station NEVER should have been launched in the first place in a city with a powerhouse Urban Station and an equally nationally-respected CHR/Rhythmic powerhouse (WGCI & WBBM-FM, respectively).
Whoever launched KZQZ in San Francisco about 9-10 years ago made the same mistake in trying to put a dent in either KMEL or KYLD, and KZQZ, if memory serves, barely lasted for more than three years.
Another clueless blunder by those dweebs at Clear Channel.

KZQZ did fine at first. It was Bonneville meddling and the station dropping dance music (in San Francisco for crying out loud!) that killed it.
WKSC just never found itself. They were confused from the launch, one of the most generic sounding top 40's in one of America's least generic markets.

What did Bonneville do from a 'meddling' standpoint' which evbentually led to KZQZ's demise?

They leaned it more and more towards Hot AC (when SF already had KLLC and KIOI) until there was little of the pop/dance music that the station had started out with. Bonneville is a very conservative company; they don't allow their stations to play anything with curse words or the vast majority of rap. They wouldn't even allow their stations to play Meredith Brooks's "Bitch". As CHR grew more rhythmic in the late 90's, Bonneville pushed KZQZ the exact opposite way.

Mega 1035???
There used to be a 'Jammin' Oldies' station on that frequency in Chicago, but they can't be going back to THAT format, can they?

No, if they switch, they'd be going to Clear Channel's "Latino And Proud" Hispanic Urban format, with a heavy focus on Reggaeton, like Houston's Mega 101.
