I would've thought that urban would have much higher shares than what's being shown.

California, the most populated state, is missing Urban stations except for KKBT Los Angeles which isn't that popular. The west in general doesn't have too many Urban stations. There are also markets in the southeast that have one or more CHR-Rhythmic stations but no Urban stations like Greensboro-Winston Salem-High Point, Orlando, and Birmingham. Even Memphis, a Top 50 market dominated by CHR-Rhythmic/Urban/Urban AC/Urban Oldies/Gospel, has two CHR-Rhythmic stations and one Urban station.

I've listened to the Memphis and Birmingham "rhythmic" stations and I'm not convinced that they're anything other than urban. Just because they call themselves rhythmic doesn't mean they are. They only do that to make themselves more attractive to advertisers who otherwise wouldn't buy on urban stations.

That may be true but all I'm concerned with in this topic is how the stations are classified for the national ratings.

Well, R&R classifies the station in Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point as CHR/Rhythmic, but it's really an Urban station... its playlist has always followed the Urban chart much moreso than the Rhythmic one.

KKBT isn't what it was ratings-wise since the beancounters decided to syndicate Steve Harvey's morning show.
Before that happened, Harvey was EASILY the most-listened to English-language personality in all of LA Radio, and he consistently beat Rick Dees, Howard Stern, Mark & Brian, Kevin & Bean and everybody else because, as ALL radio stations should be, his show was VERY focused on LOCAL issues.
Syndication also took a bite out of Rick Dees's numbers, but KKBT hasn't been the same since the beancounters took over, and Harvey's eventual departure and replacement by ex-NBA player John Salley.

Are you talking about WJMH or WGBT? Also, golden eagle boy in Memphis were you talking about KXHT, WMPW, or both?

I've only heard WMPW once, but from what I've heard, they sounded urban too.
