Who is looking forward to Jennifer Peña's new album? I know I am! Her new CD, titled "SEDUCCIÓN" (very India-like), will be CALIENTE! It's going to be released on May 18, 2004, according to VH1.
After her triumphant win at the Premios Lo Nuestro, she will sell bucketloads! I wouldn't be surprised if she surpasses the 2 million (or 200k) that she sold in Latin America with her debut Univision album. Her previous albums with Selena's dad as her overseer didn't sell too well.
Look out for her new single coming soon to Pulse Music! Her latest music video to her current smash, "A Fuego Lento," is #17 on La Cartelera Pepsi. Tune in next weekend to watch it! I have not seen it yet.

HOT album cover!Interview (from her official MB):From a young Tejano Superstar to a Latin explosion, Jennifer Pena is taking the Latin Pop world by storm. Jennifer has gone beyond the comparisons to the late Selena, and made a name for herself through out the U.S and Latin America. Now at 20 years old Jennifer has garnered tremendous amount of recognition and success with her 2002 release “Libre”. The Album allowed Jennifer to go beyond her Tejano and Cumbia beats and express her vocal ability in the Spanish Pop and Salsa markets. “Libre” sold over 300,000 records and was nominated for many prestiges awards, such as a Grammy and Latin Billboard. Jennifer is currently recording a new album, which is to be released in March and sure to be yet another success. On March 14, 2004 Jennifer will perform at the Houston Live stock Show and Rodeo. The Houston Rodeo attracts more then 50,000 people a night. This is sure to be Jennifer’s biggest performance to date. Somos caught up with Jennifer, and she expressed to us her opinions on privacy, her new album and her excitement on performing at the Houston Rodeo. Somos: It’s been over a year since your last album “Libre”, have u begun recording a new album? Jennifer: “Yes I have. I started recording in December. We have to record all the versions to the songs, and we’re hoping for a March Release.” Somos: You worked with well known producers Rudy Perez and Kike Santander on “Libre”. Who do u hope to or are working with on your next album? Jennifer: “I am working with Rudy, and I would love to work with Kike again. As a matter a fact I probably will work with Kike, other then that, I’m not sure. The rest will be surprises. Sorpresas para la gente!” Somos: Are you doing any writing on this Album? Jennifer: “No. It was a major goal of mine, and I haven’t given it up. I think anybody who has ever written a song will agree with me on that, you need time alone to write a song. I difinantly have the experiences to write about, but I don’t have much time alone, and when I do I’m catching up on my rest.” Somos: “Libre” sold over 300,000 records. How does that success make you feel? Jennifer: “It’s definitely an awesome feeling! When I received the plaque I was like, ‘what’s this for?’ I looked at it, and I was like ‘WOW! 300, 000 is almost half a million!’ It’s definantly a huge honor and accomplishment for any artists. I’m very excited, proud and thankful to all my fans.” Somos: You promoted Libre all over Latin America. Do you find fans act differently in each Country? Jennifer: “That’s a hard one. Actually they’re all pretty excited the first time I go. I can say everyone acted really loud, excited and crazy the first time I went to Puerto Rico, South and Central America. I haven’t been back to any of them other than Mexico. All I can say is that everyone has been really good to me, and I’m really appreciative.” Somos: With the exception of a few rumors on who you’re dating, you have managed to keep your personal life out of the tabloids. How and why do u find this important? Jennifer: “I find it important for so many reasons. One has to have their personal life and privacy. As much as I am real in front of my fans, there is a side of me that people can’t know. Everybody has their little wild side, and of course sometimes I accidentally let it out! Honestly I want people to respect me for my music, voice and talent, and not for whom I’m dating, how I dress, or for anything else that’s going on in my personal life.” Somos: Many say once you become famous you lose your right to a private life. What are your thoughts on that? Jennifer: “I don’t think anyone should have to give up their life just to do what they love to do. Every single person in this world has a right to a personal life. That’s why God put us on this world, to live our lives and not for people to run our lives. God gave us free will, so we can make our own choices.” Somos: You will be performing at the 2004 Houston Rodeo, which may be your biggest performance yet. Do you have anything special planned for this show? Jennifer: “It will be my biggest performance, since I performed for the Selena Tribute. I’m very excited, and also very nervous about it in many ways. I’m sure I won’t be nervous that day, just ‘puro excited!’ I’m looking forward to see what we can come up with for the fans of Houston, something new and fresh production wise. Everyone has to go!” Somos: You’ve been singing professionally for 9 years. How do you feel you have grown as an artist? Jennifer: “I learned everything I know about music from when I first started recording my first album. All my professionalism came from those beginning years. I grew a lot as an artist and performer. My maturity and professionalism also came from just growing as a woman and being here one more year. These 9 years I have changed for the better. I have become a more spiritual person, more thankful, and grateful. I have come to a point where I’m just like; WOW this is an awesome life! I’m so appreciative for it and I’m going to do everything I can to keep it because it can go away at anytime.” Somos: Who inspires you? Jennifer: “Everybody! I’m inspired in so many different ways, by so many different people. Bette Midler inspired me to begin singing and Selena inspired me to sing in Spanish. Everyone who’s out there right now inspires me. Beyonce, Ashanti, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears they’re all out there kicking but, and the people are out there supporting them and love them, that’s called for admiration and respect. Even the people who are out there shopping their demos to record labels I respect them, admire them, and they inspire me.” Somos: Any last words to your fans? Jennifer: Thanks guys! I love ya’ll! The new single is called "Vivo y Muero en tu Piel," which translates into "I Live And Die In Your Skin."I love the title! It sounds 'muy...sensual!' (as Jaci would say it!) Below is an article about the filming of her new music video. "And I'm so excited, I just can't hide it!" Go Jenn! www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/entertainment/music/7876571.htmSinger heats up ice palaceRising Tejano singer Jennifer Peña uses the frosty backdrop while recording her new music video. BY BAO ONG Pioneer Press It was warmer than last week's cold spell at the Winter Carnival ice palace Wednesday, but still a dramatic change for a rising Latina singer from Texas. With the palace for a backdrop, Jennifer Peña sang and danced outdoors during a taping session for her music video, "Seduccion." She was dressed all in white in tight leather pants, an open fur coat and a sweater that revealed her jewelry-adorned navel. "You can't bundle singers up. You gotta see them," said Vaughn Jaures Smith, who is directing and producing the music video for Univision Records. "She's not getting too cold anyways. She's doing awesome. She's a very focused person." The 20-year-old Corpus Christi, Texas, native spent the day in St. Paul taping at the ice palace site during the day and then surrounding herself with ice sculptures at Rice Park in the evening. A crew of about 30 people with two trailers were on hand while Peña sang two versions of "Vivo y Muero en tu Piel," which literally translates to "Live and Die in Your Skin." Lupe de la Cruz, vice president of marketing for the Spanish-language media company Univision, first saw the Winter Carnival's ice sculptures about three years ago during a visit and got the idea to film a winter-themed video, Smith said. "We thought it would be something different for the Hispanic community," said Smith about producing a video amid ice and snow. It just took a matter of finding the right person and time, he said. It doesn't really matter to Peña where she performs. In a 1995 debut at the Houston Astrodome, she sang to nearly 30,000 spectators in a tribute to her hero, Tejano music star Selena, who was gunned down in 1995 in Peña's hometown by the former head of the Selena fan club. Peña has been compared to Selena and finds it flattering, but the two singers are different people, her producers said. Peña used to work with Q Productions, a promotion company run by Selena's father. At 13, she released her first album, "Dulzura." Since then, Peña has made an impact, receiving a 2003 Grammy nomination for "Best Regional Mexican Performance." In 2002, she performed a song that Univision used as its official World Cup theme, and Smith estimates that more than 1 billion people listened to Peña's performance. Her next album, also called "Seduccion," is expected to come out in May. To make Wednesday's taping possible on one week's notice, Smith worked with Matt Reinartz, a special events coordinator for St. Paul, to overcome many hurdles. After receiving permission from Winter Carnival officials and negotiating an affordable fee to use the palace site, they had to work out the logistics. "We want to make St. Paul a destination for videos and any other projects," said Reinartz. "When they find out it's easy to work here, they'll spread the word." Smith said he wanted to work on this project to bring diversity and attention to the Latino population and its presence in St. Paul. "This project signifies my first effort at doing asuccessful international project in St. Paul like none Minnesota has ever been exposed to."

This topic has made me willing to listen to her upcoming single without knowing Spanish. Hispanics start singing at a young age.

www.jenpenaonline.com/mp3/vivo_y_muero_en_tu_piel.htmThat's probably the "balada" version. There is also a live video of Jennifer performing the "cumbia" version. It's very low quality, but it sounds better than the "balada." It's nice and peppy. I've noticed that most Spanish albums have multiple versions of the same song on them: balada, pop, cumbia, and salsa versions. It never seems repetitive either.

Jennifer got into a fight with the members of K-1! It's all true. Her aunt confirmed it on her official MB. :o The guys from K-1 accused Obie Bermudez (another Latin singer) of stealing one of their neck chains, so they got into a fight. And Jennifer tried to break them up, and got hit in the process. :( www.univision.com/content/content.jhtml;jsessionid=0O1F0HPWZOAYUCWIAANSFEYKZAAB2IWC?cid=377984Luckily Jennifer wasn't hurt badly enough to have to go the hospital. Obie was. It was a serious fight. Obie was "horribly outnumbered," according to Jenn's aunt. (8:1) The poor man's "Escandalo TV," "El Gordo Y La Flaca," supposedly tried to make it sound funny when they talked about it on their show, but it really wasn't at all. All of this happened on Cinco de Mayo. :(

El Gordo Y La Flaca made fun of the fight again. I was so upset while watching it yesterday. They had some guy dressed as "Jennifer" and getting beaten up in the elevator of a hotel. Hella rude. See you there with bells on! Seriously, you should come along. :) Why she has to release her album (and have the online chat) the day before my finals is beyond me... She's going to hurt my grade, cuz I refuse to wait to buy her album.

Did Obie really steal the neck chain?! :o Are they expensive or something? NO! He did not. But it was expensive. I think the K-1 member had lost his chain, so he suspected that Obie had stolen it. Or Obie had picked it up in the elevator? I'm not sure what Jennifer's "tia" said, because the administrator deleted all posts about the incident from her message board. Bad idea, imo. Now curious people can't find the truth on her MB, and they'll believe the lies being spread by people like El Gordo or, maybe, La Flaca.

AMAZING CD!
The online chat was good, but Jennifer wasn't given any of my questions. It was cool, because it was a live video chat! So we could see Jennifer responding to the questions, which were transcribed into the chat room.
I even told Jennifer "Thanks for the Doritos!" I hope she got to read that message!

WOW! Jennifer will be on the COVER of Billboard Magazine this week, a la Ashley Ballard in 2001! (Left, second from top) Go Jenn! Her album is incredible. It's so amazing, I put on the CD to fall asleep at my grandparents house today! (I actually brought the CD to school so I could have it when I went to their house after school! I can't stop listening to it!!!) My favorite new song is currently "Hasta El Fin Del Mundo," which is more than likely the next single. Supposedly Jennifer has a lock on #1 Hot Latin Tracks this week. We'll find out tomorrow! GO JENN!
