I'm not latino, but actually I'm enjoying these new formats. I think its something cool and new on the radio lately, and even though Clear Channel is a piece of s**t, Mega 101 in Houston is sounding pretty good. I love how they flip from like Shakira to Don Omar. They have enough of an audience for a whole station playing different kinds of latino Pop. Fresh for the radio, and I think it might be good for these markets.
Reggaeton is awesome, and I love the sound. It looks like a replacement for trance in America, and its growing really fast as well. In Dallas, they have Casa 106.7, which is sort of Hurban. They play a mix of reggaeton with hiphop. I hope they turn it into something like Mega, because its getting kind of redundant.
Since hiphop itself is getting redundant, many younger ppl who are exposed to all types of races here in America want something new, and I have a feeling the Hurban/latin pop are the stations they will go to, not only the latinos. As Clear Channel keeps converting stations to this new format, many will realize how fresh it sounds, and add it to their presets. Its only a matter of time. Good move for America as a country. This stuff deserves to be mainstream. Its a lot better than most hiphop, and ppl should be willing to accept it.

I don't like it too much, sorry. I've liked quite a few reggaeton remixes, though.

Daddy is actually the hottest artist, don't forger last year was Tego,if you take time and check the website :http://www.blinblineo.net/video.htm you gonna find a variety of style. I've been listen artist for other countries like Panama and Honduras and they are awesome styles too. the most people liked are "reggaeton perreo" with strong sexuality rhythm, isn't?

Who cares what they are talkin about. I don't understand Spanish fully myself, so it doesn't matter much to me anyway. The beats might all be similar, but if it gets you moving, especially in the clubs, that's all that matters. Same with Salsa, Merengue, and Bachata lovers. Most of the people like that stuff cuz it makes them move.
Since I'm not latino and lived in America most of my life, I'm still just being introduced to this music rite now anyway. I'm really sick of hiphop, so being latino and listening to this stuff often might make you sick of it a lot easier. Hopefully I don't get sick of it, cuz whatever's catchy usually stays with me forever.

You are right,no matter if you don't understand the lenguaje, the music is universal,if you feel the rhythm, who's care what they are talkin' about...I've been dancin' at club O-zone "Dragostea Din Tei" I don't have idea what they said. Keep Dancing Reggaeton Music!!!

Who cares what they are talkin about. That's a problem with people who know what they're saying, because what they're saying is vulgar. I know what you mean, though. Raggaeton is just getting played out in a lot of Latin markets. I think it's good in small doses, to provide a break from all of Juanes's latest overplayed singles (lol), but now it seems like I hear "Gasolina" and "Oye Mi Canto" after every other commercial break. Raggaeton was really new and innovative to me last year, when all I heard it on were remixes of Olga Tanon's "Cuando Tu No Estas" and Roselyn Sanchez's "Amor Amor" f/ Tego.

Totally agree, I understand what they are saying that's what I don't like it, but sometimes they do very very good remixes like "Cuando Tu No Estas" or "Yeah" that make me listen to reggaeton again, I'm really glad Daddy Yankee is not trying to be the next Don Omar talking about drugs and stuff, that's why I bought his cd

Hardcore reggaeton though is sometimes too much for me. I kind of like the more mellow reggaeton beats.
When its mixed with like Bachata (Pobre Diabla by Don Omar) or Salsa (Lo Que Paso Paso by Daddy Yankee or Gozando Vivire by Fulanito). Salsaton and Bachaton (I think that's what they call it), I think are the best forms of reggaeton.
I also don't mind the reggaeton hiphop mixes either. Yeah is also one of my faves.
btw, LuisRo, I heard on Mega 101 in Houston that JLo is very interested in this reggaeton explosion and is collaborating with Don Omar for a reggaeton remix of either one of her songs off Rebirth, or for an original new track on Don Omar's new album, Myself, which doesn't have a release date yet. If I find out more, I'll put it in this thread. :)

For those of you who love to dance or are into a different form of music such as reggaeton, then I suggest you tune into the network mun2 on March 20, 2005 at 8 p.m./ 7 p.m. central. The program is “The Roof” which will be airing a special titled, “The Roof on the Road: Carnival Party Miami”, since the program is returning to its roots in Miami. Musical performances scheduled to appear on the program are Don Omar, who is considered as a cross over artist of reggaeton; reggaeton duo Guanabanas; urban Latino artist Fito Blanko; legends of the urban Latin field, Fulanito; bachata band Toque D’Keda; breakthrough bachata artist, originating from Boston, Domenic Marte; Kinito Mendez, who is recognized as a Dominican meringue star; the writer and music producer Noriega; and Baby Rasta. As for local performers, “The Roof” will feature DJ Mingo y Laria, who currently are dominating Miami’s music scene. The special will be hosted by Melanie, Frankie Needles, IOP and Jessie.

Z100 has put two reggaeton songs in Power rotation in less than a wk: Gasolina and Dale Don Dale by Don Omar. This is a really big deal for reggaeton in America, and I think Z is trying to push it to mainstream.
I'm thinking this is because of competition from a new reggaeton station in NY, but I'm not completely sure if its on air yet. I heard it was supposed to start this month. Anyone have any info on the Z100 adds, or this new station? Also, any info on Don's new cd? I'm thinking Dale might be the first single from his American debut and may go for adds soon...

I love the reggaeton beats. Too bad I don't know any Spanish, which means I have no clue as to what they are singing.

I like the hurban station in NYC. I can tolerate it better than the one in SF because NYC also has a Latin pop station.

Doesn't NYC and SF have those new Hurban "La Kalle" stations? They are poppin up all over the country, but I think both cities have them. Here in Dallas, they just started "La Kalle" in June, and I love it. They play reggaeton, bachata, latin rock, and latin hiphop. Its pretty cool.

Yep....but I meant I like NYC's more, because NYC ALSO has a pop station. Now SF just has the hurban station, so the station pisses me off. But it's tyte here. Today they played a reggaeton version of Jennifer Pena's latest single! I was hella happy and shocked.
