I'm pretty sure the best selling Spanish album in recent years is Barrio Fino. I don't think there have been any albums that have sold a million plus this century.

DELL sold 900k and it didn't have a #1 single for 21 weeks? For such a big hit it should've been around a million by now

Fijacion Oral was released on June 6th and has only had two singles both of which are still on the charts. DELL had 5 singles and a tour and has been out since 1998. I am sure that Fijacion Oral will easily out sell DELL given some more time. Also, Daddy Yankee's album has taken a 1 year+ to sell its 854K copies.

also songs has nothing to do with album sales...or check Son by four album...im sure its not even close to 600.000 copies...and they had the record with 21 weeks #1 :) or another example...check Ciara in the Billboard or Rihana.

You can't compare Shakira to Ciara, Rihanna or anyone out there. Shakira's "debut" english album sold 3.3 million copies so yeah.... She's a MEGA star and regardless of what you all say I still believe that 700k is not good when you have had a #1 song for 21 weeks. That's like more than 5 months? Daddy Yankee has sold 854k with no such hit like La Tortura and he was/is a nobody....

Daddy Yankee has sold 854k with no such hit like La Tortura and he was/is a nobody.... And Daddy Yankee took over 1 YEAR to sell 854k and Shakira has had less than 1/2 that time and she has sold 658K. So, she is less than 200K behind DY in 5 mos. That's impressive! And Shakira's Laundry Service album that sold 3.3mm copies was in ENGLISH and it didn't sell that many copies in 6 mos. either. Shakira's album has been the #1 Spanish album since it was released for all but 2 weeks. Spanish albums in the U.S. do not sell that much period regardless of who the artist is. Juanes has had 3 #1 hits that have spent 25 weeks at #1 combined and he's sold less than 400K in one year. Maybe that comparison will help you understand why Shakira's sales have been impressive.

In my opinion both Shakira's and Daddy Yankee's sales are impressive.

Besides DELL sold 900K in the 90's when there were no illegal downloads or cd burners. Selling 1 million now is the same as selling 5 million in the mid 90's.

Even though they are both latin artists, Daddy Yankee is NOT Shakira. They are in two totally diff ballparks. The only similarity is that La Tortura used a reggaeton beat in its chorus. The producer just used reggaeton's new-found success all over the world as a basis for Tortura's popularity. DY's music is still incomparable though.
Reggaeton and DY is literally brand-new to America, and Hispanic audiences in America as well (especially the majority, Mexicans, which eventually became the major consumers of Barrio Fino in the US).
Shakira is a well-known artist in America for yrs, Anglos and Hispanics of all cultures. I don't see how this comparison came about. The sales are both impressive in the US for their own styles and sounds.
