Alaska Y Dinarama was one of the most popular bands from Spain in the 80s. The extravagant female singer, Alaska, became a huge personality in Spain and Latin America. By the end of the 80s, Alaska Y Dinarama started moving away from pop music and evolving more into dance/techno. In the 90s, Alaska (plus one of the two guys who were Dinarama) created Fangoria. Alaska Y Dinarama was no more. Myself being a huge fan of Alaska, lost track of her in the 90s until last year that I "discovered" and realized that Alaska never stopped making music all this time. I cought up and bought all the CDs I had missed. These days they make really cool dance techno music. Not poppy dance, but a bit more alternative, darker and sometimes controversial. It's not freaky fast no-voice techno though. It keeps the melodic body of the song, great beats, Alaska's great deep voice, and insteresting lyrics. Alaska has always been very outspoken, smart and very liberal. These days they are recording their next CD. I can't wait to hear this!! Did anybody here grow up in Latin American or Spain, or currently live there, and know about these bands.

So they are Fangoria? Lol, when I saw a performance of them on a tv show, I thought it was suppose to be a joke. The singer looks looks and sounds like a man. But the song they performed was pretty good.

Ha, ha! Yes. She has a very deep voice and if you only listen to her songs, you may think it's a guy singing. Did she have red hair? If yes, then I think it was them. Although, you could've easily seen a performance by a trasvesti of a Fangoria song. They have a big gay following. So if she looked like a man, then it might've not been her. She does look like a woman, an extravagant colorful sexy woman though. :)

I don't really know a whole lot about their music, except their old stuff from the 80's. I do think Thalia and Moenia did an awesome job with their respective covers of "a quien le importa?" and "ni tu ni nadie".
They have the essence of the original, but sound a lot fresher and modern. And no...I don't really like her voice.
"It's a MAN baby..." ;)
