This is mainly a question for those who still listen to albums all the way through. Do you prefer the closing song to be a beautiful happy or sad ballad, or do you prefer the album end on an upbeat, fun note? Or do you just not care?
I prefer the happier ballads to end an album, personally..with an upbeat, fun song kicking off the album. Like with Avril Lavigne's The Best Damn Thing, it starts out really upbeat with "Girlfriend" and ends with a positive ballad, "Keep Holding On".

I like happy ballads... The ones that make you sigh after and then say, "Damn, that was a good album..."

I prefer a fun, upbeat song. It brings great closure and a perfect sense of finality to an album, especially if it's great.

I don't care, as long as it's good.

It depends on the album. Some albums are not meant to be all feel goody and happy. So...a happy sunshine song at the end would be bad.

I hate albums that end in a hidden track. I also hate acapella or instrumental endings. Other than that, I'm fine with anything as long as its good.

It depends on the album. Some albums are not meant to be all feel goody and happy. So...a happy sunshine song at the end would be bad. Yeah, it depends on the album. Although Bonnie McKee's album is like - 11 sad midtempo songs or ballads and then the last one is a random tongue-in-cheek upbeat song and, well, it works. I think when there are many ballads on the album, it's fun to end it with an upbeat song.

I love Chivas which is the ending hidden track for Kelly Clarkson's CD My December!
I don't really care one way or another, I listen to albums all the way through the first time I buy them and the ending song CAN determine my overall impression of the album, esp if it ends with a good song!

I prefer a sad ballad that just tug at the heartstrings, e.g. Avril's "Slipped Away" or Mariah's "Outside".

Kelly did it best with "Irvine". ("Chivas" is great, too.)

I don't like albums that don't sound finished (Green Day's "American Idiot"...is that one actually done?). I don't care what it is as long as it makes the album feel "finished". Nickelback does a fine job with that, "Rockstar" and "See You At The Show" both sound like "finishing" songs.

Sad ballads about realism, i.e. All Good Things (Come To An End).

A song that finishes off the whole theme of the album (i.e. "I Found Myself" from The Evolution.)

I like My December's closer, Chivas. After hearing the depressing album, Chivas lifts you up and puts you in a good mood.
