One of the worst Christmas albums ever. They butchered the poor songs to death. The only thing I can tolerate is their reworking of "This Christmas".

I agree with everyone who dissed the album.ย I'm glad to see I'm not alone in really disliking it.ย I thought I was daft when I saw some people @ my Ashanti forum praise it as the best ever.

LOL at the Amazon.com review:
Chilly, forced, and overdone, this mixed bag of modern classics, tarted-up traditional carols, and trio of tunes penned by Beyonce Knowles doesn't conjure a single warm and fuzzy image of chestnuts roasting on an open fire or Jack Frost nipping at your nose. Rather, it's just another forum to showcase the band's Gucci bag of vocal gymnastics and crass materialism. The Texas trio takes seasonal classics like Irving Berlin's "White Christmas," "Silent Night," and "Little Drummer Boy" and embellishes them with their own trills and off-kilter harmonies, obscuring the songs' simple beauty. "On the eighth day of Christmas, my baby gave to me a pair of Chloe shades and a diamond belly ring," brags Knowles in the title song, a takeoff on the "12 Days of Christmas," without ever explaining why they lopped off four days. The band is shamelessly self-indulgent throughout the dozen songs found here, taking untold liberties, like renaming "Carol of the Bells" "Opera Bells" and recasting "Silver Bells" as "Platinum Bells" to reflect their multiplatinum status. But the low point of the record is when Destiny's Child hawk their Hasbro-manufactured dolls in the intro of "Platinum Bells": "Ladies, remember long ago we asked Santa to give us Christmas dolls? This year the dolls are you and me under the tree." Humbug. --Jaan Uhelszki

It was altogether a pretty bad album but there were a few good tracks. And I like the way they renamed "Carol Of The Bells"

I liked the album. Its a cool christmas album. I like that they put their own style on the songs and didnt just do some tired rendidtion of christmas carols with a big band like Jessica simpson did. BARF!

The only Destinys Child CD I just can't listen to. 8 Days of Christmas is just terrible. I'm all for original Christmas songs, but damn, they could change the lyrics a bit and this would be an album-track for a regular album.

Entertainment Weekly (11/30/01, p.89) - "...Silky originals...and a cornucopia of chestnuts, all vocally arranged to within an inch of their lives..." - Rating: B+

Entertainment Weekly (11/30/01, p.89) - "...Silky originals...and a cornucopia of chestnuts, all vocally arranged to within an inch of their lives..." - Rating: B+ Rolling Stone: They won fans and influenced people with their dynamic, off-kilter vocal calisthenics, glam girl beauty, and bootylicious curves, but somewhere between their ever-present strong woman anthems, "Independent Women, Pt. 1" and "Survivor," Destiny's Child began to grate on the collective nerves of radio listeners everywhere. With four albums under their Gucci belts in just five years, a sign that DC's recently announced "break" is much needed is their inexplicably sub-par holiday disc, 8 Days of Christmas, which sounds as if it were halfheartedly thrown together over a long weekend. Over-singing, off-key over cookie-cutter tracks, Beyonce, Kelly, and Michelle butcher holiday classics such as "White Christmas" and the stocking overstuffed "A DC Christmas Medley" of "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town/Jingle Bells/Frosty the Snowman/Have a Holly Jolly Christmas/Deck the Halls/Here Comes Santa Claus." And the girls don't shine any brighter on Beyonce-penned originals such as the insipid title track, on which Queen B brags, "On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me the keys to a CLK Mercedes." No wonder DC shortened their holiday season by four days -- their beaus would've been flat broke by the twelfth day. The disc's only saving grace is the catchy reworking of Donny Hathaway's "This Christmas." If you must have DC under your 2001 Christmas tree, pick up the trio's Hasbro dolls instead. They're just as lifelike as 8 Days of Christmas, but way less irritating.

God, I heard this in the store today. I didn't think it was possible to f*** up Jingle Bells, but if there is anyone who could do it, it's Destiny's Child. And they certainly did that. They basically just take all those traditional christmas songs, extract every single syllable, stretch each and every one of them all the way across their entire vocal range, call it good singing, and laugh all the way to the bank. I've heard some bad songs before, but this is the first time a song literally made me want to physically destroy any fragile objects that I could possibly find, since hearing the first Kidz Bopz CD.

I can't believe the hate on this, I don't see what is so bad about the album.
Is it because it doesn't sound so traditional? I think that's partly why I like it.
I really enjoy it a lot. I listen to the album every Christmas. Opera of the Bells is awesome, I love their harmonizing on it. It is probably their best vocals out of any song they ever did.

The title track is fun fluff. I loved how they turned Kelly's vocals right down into the mix and gave her some nonsense tongue twister s**t to sing.

I was never aware of the amount of hate this album gets ๐ The title track, Winter Paradise, the Medley and Carol of the Bells are Christmas staples for me.
