Guys-- Will there be a Billboard music awards this December like usual? There is nothing posted on their site about it. Usually it is the first tuesday of every december, since the billboard year ends the second week of november.
I know they got bad ratings last year, and there were rumors of it being cancelled- but I hope that is not true. I look forward to the stupid show every year....lol If the show is cancelled, do they still mail the awards to the artists?
Does anyone know anything? Thanx!

The Billboard Awards Show is usually shown on FOX. There is a rumor that it has been cancelled but I haven't found an article stating that it has.
If anyone has read an article that it has been cancelled, please put the link here (and Wikipedia doesn't count...LOL!).

I hope they don't cancel the Billboard Music Awards. It is one award show based on pure stats so I like it for that.

I emailed my contact at Bllboard.
He says he doesn't even know if the show is going on or not. Billboard hasn't mentoned it.
Only 2 weeks are left in the chart year.

There may be no televised Billboard Awards show this year but most likely Billboard will announce their finalists at the end of November as they do every year.
They may hand out the awards in a smaller ceremony as they did the 2007 Latin Billboard Awards and the up and coming 2007 Billboard Touring Awards.
Thus some of my predictions of the finalists:
ARTIST OF THE YEAR Akon Daughtry Fergie
MALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR Akon Justin Timberlake Kanye West
FEMALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR Carrie Underwood Fergie Rihanna
DUO/GROUP OF THE YEAR Daughtry Linkin Park Nickelback
NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR Daughtry Robin Thicke Taylor Swift
ALBUM OF THE YEAR "Daughtry", Daughtry "Konvicted", Akon "Hannah Montana Soundtrack", Hannah Montana
HOT 100 SINGLE OF THE YEAR "Big Girls Don't Cry", Fergie "Hey there Delilah", Plain White T's "Girlfriend", Avril Lavigne

Hopefully it is a go. Everyone watch it if it is on because it needs good ratings.

ROTF Christina won Female artist of the year in 2000. Then in 2003 she was also Female artist of the year as written in the magazine but Billboard didnt air the award (when they had aired it every other year and after 2003 started airing again) instead they may up some new female award and gave it to yolanda. hahaha

The Sweet Escape, Irrepleceable, Buy U a Drank, Umbrella or some possibilities.

^It also went straight to the top 10 right away, and fell off the top 50 extremely quickly...it was not on the Hot 100 long enough to have a real shot imo.

I hope they have it again this year, but it doesn't look too promising. Regardless, I'll still be anxiously awaiting the winners.

thanx crashed! I agree-- that makes it sound like there may still be a show. weird how they wait till the last minute though- no wonders the ratings are so low. They barely advertised it at all last year.

Before he cheats has been in the hot 100 for 63 weeks now I think- and is in 3rd place for the all time record- and still going strong. So I think it may win somethng too.

"BHC" will easily be in the top 10 for the year and could be in the top 3. I think it will place higher than "Girlfriend" on the year-end chart.
Anyway, with the writers' strike going on, it may help the Billboard Music Awards happening as networks need new material that doesn't involved guilded writers. You can do an awards show without writers if you don't have monologues and what not.

They did the CMA awards without writers as we could all tell. The only host of the many that was funny was Kimbrely Williams Paisley.

^ So, who wrote what they said? The presenters themselves, or producers or someone who aren't technically writers?

I guess the 2007 Billboard year is over now--- so we should be hearing something soon, one way or another. I personally don't think they need writers or a host- last year was a bit odd, when britney and paris bailed out at the last minute (thank god!), but they could easily have several artists sharing hosting duties like they did for the cmas.

Last year the Billboard Awards finalists were announced on November 29th. Except the announcement for the finalists for the Awards around that date this year.
