OMG! -- 50 BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB RCA/RMG 13,029 -- BABY 81
This is amazing. They didn't even make the HDD chart last week and now this? This suggests they barely dropped at all in week #2! Incredible! Hopefully not an error & all due to the power of positive press & the awesome Kimmel performance.

That's very impressive, especially if it holds up in today's numbers. After Michael Buble, that makes BRMC this year's 2nd hottest Mother's Day gift!

96 BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB BABY 81 8,518 14,455 -41 23,117 Yeah, HDD are incompetent liars. It occurred to me some time between Tuesday and Thursday that maybe they accidentally published last week's data (?). Whatever the case, it still is Top 100, and that's not TOO bad. There are several potential singles on the album; I hope "Berlin" and "Windows" get promoted; I can't see them failing. Even WOC has sort of stabilized and become a left-field hit.

If WOC did nothing then there's no hope. Cold Air has potential.

So, I saw them & it was phenomenal. I was really impressed by their level of musicianship, confidence, and professionalism. I can't think of how the show could have been improved at all except for tighter sound control during the first few songs and if they had played "Weight of the World". The opening acts (The Cobbs & the NYC-based group Dead Combo) also didn't thrill me (especially considering the A-list acts they originally had lined up), but only served to make BRMC look even more superior in every possible way. The majority of the crowd did seem to be first-timers (to the band in general; they wanted to see a "rock show" & they certainly got one!) but they were blown away. It would have been nice to experience the mass recognition of BRMC material, so there could have been more interaction/singing along, etc, but as people have noted, converting hundreds of people in one night in many ways is a more noble feat. And anyway, there WERE some very cool moments between band and crowd...for example, BRMC actually took requests & honored them, something more bands need to do these days. The crowd reacted especially favorably to the Howl material, which was surprising but welcome. "Ain't No Easy Way", "Faultline", and especially "Shuffle Your Feet" (the closer that night) got huge responses. In fact, whenever the band contrasted their set, the crowd really took notice and enjoyed it. ("Windows" also got a sizable reaction). Anyway, I think the existing fans got a terrific performance and new fans were introduced to a band and ethos they will carry with them for years. (A friend I ran into wasn't all too familiar with them, but after the show she ran up to me and said "they were f**king amazing!"). That's what we need to hear. A lot of converts were born that night. Awesome. Intro: The Doors' "My Wild Love" Took Out A Loan Berlin Lien On Your Dreams In Like The Rose Aint No Easy Way Weapon Of Choice Punk Song Stop Windows Not What You Wanted 666 Conducer Need Some Air American X Fault Line Complicated Situation (Peter Solo) Mercy (Robert Solo) Love Burns Rifles All You Do Is Talk Encore: Six Barrel Shotgun Sympathetic Noose Spread Your Love Shuffle Your Feet Videos (not mine): In Like The RoseWhatever Happened To My Rock 'N RollSix Barrel ShotgunShuffle Your Feet <--This one is great! This one most accurately captures the vibe of the show. I was situated in approximately the same location as the person who took these videos, but on Robert's side (towards the left). A Jim Reid clone was standing next to me & my brother (he caught Robert's tambourine towards the end of the show). Oh, and we didn't get photos, because my brother couldn't find film that was "satisfactory". So, we carried around a 5 lb. camera for nothing (and of course, I was pissed off since I had to haul it in my medic bag for hours on end).

Wow, they played heaps of songs. Looks awesome. Hope they come here.
Next single is Berlin. Some what of a dissapointment, was hoping for Window just to mix it up a little.

Jim Reid of JAMC finally comments on the similarities of his band to BRMC...
This appeared in Uncut magazine.
The stupid question please:
"How do you guys feel about bands like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, who are clearly influenced by you?
--Scott Arnold
JIM REID: I like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and I feel sorry for them because I don't think they sound that much like the Mary Chain that it ought to be a talking point. Personally, I think they sound more like Spacemen 3 than the Mary Chain. They have got great songs.
The Reidheads can fuck off, then.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Cobbs, Dead Combo 9:30 Club Washington, D.C. June 2, 2007 $24,000 1,200 / 1,200 1 / 1 $20 I.M.P. Black Rebel Motorcyle Club keep fans guessing at London gigBlack Rebel Motorcycle Club kept the crowds guessing last night (July 4) at the iTunes Festival at the ICA in London. The San Francisco rockers were due to grace the stage at precisely 8.45pm, but due to an "unforeseen personnel shortage" were announced to be joining the crowd at 9.30pm. Just as the crowds were beginning to think the band were set to cancel their set, a characteristically dishevelled Peter Hayes appeared on stage at 9.45pm, gently explaining into the main microphone that they were missing their drummer Nick Jago. Peter Hayes then treated fans to a rare intimate acoustic set, starting with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club classic 'Devil's Waitin'' taken from third album 'Howl', and followed by a solo acoustic version of 'Faultline'. Hayes was then joined onstage by fellow guitarist Robert Levon Been who surprised the crowds with his own solo acoustic cover of the Bob Dylan classic 'The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll'. To the surprise of the cheering fans in the room, the pair then announced "Ladies and gentlemen - Nick Jago", before their drummer bounced on stage to the delight of the applauding gig-goers. BRMC then kick started a grinding and sweat-fuelled, beats-driven set, that mostly took from their latest album 'Baby 81'. The band kicked off with 'Took Out A Loan' before diving straight in with tracks 'Berlin', 'Lien On Your Dreams', 'Weapon Of Choice' and '666 Conducer'. Past classics were touched upon with 'Ain't No Easy Way' (taken from their last blues record 'Howl') and 'Whatever Happened To My Rock And Roll (Punk Song)' which presides on their debut self titled album. Hayes commended the audience for their "f*cking warm welcome" before the band concluded with 'All You Do Is Talk'. The setlist was: ''Devil's Waitin'' 'Faultine' 'Complicated Situation' 'The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll' 'Took Out A Loan' 'Berlin'' 'Lien On Your Dreams' 'Ain't No Easy Way' 'Weapon Of Choice' 'Whatever Happened To My Rock'n'Roll (Punk Song)' 'Windows' 'Not What You Wanted' '666 Conducer' 'Need Air' 'American X' 'All You Do Is Talk'

AMERICAN X: BABY 81 SESSIONS - IN STORES TOMORROW! We're proud of all our songs, even the ones that don't make it on the final album, they have a life force of their own... And we simply wanted to find a way getting those songs out there. As well as this short 9 minute film we created for "American X" with our friend and artist Jamie Dagg, with whom we believe in, and we've even paid for this out of our own pockets to get this released. The strange thing is that for every album we've recorded there's at least twice as many songs that never see the light of day. So someday, hopefully when we're dead, maybe someone will unearth all of it and remember that, hey maybe those 3 strange kids that all dressed in black weren't so bad after all. From, Robert ---------- The EP comes out tomorrow, December 4th, at indie retail locations across the US. This is a limited run, so when they're gone, they're gone. The Track Listing is: 1. The Likes Of You 2. Vision 3. The Show's About To Begin 4. MK Ultra 5. Whenever You're Ready 6. 20 Hours 7. Last Chance For Love 8. American X (Short Film) Click on the below cover art to find a store near you. And for all our fans outside of the US, we have a limited number for sale in our web store starting tomorrow as well.
