NMEArctic Monkeys record in haunted studioAlex Turner says recording sessions feature 'Elsie'The London studio where Arctic Monkeys are recording their new album is haunted, according to the band. Alex Turner told Rolling Stone that Miloco Studios is inhabited by the spirit of a girl. Turner said: "It's said that a young girl, 'Elsie', haunts the chamber, and unexplained faint whispers have appeared on recordings in the past." 'D Is For Dangerous' and 'Fluorescent Adolescent' are among the the new songs the band have recorded for the follow up to their 2006 LP 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not'. The as-yet-untitled album is set to be released in May, and Turner says it will not be a huge stylistic departure from their debut. He explained: "There's also a bit of organ on there, but nothing to worry about."

Wasn't this the group that couldn't deliver on the buzz from overseas where they did very well?

I like them and I'm looking forward to this, even though they're a tad bit overrated. I can't get enough of "When The Sun Goes Down." I fuckin love that track.

365MAGARCTIC MONKEYS' DANCE ROMANCEBritain-based rock band Arctic Monkeys have been adding bits of EDM into their next album, which is set for release next March. According to lead singer Alex Turner, this development is in fact a return to the band's roots."It may sound a bit strange to our audience, but using bits of electronica on our next album is in fact quite logical." says Turner. "I used to listen to pretty much dance music only, until I discovered The Strokes." After the worldwide success of their previous album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, the band feels it is time for experiments, which explains why more and more dance beats sneak in during recording plus the rumors that some recordings have been made with a mobile phone. Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders recently announced that he attends special drumming courses in order to be able to keep up with the harder, dance-related tracks during the band's gigs. The Arctic Monkeys have been one of the most hyped acts of 2006, shooting to stardom after being discovered at Myspace. Although the addition of dance beats to the band's sound might be a logical next step, many bands before them did the exact same thing. Outfits such as LCD Soundsystem, Bloc Party, Postal Service and The Killers are just some names that have been spicing up their rock songs with synths and beats, and it seems that this development has not yet reached its end. Is this the next big thing in pop music? The future of rock music? Or the final fusion which fades the borders between rock and dance? Time will tell.

GigwiseArctic Monkeys Hang Out On Housing EstateTo shoot artwork for their new album....by Chris Taylor on 24/01/2007 The Arctic Monkeys have been hanging out on a dilapidated Liverpool housing estate today – shooting the cover of their second album. The Sheffield four-piece posed in three specially painted houses on an estate in Garston for their as yet untitled follow up to their multi-million selling debut Whatever You Say I Am That’s What I’m Not. Liverpool designers Juno, who also did the artwork for the first LP, have spent the last week gutting three unoccupied houses from the estate, before moving a team of spray artists to paint the interiors. Juno’s PR manager Gemma Germains told us, “They were really impressed and chuffed with the houses, which we were obviously very pleased with. It’s been a big job!” The Arctics even got on well with the local kids from the estate – who managed to make off with the toilet from one of houses earlier this week and whom your correspondent had the pleasure of verbally sparring with yesterday. Germains added, “The band behaved impeccably as always. They hung out with the kids, signing guitars and stuff and having cups of tea with the neighbours.” The three houses feature designs from a number of artists picked out and composed by Juno and the band. The designs were then spray-painted over the interiors by the 54 Crew - who flew off to paint for the King of Qatar after completing their work at the weekend. Despite the band finishing their part of the shoot today, more photographs will be taken at the weekend and next week, with the front walls being taken off the houses so the interiors can be shown off in all their glory. Expect to be able to get your hands on the new album - lovingly enwrapped in the artwork - some time this summer.

Arctic Monkeys Storm Back With Second AlbumUpstart U.K. rock act Arctic Monkeys has set an April 23 international release date for its second album, "Favourite Worst Nightmare." The Domino set will be released in North America the following day, while first single "Brianstorm" arrives April 16. "It's quite a bit heavier in some places -- there's also some really nice songs on there," producer James Ford tells Billboard.com of the new album. "Some of the songs maybe [have] more depth to them. [It's] maybe not quite as instant as the first one." "Favourite Worst Nightmare" is the follow-up to last year's "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not." The set became the fastest-selling debut album in British chart history when it shifted 360,000 copies in its first week. In the U.S., it has sold 294,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The single "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" reached No. 7 on Billboard's Modern Rock Chart. Arctic Monkeys will unveil new material during an April 27 set at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif., and have also begun confirming European festival appearances for the summer. Here is the track list for "Favourite Worst Nightmare": "Brianstorm" "Teddy Picker" "D Is for Dangerous" "Balaclava" "Fluorescent Adolescent" "Only Ones Who Know" "Do Me a Favour" "This House Is a Circus" "If You Were There, Beware" "The Bad Thing" "Old Yellow Bricks" "505" www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003541706

"Brianstorm" has been described as Muse meets Klaxons, and I think that's an appropriate correlation to make.

PITCHFORKArctic Monkeys Team With Dizzee for Single North American tour in the works Monkeys and Rascals in cahoots? Sounds like your parent or guardian's worst nightmare, which makes it your-- terrible segue alert-- Favourite Worst Nightmare! To prepare audiences for their little slice of good news for people who like bad dreams (due out April 23/24, as previously reported), Arctic Monkeys will hit us with the single for the album's lead-off track, "Brianstorm". Even more exciting than a mildly clever transposition of letters: as previously mentioned, deep-rolling grime emcee Dizzee Rascal will guest on one of the single's three exclusive B-sides, "Temptation Greets You Like Your Naughty Friend". And boy-- terrible segue alert-- do you have a dizzee-ing array of purchase options! Domino will release the "Brianstorm" single on 7", 10", and CD on April 17, with digital downloads gratifying us more immediately on April 2. The lads of the moment play scattered dates throughout the coming months. They'll hit Coachella at the end of April, and it looks like a North American tour will follow. Thanks to reader Cliff Rickard, we learned that they'll play Montreal on May 12. And a May 20 at Hard Rock Live in Orlando surfaced briefly, but quickly disappeared. Mysterious! Oh and look: A show in Atlanta on May 19 just appeared on Ticketmaster. Arctic circles: 02-28 Warrington, England - Parr Hall 04-27 Indio, CA - Empire Polo Field (Coachella) 05-12 Montreal, Quebec - L'Olympia 05-19 Atlanta, GA - The Tabernacle 05-20 Orlando, FL - Hard Rock Live (UNCONFIRMED) 06-01 Nürnburgring, Germany - Rock am Ring 06-02 Nürnberg, Germany - Rock im Park 06-16 Dublin, Ireland - Malahide Castle 06-17 Dublin, Ireland - Malahide Castle 06-22-24 Somerset, England - Glastonbury Festival 06-29 Werchter, Belgium - Rock Werchter 07-06 Balado, Scotland - T in the Park 07-21 Valencia, Spain - Festival Internacional de Benicàssim 07-28 Manchester, England - Lancashire County Cricket Ground 07-29 Manchester, England - Lancashire County Cricket Ground

This is going to have to be a pretty damn good album to keep up with the Kaiser Chiefs for 2007.
Does anyone know when Hard-Fi is coming out with new material?

according to wikipedia: "Hard-Fi have built their own studio for the follow up to 2005's massive-selling debut album 'Stars of CCTV'.Having searched fruitlessly for a space, the Staines four-piece have retreated to their hometown for the record, which frontman Richard Archer describes as "darker" and "more expansive". The album's working title is Once Upon A Time In The West, and is set to be released some time in May/June.
Tracks so far announced as possible album tracks/b-sides are:
'I Can't Get Along (Without You)' 'Television' 'Suburban Knights' 'We Need Love' 'Watch Me Fall Apart' 'Tonight' 'Little Angel' 'I Shall Overcome' Another possible album track/b-side is the song 'You And Me' which featured on the DVD/CD set 'In Operation' released in May 2006"

Arctic Monkeys, Be Your Own Pet Tour North America Chaperones wanted: Responsible adults sought to oversee a bunch of hyperactive youngsters hopped up on punk rock and press accolades as they terrorize North America this spring. Job begins in late April at the Coachella festival and ends in late May in Orlando, Florida. (Yup, you're taking the kids to Disney world.) Past experience with animals a plus, as we're dealing with Arctic Monkeys and Be Your Own Pet here. As previously reported, Arctic Monkeys' new album Favourite Worst Nightmare is due out on Domino on April 23 in the UK and April 24 in the U.S. The single "Brianstorm" comes out a week earlier, backed by a collaboration with Dizzee Rascal. Alas, there's no other BYOP news to report. Dates: 03-29 Tokyo, Japan - Zepp Club 04-27 Indio, CA - Empire Polo Field (Coachella) 05-01 San Francisco, CA - Warfield Theatre * 05-02 Portland, OR - Roseland Theatre * 05-03 Seattle, WA - Showbox * 05-04 Vancouver, British Columbia - Commodore Ballroom * 05-07 Minneapolis, MN - First Avenue * 05-08 Chicago, IL - Riviera Theatre * 05-09 Pontiac, MI - Clutch Cargo's * 05-11 Toronto, Ontario - Kool Haus * 05-12 Montreal, Quebec - L'Olympia * 05-13 Boston, MA - Avalon * 05-15 New York, NY - Hammerstein Ballroom * 05-16 Washington, DC - 9:30 Club * 05-17 Philadelphia, PA - Electric Factory * 05-19 Atlanta, GA - The Tabernacle * 05-20 Orlando, FL - Hard Rock Live * 05-28 Landgraff, Netherlands - Pinkpop 06-01 Nürnburgring, Germany - Rock am Ring 06-02 Nürnberg, Germany - Rock im Park 06-16 Dublin, Ireland - Malahide Castle 06-17 Dublin, Ireland - Malahide Castle 06-22-24 Somerset, England - Glastonbury Festival 06-29 Werchter, Belgium - Rock Werchter 07-06 Balado, Scotland - T in the Park 07-21 Valencia, Spain - Festival Internacional de Benicàssim 07-28 Manchester, England - Lancashire County Cricket Ground # 07-29 Manchester, England - Lancashire County Cricket Ground # 08-11 Osaka, Japan - Summersonic 08-12 Tokyo, Japan - Summersonic www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/41667/Arctic_Monkeys_Be_Your_Own_Pet_Tour_North_America

New Ticketing System Set For Arctic Monkeys TourThe Arctic Monkeys, who have emerged as one of the hottest properties in the British music industry over the past decade, are testing an enterprising ticketing initiative for their hugely anticipated U.K. tour. Tickets for their upcoming U.K. dates will be distributed on a lottery basis to those fans who have already registered their interest online. Through the project, which is hosted at the alternative rockers' official Web site, gig-goers can register for only one date and one venue for the band's mid-size venue national tour. Successful applicants will be randomly selected by a computer, and served tomorrow (March 16) with a personal PIN code with which to purchase a ticket. The system, according to a statement posted on the Arctic Monkey's site, allows "everyone to have the best and equal chance" to get tickets for the tour, which begins April 9 at the Guildhall in Southampton, and concludes April 22 at the Leadmill in the band's hometown, Sheffield. A spokesperson for the Domino-signed band explains that the unusual steps were taken predominantly to cater for the band's core fanbase. Online ticket registration opened yesterday and closes at midnight tonight. In recent weeks, the Arctic Monkeys have confirmed their popularity on their home turf, having walked away the big winners from the first two big awards ceremonies in Britain, the Brit Awards and the NME Awards. The band will embark on a U.S. tour beginning April 27 at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, in support of its upcoming sophomore set, "Favourite Worst Nightmare." www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003558814

I like the new one. I can appreciate the juxtaposition of the op art & suburban ennui. I can tell this record is going to look back at the Swinging 60's for inspiration.
The "Brianstorm" is one of the greatest videographic spectacles I've ever witnessed. Well, maybe not. But I can't take my eyes off it.
