The biggest complaint I have heard about this album from the vast majority who have listened to it is that it sounds exactly like a retread of Fallen with a Mozart sample thrown in to look cool. Even people who like the album agree with that. So...I just dont get how anyone could think it doesnt sound like Fallen. I could literally point out which tracks match with the others and how sometimes I even though I accidentally put Fallen instead of Open Door in Itunes.
If you want innovative, risky, and original, go pre Fallen. Sadly, that looks like it will be this band's peak.

GOsh you are quick to ride them off! I am with EvanEscence0. I and even Amy Lee, can't see this album selling as well as Fallen. But that won't be because it is bad. It IS very different. I love it. I think it's as good as Fallen. They really are amazing. LPL, please listen to it again. Just don't go into it with massive expectations. Listen to it as though you don't know the band and it's liek you're pickin their album up for the first time. Please, this record is amazing. I'm glad more and more people are slowly comming around to it. It's growing on people. THat's great.

I just dont see the resemblence the Fallen. I see some slight resemblence. But to say it was a copycat is rediculous. It is quite a bit different than Fallen. So tell me LPL...which songs sound like what? I would like to know.

You completely ignored everything I said and went with "the vast majority..." like you even know what the vast majority is. Seriously how can you say it sounds SO much like Fallen when so many people have been complaning that its "too experiemental" when Fallen clearly was very commercial. Just from that standpoint alone its a much different album, and not in a bad way. (And yes, I'd like to see which songs you think sound the same)

I think they could do 500K+ in the US first week, Evanescence seems to have a really huge fanbase that's waited a long time for new music. Quite a few rock acts have had 400K+ debuts in the last year and Evanscence is more mainstream than any of them. Sales of Fallen and its singles are a lot stronger than for most catalog albums and singles of big-name artists with new releases, so they're definitely continuing to gain fans. Anyway, I listened to a couple of the songs on iTunes shuffle recently and they come across a lot better when my ears aren't ringing from constant loud guitars and drums. I'll probably buy the album first week. I think "Lithium" could be a decent single. "Good Enough" is nice but too long for radio with the instrumentals, I can see why it was originally intended as a soundtrack song.

I think the biggest problem with the album is that nothing stands out after a couple of listens (at least to me). There aren't any hooks that are as memorable as "Going Under", "Bring Me To Life", etc. The closest they get is with "Call Me When You're Sober", by far the most radio-friendly track on here.
If anything, The Open Door is far less commercial than Fallen. Maybe that's what they wanted? Who knows.

^^^It kind of is. Amy Lee stated in an interview with MTV that everything with Ben always had to be commercial. So who knows maybe the reason there aren't any commercial singles on here is because she wanted to prove non-commercial can still sell. I don't know. But if this album does well then maybe their next album will be better. Either way I don't think this will be their last CD. They sold enough with Fallen and will probably sell enough with this one to do another CD.

I'm seeing a resurgence of fans that want some of their less commercial stuff though (the fans that liked songs like October, Field of Innocence, and Understanding), so this CD may end up selling at least 2 million.

It will depend on the singles. In my opinion "The Only One" "Sweet Sacriface" and maybe "Lithium" are great choices.

I hardly think this album has any low points. When I first got Fallen, Haunted and Tourniquet didn't quite hit home for me but now I love them. Same thing applies here.
I loved all the songs through to around Snow White Queen; I found myself being underwhelmed by the full version of Lacrymosa but maybe I'll get over that. Haven't really laid enough attention to 'Like You' to form an opinion on it other than the subject matter is inappropriate to consider it for a single release. Love the cheeky reference to Mary Had A Little Lamb in Lose Control and I liked the rest of the album.
I could easily see Sweet Sacrifice, Weight Of The World and Lithium working as singles. I also think they have enough material on the album to warrant 5 singles so I wouldn't mind All That I'm Living For or The Only One.

I think people were expecting Fallen part 2. What they got was a great alternative rock/goth album. Deal wth it. I hope this one sells. Even if it isn't half as much as Fallen I hope it sells. I think this band can have a big future granted they release the right songs, and continue to make great stuff.
PS. Can someone give me the song list of all the music thatwas NOT on Fallen, prior to Fallen's release. I want to have all of their stuff.

^^^ go to wikipedia and search up Evanescence. They have a list of their CD's from before they released Fallen and the song lists from all of them. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evanescence

I'm really impressed with this one. I like the darker tones.
Yeah, I can hear that in "Lacrymosa." But I think a Rock/Goth album sounds more interesting.

I don't see how anyone couldn't put Good Enough or Like You near the top.

Evanescence innovative?? :o Hush, they used to be I am going to give a good long relisten to Fallen Part 2 in the next few days and see if its grown on me :) I think part of my dislike with it is just that though-they used to be so innovative and now to hand us Fallen part 2? I wish they would have struck out of the comfort zone a bit more. But I guess not every band progresses between cds. Look at Coldplay-they have kind of remade the same cd a few times (though I always end up liking the results). I think once the good lord they basically recycled their last cd wears off I may find some gems on here or ok songs that I can like. Amy is still one of the prettiest woman out in the industry.

I think "X&Y" is different from "A Rush of Blood to the Head." IMO, it's a better record. But "Lacrymosa" doesn't really sound like it would have been on "Fallen." It has a completely different atmosphere. I don't know, it seems like a catch 22 for most recording artists. People complain if your new album is too different and they complain if it sounds the same. I haven't really seen a middle. I think this album is going to, fairly or unfairly, invite comparisons to their previous record because the band has changed. It's a tough situation to be in.

I don't see how anyone couldn't put Good Enough or Like You near the top. Just different tastes I guess. I mean they are good. I like all the songs. But they just aren't my fave.

I've been addicted to Call Me When You're Sober, much more than I ever was with any Evanescence single. IMO, it's their best single so far, mainly because they are clearly not taking themselves too seriously with this song. I love the "you never call me when you're sober" line! I think they are gonna see first week sales of 500+.

According to an italian Evanescence site (http://www.evanescencewebsite.com/homeenglish.php) "Lithium" should be the next single.

I'm a bit disappointed with this new album. I much prefer the previous one. But maybe it will grow on me.

I think even if some don't love the album as much as Fallen, they could release the right singles, and the album could sell well.

You can listen to the whole album on AOL Music. I really like it. But it's tough for me to compare it to "Fallen." I feel like they're two different projects with entirely different objectives. But I'd give "The Open Door" an A.
