Press release
Massachusetts native Ayla Brown, who placed 13th on this year's American Idol competition, has signed an exclusive recording contract today with Double Deal Brand Records. Ayla's debut album - "FORWARD>" - will be released nationally on October 17th, and will be available at all major retailers, itunes and all other digital stores. It can also be pre-ordered at Amazon.com starting in mid-September. Ayla's debut double-single "Know You Better/ I Quit" will be released on Tuesday, September 12th on Amazon.com and at all digital music stores. "Know You Better" will be serviced and worked nationally to CHR and top 40 radio, with an official add date of September 12th. Early commitments are already in from many local Boston radio stations. In addition, several local, regional and national print pieces are in the works, with more interviews scheduled in the next two weeks. The video for "Know You Better" will be shot after August 24th in Boston by Dream Alley Pictures, with several Boston celebrities making cameos in the video.
Well, Taylor wants to take his time on his album. Not to mention Ayla's contract ended on 8/24 since she did not make it to the Top 12. So, since she was not picked up by 19E, there's nothing barring her from releasing anything.

Chris Brown sister?
I'm not ashamed to admit that I get emotional. I'm not ashamed to admit that I get angry when things don't go my way. I'm not ashamed to admit that I get jealous. I'm not ashamed to admit these things because I am human.
Alright, so despite the single's delay on iTunes & Amazon, we have some good news. They have added 'Forward' to her MySpace until it is available for download. The song is beautiful IMO. Listen to it here.
Also, here is an interview Ayla did with NECN yesterday. It has a few shots of the site too which is awesome. You have to go to the 'entertainment' section to watch it.
Yeah, I agree. I wish this had been the lead single but they were going for radio-friendliness. Ayla will be performing this live with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at the end of the month.

Well, looks like Ayla & Co have proved just about everyone on this post COMPLETELY WRONG, wouldn't make very good music critics I guess, Ayla's double single has sold over 2,250 copies in the last 4 days, she will appear on Billboard next week within the top 3 in sales, beating out Kat, as well as Taylor, apparrently the pre sales on her album have shot up incredibly as well. national companies are jumping to buy the album from the distributors, walmart, target, TransWorld Entertainment, Strawberries, Sam Goody, FYE, CD Barn, Transworld apparently wants her for thier own!! I think Forwartd has had over 500 plays in 8 hrs, KYB, and I quit, over 9,000 plays in 20 days, pretty impressive. she also made into the top 20 on idol waves radio with her debut at #16 in 1 week, no-one has done that, and 1 week later she shot to #12..so obviously Many, many people like these songs, her 6 performances at the Big E this past weekend drew in almost 10,000 people........guess it goes to show, not everyone is a good music critic.

well impressive....thats in the eye of the beholder, but impressive enough to knock out Kat with her 1,600 sales, and Taylors 1,700 sales which are both slipping drastically. she can't compete with the big artists, but give the girl some credit. When the Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra call and asks if Ayla can perform with them a third time, thats quite impressive, I think he probably knows talent when he see's it, she will be performing with them on the 29th, they are filming and recording, the BSO has agreed to do a full symphony orchestrated performance of her title track Forward, that's impressive. Not too many people can boast that. especially all of the past x idols, the girls doing OK, I think.

I hardly think beating out two singles that have been out for months, and doing it on the strength of a weekend of autograph signing at a local event, rather than true national sales and downloads is that impressive but whatever floats your boat. I'd be more impressed by the BSO thing if Daddy Brown wasn't a state senator who can pull strings for her. Long term this project is going nowhere because the record label is fly by night and the material sucks. Ayla has talent and potential. I hope she eventually pulls together a better team and makes a comeback down the road.
Am I the only one who wasn't too impressed with Forward?
No. I thought it was less horrible than "I Quit" and "Know You Better" but I wasn't impressed either.

It seems, they went for the "novelty" thing, probably big with the kids, that what it seems. unfortunately for Ayla, these songs will wear off quickly. I Quit has the type of chorus that the kids can sing and grab on to, it has a slight hook. It was written by Phil Thornally, and Colin Campie, Colin wrote "Like a Virgin" madonna, and Phil wrote , and I believe co produced "Torn" natalie umbruglia, I Quit made the charts in England for a while, I believe it even got to number 1 for a while. Know you better is a little more involved, it's the kind of song you have to listen to 3 or 4 times before it strikes you. it's a little unconventional, but enough to get attention with the young crowds. it won't last long, but apparently enough people like it, young people anyway, these songs will sell in the walmarts and kmarts, (mothers buying for thier kids) thats the demograph 6-12 yrs old. It seems they put forward and Diane Warren's song on there to please the AC. market. we can only wait and see what happens with her CD. she may do OK.
Ayla is performing at BU Central @ The Ballroom tonight. So, if there are any BU students on here please make sure you attend!
After auditioning at Gillette Stadium last summer and beating thousands, Ayla Brown won a spot on Fox's American Idol. Since leaving the show, she has performed all over the Boston area, including at the Boston Pops 4th of July concert. When not singing, the 6-foot star attends Boston College, where she is on a full basketball scholarship. Show opening features Angelica Allen, BU's first Terrier Idol. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. Show begins at 9 p.m. Admission: free with valid BU ID.

ya Know, I have been a professional music critic for over 18 years, for national magazines and papers. personally I am a member of many, many blogs, and posts. it's not often that I see direct insults thrown at artists who are trying to make it in an extremely tough business. I join blogs to present constructive critisism, not insult artists, or thier teams. Not once did I insult Taylor or Kat, personally I think they are amazing, I do not like the songs they put out, but I never insult anyone, ever, everyone tries thier best. This place is tough, atleast the members of this forum. my time is best spent on other forums where people are a little more reluctant to insult people. This girl is simply doing her best, that's all. none of us know what the rest of this album is like, they obviously did it very quickly, which is impressive, but obviously to get this girl an album before she is tied up for 4 years under NCAA regulations. As far as her father is concerned, he could be the president of the United States, but I don't believe the BSO would ask her for a third time to perform if she as you people say "sucked" that is my opinion. good luck to all and your blogging.
This is a music discussion forum, not a fan forum. No one insulted Ayla, we insulted her horrible music, and we have the right to do so. "Professional music critics" do that a lot, too.
There is only one person in this topic who seems to have social skill problems, and that's the person who started off with a "You were all wrong!" post backed up by 'facts' that don't make sense and an attempt to minimize Katharine and Taylor successes. You don't insult them, but comparing Ayla's first-week sales to Taylor's and Katharine's 16th- and 14th-week sales is insulting to people's intelligence.

For someone who is supposedly a professional music critic you manage to come across much more like a bored housewife who doesn't understand the point of this forum. Her music is bad in my opinion. If that opinion annoys or bothers you then stay on her fansite. Don't throw out "facts" to back up how great her music is when those facts don't hold up to scrutiny. It's great that she'll perform with the BSO but anyone naive enough to believe her father's position in the state of Massachusetts didn't influence that gig would probably believe Double Deal records is a top flight record label. They've managed to bungle the release of the single (and then blamed it on iTunes) and will probably bungle the album release. Hopefully Ayla will survive this debacle, learn from it, and wait for a better team next time around.

I heard "Forward" again today and the song would have had potential if Ayla had a better label and a snowball's chance at radio play. It should be a good song for her live whenever she's given permission from the NCAA to perform. She'd have been better off only recording "Forward" and releasing that and save the time, effort, and money on a full length album that may well be filled with more,um, gems, like "I Quit."
