There are 5 ballads (including the unplugged version of 'Forward'), 3 mid-tempos and 3 up-tempos. iTunes has it listed as 'rock,' which is pretty messed up because it is definitely not rock. Just another example of iTunes mislabeling music...

Is "crap" considered a genre?

Pop. It's more like an AC Pop but then there are a few tracks on there that keeps it from being categorized that way (ie 'I Quit,' 'Breaking Away,' 'Sugah').

Sounds like another screw up by the record label rather than iTunes so badly wanting to put the CD up for download. Logically there are about 48,234 CDs I'm sure iTunes would want early access to before they'd approach DoubleDeal about Ayla's.

Would downloading the album now count as a street-date violation? I hope that doesn't mess up her debut position on the Billboard charts.

It's no longer hidden on iTunes, all you have to do is search for 'ayla brown' and the album & single will pop up.

I wouldn't expect very big sales first week. The street date violations aren't going to help. Well, I guess it's better to not have high hopes. I think they're going for steady sales rather than a big open.

I'm so exicted that she'll get an album! I was expecting her to win! I can't wait to hear the album. I just bought it on Itunes and it's HOT. 2 big hits "Falling into you" and "Forward", if those don't do well on the charts I'll be shocked!

With the right promotion this album is worthy of big sales IMHO!

There is no money for payola (the only way stations would play this crappy CD) and no money for promotion. She'll do ok as a novelty in her homestate but she doesn't have the ability to do a club tour to support the CD and thus increase sales via a live show. Maybe someday Ayla will hit it big but this project won't be the vehicle to get her there.

If there was marketing behind it there is material that could do very well on the charts.

People have to understand it's not always promotion that gets a song kicking. Even if a song has quality it doesn't necessarily have appeal. Same goes with the artist... if the artist is good but not appealing... they won't fare well in terms of success.

I like Ayla but the songs are dated, poorly produced and cheesy. Unless DoubleDeal has about 2 million dollars earmarked for payola to radio stations, this CD isn't going to be even a blip on the radar.

Just got back from promoting Ayla all day at Faneuil Hall. We handed out about 150 singles, plus many stickers, wristbands, posters and more.
Then we got to have dinner with Ayla and one of her producers. She is one of the nicest people ever and was so thankful for our help. She gave each of us a copy of her album and let me just say the clips on iTunes do not do it justice. I think 'Falling Into You' should be a single it's so good.
'Forward (Unplugged)' will be a free download on Walmart.com this week.

I just remembered the album dropped last week and went to iTunes to sample it.
Congrats for her. I'm sure having an album out in stores is very exciting.

That's the case for pretty much every album in existence.

Is that within normal range for an indie release or is that worse than the typical indie release for someone in Ayla's position? My immediate thought is it is better to have never released a CD at all than to release one and gets sales figures that cause your name to be mentioned in the same sentence with the name "Corey Clark." Go Double Deal! Way to prove your total incompetence with the ONLY artist you had to promote at the time. It's not like the label being busy and Ayla getting lost in the shuffle is going to be a valid excuse for this one.

Carlie, yes her label didn't handle this well at all, but keep a few things in mind in the interest of full disclosure. There aren't many real excuses for anything this bad, but for one thing the NCAA is barring Ayla from promoting her album. How can you sell anything when you can't even say you have an album out? That doesn't make any sense to me. Plus the fact that you can't find it anywhere in stores doesn't help matters much. And she doesn't have any airplay. So while there are no other good excuses here, those factors did come into play. And I don't have a hard time believing these numbers. Hopefully her reviews & articles in the upcoming AI & Boston magazines and her singing the National Anthem at the Celtics home opener will do something.

Urkle, (I'll call you that in lieu of anything else since we are apparently picking random names for each other now for some odd reason) if it wasn't in stores that not the fault of the store and it's not like this album hasn't been planned for a long time.
