They should release "Cherry Lips (Go, Baby, Go) as the USA single for the album.

Can someone post their UK single peaks? This is their 'greatest hits' thread after all. ;) "Androgyny" - #24 "Breaking Up the Girl" - #27 "Cherry Lips (Go, Baby, Go)" - #22 "I Think I'm Paranoid" - #9 "Milk" (featuring Tricky) - #10 "Only Happy When It Rains" - #29 "Push It" - #9 "Queer" - #13 "Sex Is Not the Enemy" - #24 "Shut Your Mouth" - #20 "Special" - #15 "Stupid Girl" - #4 "Subhuman" - #50 "The World Is Not Enough" - #11 "When I Grow Up" - #9 "Why Do You Love Me?" - #7 "You Look So Fine" - #19 Thanks! I wish OHWIR peaked better though. It's one of their lowest.

Subhuman got to #50 with only John Peel-induced airplay & a really limited edition single in early 1995 (way before the album was out). It was kind of an underground phenomenon & not even a real single, but still charted! OHWIR was their first true airplay-fueled/buzz-ridden single in the UK, so #27 is pretty good, within that context. Their next single, "Queer", went to #13, and as we know, "Stupid Girl" #4, etc. Marked upward mobility.

Wow, the IAOBTC remix manages to better the original. It was the best on BLM, but now its up there as being 2.0 worthy. I hope they release it. It has the potential to be huge, and if it were 1999, I've no doubt it would be a Top 5/Top 10 UK hit, but since it's GARBAGE'S single in 2007, it may not get the airplay it deserves. I've consistently burned this song onto compilations I've created for peers for the past 2 years, and it has 100% success rate of wowing the listener. It's one of their best tracks to date.
Oh, and I hated Betcha, but now I love it. I was really harsh on the production based on the 30-second clip, but it sounded much different in full. Kind of electro-based, yet with some of the distinct dark dance elements Garbage favors. I kind of wish they'd further their electronic sound & bring it up to date (or better yet, just make it sound like something from the future on another planet, like they used to). Something like XTRMNTR following Version 2.0 would have been my dream direction for them to explore. But they seem to be interested in more organic material now. I hope they can pull it off.

Betcha leaked fully? ahhh where. I liked the sound of this.
Though I'm not really into Garbage as much as I was in the months before and following the release of Bleed Like Me, I still love em. Buying this 100%.

"Tell Me Where It Hurts" debuts the UK singles chart at #50 (physical release). I'm quite shocked, actually, it's low...

You know what I think? Seeing that this is a Best Of album and that the lead single from it peaked so low, plus Shirley is already preparing what I think is a long overdue solo album (for I'm on the side of those who think Garbage are pretty much a dead entity as a creative unit since Beautifulgarbage), the signs are all here for us to read that Garbage will also be, in the near future, dead as a unit, period. Good riddance, Garbage. During 1995 and 1998, you were one of the reasons to believe that an idea of a post-Alternative Pop sound could be a thing to cherish. But since you decided to go "organic" - or better yet, since you decided to be a Band -, you lost all your greatest strengths. I mean, let's face it: this was a group formed by three producers and a singer/songwriter. From that alone, the idea of Garbage not being a super-produced Pop machine would be ludicrous. And for two albums, they realized just that and created some of the best pieces of radio-friendly music the mid-90s had to offer. And they did it by being defiantly artificial and just a little - but not too much - glamorous at a time of mediocre post-grunge rockist earnestness and just-your-average-next-door dullness. Nowadays, they're but a shadow of those glorious days.

^ I agree with you, actually I only own their debut and Version 2.0, but IMO "Tell Me Where It Hurts" is their best single in ages. Pitchfork review... Garbage Absolute Garbage [Geffen; 2007] Rating: 5.3 For all the hoopla made about the overnight transition from late-80s hair metal to early 90s grunge and the alternative music boom, people forget how equally quickly mindless top 40 rock had its revenge. In 1994, artists like R.E.M., Morrissey, Beck, and Nirvana topped Billboard's Modern Rock Track charts for a significant number of weeks. Then, just one year later, walking time capsules like Live, Better Than Ezra, Goo Goo Dolls, and Silverchair supplanted them. Armed with three producer-musicians and a jaw-dropping frontwoman, Garbage hatched from that aesthetic fall-out, poised to lay claim to the rock-radio vacuum. Absolute Garbage neatly documents their attempted coup, reminding us that, for better or worse, Garbage were one of the most memorable rock bands in the initial post-grunge years. Despite the number of grunge/goth markers they flaunted-- circles under the eyes, grainy, psychologically 'disturbing' videos, a self-flagellating ethos-- Garbage was undeniably pop from the onset. Absolute Garbage's tracklist and accompanying DVD attest to this, displaying how the band often milked five or six singles from an album and made the right music videos to sell them. Adhering strictly to chronological order, the album kicks off with the band's debut and best material. Techno-rock hybrids like "Milk" and "Vow" don't sound so novel today in a world Pro-Tooled to perfection, but the band's production troika, led by Nevermind and Siamese Dream svengali Butch Vig, deftly manipulated simple, catchy melodies and chord progressions to maximize their cross-genre fanbase. Bereaved Cobain apostles could rally behind "Only Happy When It Rains" for its woe-is-me irony and fuzzy bassline, while MTV-crazed teeny boppers simply couldn't get enough of Shirley Manson's girl group-friendly hooks. Validated by their debut's success, Garbage cranked up the hit machine to 11 with Version 2.0, a blockbuster of an album that contributes five solid tracks here. Feeding off the late-90s success of the Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk, the band's pop songs received a house injection with "When I Grow Up" and "Push It" soaring over newfound glitchy percussion and robotic guitar effects. However, the real apex here is "Special", an infectious Pretenders ode able to stand on its own without the studio bells and whistles. The turn of the century wasn't kind to the band, and the compilation's final third reminds us of this all too painfully. Creative juices clearly were in short supply by the 1999 Bond theme "The World Is Not Enough", a predictable "Goldfinger" permutation signaling the band's limitless affinity for big budget theatrics. When 2001's beautifulgarbage took a stab at more "experimental" territory-- a move Garbage weren't equipped for-- Manson ended up sounding as bubblegum as the girly-girl late 90s singers she distinguished herself from on earlier releases. "Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go)" and "Shut Your Mouth" ape Gwen Stefani hella bad, while "Bleed Like Me"'s boring acoustic guitar and sarcastic lyrics scream out Sheryl Crow. Spanking new single "Tell Me Where It Hurts", swollen with canned strings and Manson's Chrissie Hynde affectations, provides little hope for a Garbage rebound. The band's seemingly desperate to reinvigorate their cultural cachet, but Absolute Garbage's latter half emphasizes the depths they've fallen. Even on the enclosed DVD documentary, the band never appears as profound or engaging as the peripheral artists (c.f. Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor) they bump elbows with. Still, even the most hardened underground scenester may be surprised at how many quality hits they'll recognize on this collection. Whether classified as an extremely accessible grunge band or an extremely demented S&M pop outfit, the band left an indelible mark on mainstream rock in an era when boy bands, latin pop explosions, swing revivals and other cringe-worthy fads were gobbling rock bands up. It's just a shame Garbage had to outlive their usefulness to such an aesthetically displeasing degree. -Adam Moerder, July 23, 2007

Oh my God, they are going to tour in September & October. So excited. Also, TMWIH came in #12 in physical sales at the largest chain store in the country; it's the downloads they had to compete with that brought them down (this has happened a lot lately).
The album is Top 20 on amazon & seems to be selling well in the UK. Not overly concerned, as a lot of casual fans have been waiting a long time for this release.
I can't wait to buy all this shit tomorrow (today?). Hopefully my local retailer ordered everything. I just want to sit back & experience it all, in tandem. I mainly looking forward to the DVD.

That last line of the Pitchfork review was harsh, eek. Overall pretty good review, don't agree with the Gwen reference at all though. OMG I hope they come to Toronto.

Please God, let them maintain this (or even go higher!)

Here's the physical chart. Had the old chart standard applied, they would have another Top 15 hit. The download factor really hit them hard. 01 02 Rihanna feat. Jay-Z - Umbrella 02 03 Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry 03 05 Enrique Iglesias - Do You Know? (The Ping Pong Song) 04 10 Kate Nash - Foundations 05 06 Avril Lavigne - When You're Gone 06 NE Biffy Clyro – Folding Stars 07 NE Amy MacDonald – Mr Rock & Roll 08 01 Arctic Monkeys - Fluorescent Adolescent 09 NE Mark Ronson feat. Lily Allen – Oh My God 10 NE Cast Of High School Musical – What Time Is It 11 04 My Chemical Romance - Teenagers 12 07 Lee Mead - Any Dream Will Do 13 09 Natasha Bedingfield - Soulmate 14 NE The Thrills – Nothing Changes Around Here 15 NE Garbage – Tell Me Where It Hurts 16 15 Kelly Rowland feat. Eve - Like This 17 19 The Hoosiers - Worried About Ray 18 17 Beyonce & Shakira - Beautiful Liar 19 14 Robin Thicke - Lost Without U 20 NE Sunfreakz feat. Andrea Brittain – Counting Down The Days 21 NE Goodbooks – Passchendaele 22 NE Ali Love – Secret Sunday Lover 23 12 Frankie Valli/The Fiur Seasons - Beggin 24 13 Super Mal feat, Luciana - Bigger Than Big 25 08 Bloc Party - Hunting For witches 26 26 HelloGoodbye - Here In Your Again 27 11 Travis - Selfish Jean 28 NE Lethal Bizzle – Bizzle Bizzle 29 22 Bobby feat. Timbaland - Anonymous 30 30 Kelly Clarkson - Never Again Source: Music week It just goes to show that most Garbage fans would still rather buy the physical product. Shame, because had this been 3 years ago, they could have had themselves another Top 15 hit.

Since we're discussing "ifs" and "maybes", if that system was still in place, Lethal Bizzle would have earned his first Top 30 hit since that monster "Pow (Forward)" in 2004. But Garbage at least got to #50 in the end. Lethal Bizzle didn't even achieve a Top 75 placing. You can get back on topic now.

#8 #4(!) on US amazon. :) I ordered the 2-CD set & DVD from my local indie shop...they had the standard edition, which is funny, since it seems the "limited" edition is far more prominent in stores overall.

And agreed with the Gwen reference too...ironically, Pitchfork has been pretty kind to solo Gwen, especially TSE.

I went to 4 different stores today, and none of them had either edition of the album! Not even one copy. I was hoping for Limited Edition with the remixes since I originally got into Garbage that way. I may have to order it online. Either they got very few and ran out quickly, or the album is really selling well.

AG missed the top 10 in the UK. I officially don't trust midweeks anymore.
Edit: #11 debut.

It missed the Top 10 by less than 200 copies. Ridiculous. I hate the weekend updates. #11 isn't bad, of course, but once you see Top 5 within your grasp, anything else is a letdown.

^ I agree with you, actually I only own their debut and Version 2.0, but IMO "Tell Me Where It Hurts" is their best single in ages. Let's just say that "Tell Me Where It Hurts" is one of those songs I wouldn't mind if I was listening to the radio (and I don't do that too often these days...) as a sort of background noise company. And yes, you're right that it's their best single in quite some time. But I also don't think it's the right song to signal that Garbage can go back to something approaching relevant, if you get my drift. It's definitely good enough for rabid fans, but not exactly the kind of song to pull out either new fans or disillusioned ones, or even to grab the attention of either casual music listeners or dedicated music buffs. All in all, it's the typical Greatest Hits single, if you know what I mean. ;) And I already hear talk of Garbage getting together again to release a new album in 2008. Personally, I don't think they should bother at this stage. But hey, maybe they'll surprise me and actually pull a Phoenix-like rise from the ashes. Kidding. The best I expect right now is for them to, at least, make an album that doesn't look embarrassing when compared to the first two. And both beautifulgarbage and Bleed Like Me, in my view, did just that. Oh, and that last line on Pitchfork's review, even if harsh, is, the way I see it, just the truth. And we know how the truth can hurt. ;)

No. It was #4 on amazon for awhile. But I can tell you firsthand that I had trouble locating it; my indie shop had to special order it for me. Stock issues & Garbage albums tend to go hand and hand.
I'm not eager to see Wednesday's chart.

Garbage hasn't properly promoted a release since 1999. But anyway, #68 is s**t, but in consideration of all the shipment problems, it is almost respectable. It's funny that the YYYs EP (which I also bought) sold nearly as much.
The Virgin Megastore in NYC (Times Square!) didn't even have the DVD. If the biggest record store in the best city in the country can't stock an item, you know there is an issue (the GH itself was one of the best sellers storewide, though). I haven't even found the DVD yet, and my local store can't order it. Looks like I'll have to order it from amazon.com. I hate resorting to that, but I have no other choice. Plus, I appear on the DVD several times, so I better own it, I guess.
