Jimmy Eat World Sees The 'Light' This FallAugust 15, 2007, 12:40 PM ET Katie Hasty, N.Y. Jimmy Eat World has set an Oct. 16 release date for its new Interscope album, "Chase This Light." As previously reported, the rock foursome tapped Butch Vig to produce the set, its first album in three years. "The record is quite eclectic," Vig told Billboard.com. "There are three or four songs that sound like classic Jimmy Eat World, with angular, razor-sharp guitars. There are a couple that are a lot more dreamy, and some that are very groove-acious. Anybody who is fan will like this record." The album's first single, "Big Casino," will be released to radio at the end of this month. The set also features backing vocals from Amy Ross of Nowhere Man And A Whiskey Girl and "some whip-cracks, explosions, bells, glocks and the occasional reverse cymbal," says vocalist/guitarist Jim Adkins on the band's Web site. "I can't wait to show you guys what we have been doing for the last year." "Chase This Light" is the follow-up to the 2004's "Futures," which has sold 615,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Capitol/EMI recently released expanded editions of two of Jimmy Eat World's earliest albums: 1999's "Clarity," which gained bonus tracks "77 Satellites" and "What Would I Say to You Now," and 1996's "Static Prevails," which now has a demo version of "Sweetness" and "Christmas Card." Jimmy Eat World is currently touring in Europe and is scheduled to perform at the Leeds and Reading festivals in the U.K. at the end of the month. Here is the track list for "Chase This Light": "Big Casino" "Let It Happen" "Like She'll Always Be" "Carry You" "Electable (Give It Up)" "Gotta Be Somebody's Blues" "Feeling Lucky" "Here It Goes" "Chase This Light" "Firefight"

Billboard:
ARTIST: JIMMY EAT WORLD
ALBUM: CHASE THIS LIGHT
Having first blazed down the teary-eyed emo trail in 1999, Jimmy Eat World keeps successfully tapping into the teenage angst-ridden pop/punk market five albums in. "Chase This Light" finds the band returning to the more accelerated power pop of 2001's "Bleed American" rather than the darker tone heard throughout 2004's "Futures." With Butch Vig behind the boards, there is an extra coat of studio sheen on anthemic rockers ("Big Casino"), finger-snapping dance-y numbers ("Always Be") and such borderline Fall Out Boy-sounding political shout-outs as "Electable (Give It Up)."

Billboard.com for the 11/3 charts:
Selling 62,000, rock troupe Jimmy Eat World's "Chase This Light" debuts at No. 6, tying the group's previous best debut with 2004's "Futures." But the Interscope album moved 62,000, far short of the 99,000-copy entry of "Futures."
