It has been a good 4 years since her last studio album Bare was released (her 4th solo one). According to PauseAndPlay.com, her album Songs Of Mass Destruction will be released in September of 2007 on J Records. Here is an article from March of this year about the project: Lennox Wrapping Album With Glen Ballard
March 15, 2007, 3:25 AM CT
Tamara Conniff, The Hollywood Reporter Grammy-winning songwriter-producer Glen Ballard is putting the final touches on Annie Lennox's first album in four years, which will be released in the fourth quarter.
"It's a very intense record," he says. "It's very personal to her. We spent a lot of time making sure the music was the way she wanted it."
The former Eurythmics vocalist's previous set, "Bare" (J Records), her follow-up to 1995's "Medusa," debuted at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 in June 2003.
Also set for the fall is a solo album from Tony-winning actress Idina Menzel of "Wicked" fame. Ballard co-wrote tracks and produced the disc, which he says "goes way beyond Broadway."
Ballard, best known for his work with Alanis Morissette, is particularly fascinated with the stage at the moment and might just be working on a secret big project.
"Recorded music has become a loss leader. It's terrifying," he says. "You can get music for free, and in a year, movies will be, too. Performers and the live experience may be the future of the business. I'm certainly looking at Broadway as a place to go."

This just in: Annie Lennox plans to release her new album "Songs of Mass Destruction" this fall.
The track "Sing" calls for the implementation of a program to stop the transmission of mother-to-baby HIV.
She asked 23 of the world's best known female artists to sing with her and every one said yes, including Madonna, Celine Dion, Gladys Knight, Joss Stone, Shakira, Fergie, P!nk, Faith Hill, Melissa Etheridge and k.d. lang. Annie will make the track available on the Internet, with all download profits going to support Treatment Action Initiatives (TAC).

www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/07-18-2007/0004627857&EDATENew Album 'Songs Of Mass Destruction' to be Released October 2nd 2007 NEW YORK, NY UNITED STATES 'I feel closer to my own cutting edge than before and my voice seems to be in its prime' -- Annie Lennox NEW YORK, July 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Multi-million selling, iconic artist Annie Lennox will release her fourth solo album, "Songs Of Mass Destruction," on October 2nd, 2007 through Arista Records. The album was recorded in London, Los Angeles and Miami with veteran producer Glen Ballard (of Alanis Morissette's 'Jagged Little Pill' fame). In a career that has spanned over 25 years, including the 15 years since Annie released her first solo album, Diva, no other British female artist has achieved so much recognition. Over 78 million in global sales, and 33 hit singles compliment the 4 Grammies, 11 BRITS, 5 Ivor Novellos, the Oscar, and the 2 Golden Globes amongst other accolades. "Songs Of Mass Destruction" showcases an artist who is unafraid of pushing boundaries and challenging herself. Annie delivers thought provoking and intelligent lyrics matched with her distinctive pop sound. She says that this album is the closest she's been so far to that authentically raw and emotional place, infused with the contrasts of beauty, yearning and sadness. The result, from the haunting introductory song, 'Dark Road' to the closing epic, 'Fingernail Moon', is a sumptuous musical soundscape within which Annie's soulful voice shines and soars. In addition to being an incredibly successful artist, Annie is a celebrated activist and humanitarian. The new album features the soaring and powerful feminist anthem 'Sing', born out of Annie's involvement with Nelson Mandela's 46664 and Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) -- organizations fighting for human rights, education and health care for those affected by the HIV AIDS virus. The track 'Sing' features 23 of the most recognized and successful female solo artists in the world, invited by Annie, to raise awareness and finances for TAC initiatives. Included among the group are superstars such as Madonna, Sarah McLachlan, Celine Dion, Fergie, Faith Hill, Pink, Dido, Gladys Knight, kd Lang, Angelique Kidjo, Bonnie Raitt, Shakira, Melissa Etheridge, Anastasia, Joss Stone, KT Tunstall and many others, as well as TAC activist members own vocal group known as 'The Genetics', whose CD of music inspired Annie to make 'Sing' a reality. According to Hosh Gureli's MySpace who still handles the commissioning of the remixes and stuff for Arista/RCA/J Records, there will be some remixes for the singles off of this album. He hasn't specified who will be doing which songs and when.

Wow! 'Sing' sounds interesting! I think "Sing" is amazing. It's a moving song with wonderful "build." I see it's a virtual who's who of female vocalists. I LOVE this album ... it's one of my favorites of the year so far.

Billboard review:
Songs of Mass Destruction ANNIE LENNOX Producer(s): Glen Ballard Genre: POP Label: Arista
As the title "Songs of Mass Destruction" infers, it is hardly tea time on what is just Annie Lennox's fourth solo album in 15 years. She uses every delicate edge of her dusky, seductive voice to paint a world-weary portrait of dreams lost, love scattered, shivering cold. Opener/ first single "Dark Road" and cloudy, meandering "Lost" are definitive, gorgeous servings of her dark brew. But Lennox is hardly giving in to defeat. "Ghosts of the Machine" is a soul-stomping anthem of defiance, insisting, "Set my spirit free," while "Womankind" issues a playful call for "the best thing that hasn't happened to me." There's no getting around the overall thematic pall, but Lennox surrounds every message with such beauty that one remains convinced that it's all going to be OK. —Chuck Taylor

Is that good? I know 'Diva' debuted at #1, but I'm not sure about subsequent releases. Didn’t Eurythmics ‘Peace” get kind of a cold reception in ‘99? In the U.K. anyways…

I heard this cd and it is great, wish the US would wake up to talent like hers. I hope her first single really hits but knowing US Radio the programmers will not play the song. I would love to see her sell a million with this selection.

I'm expecting Annie to get Grammy nominations. Not this year. Didn't her album just miss the cut-off date?

TV ads have been airing during the last week or so to promote the album. The ones airing here contain the song "Dark Road."

I'm expecting Annie to get Grammy nominations. Not this year. Didn't her album just miss the cut-off date? The cut off was 9/30, her CD came out 2 days later on 10/2. In recent years I've seen October releases nominated because the albums were available "digitally" before they physically hit stores. "Dark Road" definitely has a chance for pop female (they've put older women in this category before, remember when Bonnie Raitt lost to Kelly Clarkson?).

Wow, I just purchased this, and it is really amazing! Well, it is Ms. Lennox, so what would I expect. It is a shame that this isn't selling better. I see a trend though, alot of the femaile singer/songwriter artists are just not having really good sales right now, guess that is not where the market is at. Look at Vanessa Carlton, Mandy Moore, Melissa Etheridge, and Annie. To bad though because these albums are all very good. Oh, that Bubbly song singer is doing well though!
