New thread started because of proboards tendency to have a glitch that deletes dozens of pages of a thread if it gets too long. Mods, you can close the other joint. If anybody wants to do a write-up or summary of the album's info, singles hitting #1, etc, do it and I'll put it in this intro post. Thanks! Fantasia is currently - Starring in a lead role on Broadway, winning awards and getting rave reviews
- On top of the charts with "When I See U"
- Preparing to release the 3rd single off of her Gold Album "Fantasia"
Single list Hood Boi

There should be 2 more singles for this album after NTWTID to sell the album further and hopefully expose her to a wider audience.

Her 3rd single is: "Not The Way That I Do". You seem to have inside track. Can you give any reason why J records (or whoever picks singles) would pick this song????? It makes absolutely no sense and does not even stand to help this album continue to sell after WISU resurrected it from obscurity. Who in the sam hell is in charge? Why not Surround U. It flows with the success of WISU. Its the most popish song on her alum you're gonna get. NTWID is taking a lleap back to Hood Boy. Did they not learn a lesson from that? Or do they not care? And if they don't care, at least pick a song that may have a chance. Maybe I'm naive but I see this this going the way of "SidelineHo". I would just like to know what they thought when they picked this one.

I hope this is only a rumor in the pipeline because this doesn't fit the momentum generated from WISU at all. It doesn't even fit Fantasia's image and radio's conception of that perspective image. J Records need to quit playing, for real, for real.

If it was so against her image, she shouldn't have made it so ill, man. Why record and put out something that is a scandal as a single, unless it's your debut or something?
Anyway, I just hope they do it right. If they do it right, it could be a hit video, cause the beat is fire. What I hate is that they don't get a rapper on a remix, cause that beat is hot as hell.
Fabolous, though he's everywhere lately. Kanye would set that on FIRE and he's cool with and respects Fantasia and her skill level. I say again - Phonte from LB. They're both from NC and it's WAYYYYYYY past time they did a track together.
Even Cee-lo. Andre 3000. So many choices. I know she had big boi on a track but that wasn't a remix. Hell, J, call me - I'll light that shit up, lol. Shooter, can you hook that up? lol. Have Clive PM me. ;)

NTWTID will surely FLOP hard as hell. If this is true, J is clearly trying to sabotage the poor girl.
If they really wanted to sell this cd, they'd re-release it with "Broke" as the lead-off single.

Actually, it isn't her choice, she can give input but Clive Davis does have the final say. I remember several tracks that Fantasia mentioned in interviews prior to the album drop that would be on the album and when the album came out many of the tracks that she mentioned were not a part of this album, actually, MOST of the songs she mentioned were not on the album. Clive Davis probably makes them record about 20-30 songs then HE picks what HE wants. So she can't really decide what she's going to record, well, she can but as you can see, the final product might not be what she thinks it is. If this is a single then chances are this is a song that clive davis picked. I truly believe in fighting for a single but it's pretty hard to fight for the right single when you're doing 8 shows per week. When you've got an album full of great songs and coming off a #1 single you have to just HOPE that the people pick the right follow up singles. This time, they aren't, I'm thinking they just want this era to die, and you really have to release another single after a #1 so instead of releasing a possible #1 again, they aren't taking any chances, they are going to kill it a fast death with the worst track left on the album.

I believe this more and more. How sad for her that this very good album will go out like that. They could let this album fade and she still be looked at positively. If they want it to die just don't promote the song but put out a better song. She don't deserve this.

NTWTID will flop. Why do they think people will be into this after Hood Boy wasn't very well received? She's supposed to have a more grown up image with her whole Broadway run and they're going to go with NTWTID to capitalize on that?
I swear sometimes fans can run labels better than the professionals can.

NTWTID is a very attitude-driven song and if the video captures that, I think the song will become a hit for Tasia. And she definitely needs to make sure her live performances really sell this song, too. I, personally, love the song and can't wait to see what the video looks like.

If there is a video. J would have to put money into promoting this song first for it to go anywhere. They not even willing to do it to take WISU to pop and that is actually a R&B hit. I'm not holding my breathe on them doing it for this. Listening to this song all I see is a Beyonce type video with women dancing in shorts and stilletos swinging their hair with attitude at a line of thugged out guys. That just ain't Fantasia and if they try this (again) it won't work. And where would she perform this. This isnt morning show friendly. She not really singing, more like rappin over a beat. Its hard to understand what she's saying. the way the verses overlap will make it crazy hard to even perform live. She have to keep her breath between lines. Just makes no sense but oh well

Just makes no sense but oh well None at all And I absolutely agree, if they can't be bothered to spend enough money to send her first #1 R&B hit to at least Rhythmic radio, I am not sure what makes anyone thinks she is gonna get any kind of budget for a video for a song that is going to flop at radio. I still don't believe this is going to be the single and won't believe it until I see an add date. Why would J Records, who is usually as slow as molasses, send out unedited promo singles when she hasn't even peaked with the single she has? Those are NOT radio promos.

I agree this song would flop. Hard.
It's a club song and should stay in the clubs.
Also, where's the support for When I See U? A number 1 single and there's nothing happening. No add date for top 40/rhythmic, no press release, no myspace update. Zip.
J Records did update its site earlier this week--to announce that Carrie went to a fashion show. Thanks, J.
I wouldn't complain about the lack of top 40/rhythmic add dates if the song was something like Two Weeks Notice, which is a pure adult R&B song. But the whole purpose of releasing a song like When I See U is that it works on multiple formats.
Looks like it. I don't think it's the worst song on the album. But it's a lot like Hood Boy--loved by the critics, hated by urban radio.

When I See U will stall on the BB Hot 100 since it's not being sent to Rhythmic and Top 40. It's gaining spins on Urban and Rhythmic, but losing audience fast and digital sales aren't great. Hurts to see her music suffer, but I'm grateful it's an R&B #1 without much support.

Maybe this will prompt her to leave j then. They've done some really wack things over the years.
If this is another one, maybe she can bounce and go elsewhere. Somewhere that gives her more support, and that can put out press releases and updates. Someplace that doesn't treat its young stars with two black parents like garbage.
Columbia? Def Jam? G.O.O.D.? Rhino? Where should she go?

Hmmm:
Columbia: no, no, no (look at Amerie). Def Jam: could be the one, but she probably won't go multiplatinum there. G.O.O.D.: no, it doesn't look like a solid label yet. Rhino: that'd be interesting, since I believe they don't have many current artists so were she to sign to them maybe she'd get a push.
She needs a label that can take her to platinum easily, with a shot at 2X. Atlantic, maybe?

But at least she managed to sell more albums thanks to "WISU".

It's not good to follow a huge single with the same sound. Clive knows it. That is why J picked something a little different from "WISU". I don't know if it sounds good or not because I've never heard it.

That's what I'd heard too. Like basically with each single released you try to go for a different audience - like a new product line to get people to buy the album. Which is probably why I hate a lot of artist's first singles.

Surround U would be my choice. How is she going to perform NTWTID on morning talk shows? she doesn't sound her best on the song anyway, and its really not that catchy.

How is kanye going to rap "so I paralell double park that muthafukka sideways" and the rest of his not-for-old folks lyrics on regis & kelly?
How do rappers, who typically have controversial lyrics and topics that aren't really fodder for some old lady waking up in the suburbs, do their thing?
Sanitize it (radio edit) and be done with it. It's not like she's immortal technique. Amy Winehouse has lyrics in her singles talking about orgasms and keeping dicks wet. She's all over radio with it.
Sanitize it and be done with it. And don't make songs like that, lyrically, if nobody is supposed to hear them.
She's not Paris or the Coup, flowing about corruption at the highest levels of government or the downfall of western society because of capitalistic oppression. If pcd can sing and gyrate all over the place, whoever complains that the sanitized version is too graphic can really sit the hell down.

I can't even understand what she's saying in the song so the lyrics is the least of the problems. Oh there are issues with it though. "Sniff of the Wiff"? Cmon! People will hate this but she does not have that sex appeal to pull off this type of song and sell it. Another problem i have is her voice and the way is sounds saying the lyrics. She don't sound natural at all. It sounds like its too high a note. She will struggle to get this out live. She likes to move around and that takes your breath away already. And I'm surprised you like this seeing as I've seen you talk about wanting classic music from her. Classic this ain't.

Oh this isn't classic but it thumps. I've heard her do it live, or rather heard audio of her doing it live, and it sounded fine.
Edit out any offensive parts. I already provided example after example of this being done, with songs past and current. It doesn't sound like everything else on the radio - that's a good thing!
They could get really different with the video - somethin to just wile out to.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not pushing for this to be the single. I'm saying if they've chosen this, they have plenty of things they could do to get a hit.
Of course it's j, so we'd have better luck getting KRS an Orbit commercial, but you get the point.
