You know Urban radio ain't going to spin this. They're afraid of anyone over 25 years old or a certain quality of music. If you ain't snappin', they ain't playin'. It's really frustrating. It really is.

"Between Friends" is currently sitting at #91 on the R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart.
It was #92 last week, and off the chart two weeks ago.

I hope so too! Although I would really like to see a single release for "Too Grown", but it seems unlikely.

"Almost" needs to do as well as "Me" & "Can't Get Enough."

It's S-L-O-W-L-Y moving up on Adult R&B. I wish R&B radio would treat her better.

clutchmagonline.com/newsgossipinfo/artist-brief-six-questions-with-tamia/ARTISTbrief: Doesn’t it feel good when you purchase a CD and you can just let it ride? Well, if you were to purchase any of Tamia’s albums, we promise that you will do just that! We recently caught up with Tamia to let her know how much we love her and her latest CD, Between Friends. Q: We absolutely love your latest CD, Between Friends and so does everyone else! Are you excited about all the great feedback and love it has received? I’m very excited about Between Friends . . . especially since I put this album out independently on my own record label, Plus 1 Music Group; it has definitely been a labor love. And, I’m so excited for people who have the album and like it! Q: Do you feel that you get the recognition you deserve? If not, why do you think that is? That’s an interesting question. I try not to think about things like that. And, I tend to stay focused on things I am doing now and doing them to the best of my ability. Q: We know you are a working mom, like many women. How do you keep it together when you are running around being mom all day? I don’t run around all day . . . I fly! I’m Super Mom. Just kidding. I don’t know! When you are a mom you just make it work. Q: We hear that Grant recently joined the Phoenix Suns. Are you happy about the move? Yes! We are very excited and happy about the move and this season. Q: Have you seen any changes in the music industry since you began? One big change I’ve seen since I began is [that] artists used to receive multi-album record deals, now you’re lucky to have one CD out and that’s only if your single is blowing up! Q: What’s you favorite song on the album? It all depends on what mood I’m in!

Big Gay Deal: The Second Coming of TamiaArticle Date: 03/20/2008 By Duane Wells When Tamia arrived on the music scene in 1998, she was already a shining star. Beautiful, poised, talented and shepherded by music legend Quincy Jones, Tamia found almost immediate success with the Grammy-nominated track “You Put A Move On My Heart” and the chart-topping single “So Into You.” Thereafter, though she found regular success on subsequent recordings with hits like the Grammy-nominated "Spend My Life with You" and “Stranger In My House”, Tamia struggled to separate herself from the pack of up and coming R&B divas languishing on the rosters of every major American record label. But that all changed in 2005 when the petite songstress struck out on her own, formed an independent record label and released Between Friends, an album that represents her best and most personal work to date. In between rehearsals for her upcoming tour, I caught up with Tamia for a chat about the ongoing success of her first independent release, her big lesbian following and what it means to be ‘goofy with an attitude.’ GayWired.com: So Tamia, I hope you won’t take this the wrong way, but I think Between Friends may be your best album ever. Tamia: Oh no, I don’t take that the wrong way! Well thank you… [Laughs] GW: Seriously though, it feels like you really found your own voice with this project. Would that be an accurate assessment? Tamia: Yeah. I will say that this is the easiest album that I’ve ever made. It was easy because it was an independent project so I didn’t really have to talk to anyone about what I wanted to do, and that made it really free creatively, If I liked a song, I sang it. If I recorded it and it felt right, we kept it. There was something so liberating about the process that I think I did, in a way, find my own voice. GW: You recorded Between Friends back in 2005 but here we are in 2008 still talking about this album because it’s still charting singles and going strong. It just keeps growing and growing. Does this release feel like the little engine that could for you? Tamia: It does! [Laughs] That’s la great way to describe it. We put it out one October and literally they were playing it in Orlando the next October. And then the rest of the country sort of caught on to it. But yeah, it’s incredible that we’re talking about an album that I recorded over two years ago and people are obviously still discovering it. It is like the little engine that could and it’s great. It’s my baby. I know every artist says that about every album, but when I formed the company and wanted to go into the studio with Shep [Crawford] and just create a project out of love, with no pressure, this is what came out. So I want as many people to hear it as possible. From an independent standpoint it’s a lot more difficult obviously because you don’t have the big machine and the marketing dollars, but it really went by word of mouth and the internet and things like that. The fans are the ones who really put this album out. GW: Why do you think people are connecting with this project in such an overwhelming way? Tamia: I think in a way people sort of see the realness from me. I wasn’t trying to be what someone else wanted me to be. Not that I was before, but there were definitely trends in music that a lot of artists were trying to follow and sometimes that wasn’t necessarily who I was. So this project was about going into the studio and doing what speaks to me artistically. And maybe people could feel that. Maybe they could feel me taking off the mask a little bit GW: So is success sweeter as an independent artist? Tamia: I will say that those many years on the major label side taught me a lot about the music business itself. You know, the budgets, how much things cost, the overspending that happens that unfortunately the artist has to pay for… things that have helped me in terms of running an independent label and in terms of where to keep costs down and where to spend a little more in order to make it all work. GW: You’ve got a big gay following, but I’ve also heard that you have a large lesbian following… Tamia: I do? [Laughs] GW: So I’ve heard. Tamia: [Speaking louder] I had no idea that I had a big lesbian audience. I said that loud enough so my manager could hear that. [Laughs] GW: Yeah well… as I listened to the lyrics of the track “Me”, I thought you were sort of teasing your lesbian audience with the double entendres that run through the song. Tamia: That’s the great thing about music. Music should make you think. Music should make you look into your own life. “Me” is sort of like “Stranger In My House.” You listen to it and you take different things from it. When I first played “Me”, I knew people were really listening if I got to that part in the song where I sing 'If you ask me if it’s another man, I say no. If you ask if it’s another woman, I say yes', and they were like ‘What?”. [Laughs] Then I’d be like, 'OK, they’re listening'. GW: Why do you think gay audiences have been drawn to your music over the years? Tamia: You know I can sit here and try to figure out why this album has been doing what it’s been doing, but really the core of it is, you don’t really know. I think people can just feel the music and it doesn’t matter whether you’re gay, straight of whatever. GW: So you’re planning on touring with Between Friends this spring and summer right? Tamia: I am actually. I’m in LA right now rehearsing for South Africa next month. And we are doing a concert series in the States in May and June. It’s going to be a lot of fun and I think people are going to be surprised. It’s weird because I’ve been in the business so long but I’ve never done a [real] tour. GW: What will surprise people most when they see you perform live? Tamia: Sometimes people have a preconceived notion of who they think I am. You know I came out [working] with Quincy [Jones]… my husband is Grant Hill. People think I live this sort of life and they think I’m stiff. But when they meet me they’re like, ‘you’re my homegirl’ and I think a lot of that comes across on stage. A lot of times people think I’m very serious, but I’m really goofy. [Laughs] I’m goofy with an attitude sometimes. I love to perform. I have a great band. I’m not doing any shows to track. It’s all about the artistry and performing with the band. It’s just fun. GW: Are you working on a follow-up to Between Friends? Tamia: As of right now, I’m not working on a follow-up. I’m working on getting my show together. I want to perform. I want to re-introduce myself to people or to introduce myself to people who may have heard the music, but don’t really know me. For me, I love to record, but I think you get a different sense of me when you see me perform. The records take on a different twist when you see them performed live. So hopefully people will see that. All hail the second coming of Tamia.

This woman is seriously so underrated. IMO one of the best R&B singers of the past 25 years.
