Exactly. We all know she's Miss Thang, but she needs to tone that ghetto-ness down.

^^ I agree with you. And she should never try to rap on an album again. It's not cute. I love Monica to death but lets face reality....the reason her album is sucking in sales right now is because her songs are sh*t. She really should go back to the music she put on TBIM album. That sound fit her well and would still work in todays industry. I would love Monica to go a little less ghetto, but I actually love her rapping. The songs she had to rap on were better on the last album though.

^^I partially agree. I liked her rap verse on 'So Gone'. But I hate it on 'Dozen Roses'.
I really want to see her make a comeback! I want another massive hit like AOM or TBIS. Something to prove that she can still pull a hit out of her ass. She has the talent and look...she just needs to lose the ghetto vibe and go back to the simple stuff.

I agree with u all!
Monica is still in the spotlight, however, all she needs is a good pop song! I'd like to see Monica do some rock songs just as Mary J. Blige and U2's One or an acoustic ballad like Irreplaceable

She can keep her damn ghetto image. I could careless. I just don't want it to seep into her music. "Raw" was all ghetto, but it was hot. "Everytime The Beat Drop" not so much.

blogs.sohh.com/atlanta/2007/01/is_monica_arnol.htmlAfter a stalled career, and two disappointing singles, word on the streets is that former Pop and R&B-sensation, and Atlanta resident, Monica Arnold is extremely close to being kicked out the door by J Records due to poor record sells. Music mogul and consistent star maker, Clive Davis, is reportedly very upset over Monica’s failure to pull her album to platinum success. To date, Monica’s new album "The Making of Me" has failed to reach gold status, selling a meager 350,000 copies since it’s September release. Things are reportedly so bad at her record label, that Monica has pleaded with her fans, ala her website, MonicaOnline.com, to write her recording company and demand that they allow the ghetto Diva to shoot a third video for her new single "Sideline Ho". I can’t say that I am surprised by all of this. Monica has had opportunity after opportunity to step into the shoes of our former reigning vocalist, Whitney Houston, but has refused. Instead of giving us power ballads with the occasional up-tempo track. She’s chosen to give us bullshit, and often times, disposable songs like "So Gone", "Every Time The Beat Drop", and "Dozen Roses". She’s been so focused on "keeping it real" and "being true to herself" that her stubbornness ultimately has cost her longevity in the very unstable and fickle music industry. It looks to me like Monica has made her career choice(s) and now needs to stand by them. Every action has a reaction whether positive of negative.

OMG, I enjoy the makings of me alot, and I think it's great, I think they screwed up by marketing it edgy, kinda like how fantasia's album is marketed more edgy but if you listen to it, it's brilliant. Monica's album has gems, and sounds different, I don't understand, everyone must be so drunk and high they don't know anything.... just how the government wants us!

It is the material on the album. Although some songs are "hot"...none are hits. She really does need a makeover on her whole style....they shit she is releasing just isn't for todays industry. a la` poor record sales.

LOL Im sorry but 120k after 2 hit singles is not good, considering all factors. That is horrible. "Doin Too Much" was only a minor hit. "Walk Away" has been her big hit and considering she hasn't done a lot of TV promo and performances, 120k is not really all that bad. The CD is really selling off of word of mouth. There are still a lot of people who know the song and don't know her by name (at least out here).

Virgin is going to hell, and bankrupt... nobody will be going there... and Paula is no where near the stature and brilliance of Stacie... and Monica's CD is the shit, I can listen to the whole thing and enjoy it everytime!

This hasn't even crack'd 400,000 copies and Monica has no one but herself to blame. She insisted upon making records for the "streets", but it was such a stark contrast from her previous outtings that she lost fans. Along with Brandy, she has yet to successfully transition into the 2000s, save for the hit So Gone, and I smell an axe coming on behalf of Arista.

Monica reached out to Sandrarose.com today to address a fake internet rumor and to give us more info on her upcoming "Sideline" video shoot. According to a rumor that first surfaced on V-103's Frank & Wanda Morning Show this week, Monica was surreptitiously dropped from her recording contract at J Records. But Monica emphatically denied the rumors: "I wanted to address this rumor directly," she said. "As for me leaving the label, that is absolutely positively not true!"
Monica said she spoke with Clive Davis on the phone today. "Me and Clive always talk. He assured me today," said Monica referring to the head honcho of J Records whom she's known since she was 13. Monica said she would update her Myspace page with a new message but she called me because I reached out to her sister-in-law Kenya Hill earlier today. Monica was really concerned about her fans. "When we're recording in that box for hours and hours we tend to get detached from the fans," said Monica stressing the importance of keeping a line of communication open for her fans. "It's better [for me] to know what they want," she said. Monica expressed gratitude to the fans who signed a fan petition requesting a video for her next single "Sideline". Monica said the video will be shot in California in two weeks. After the video is out of the way she plans to continue her radio promo tour to support her album "The Makings of Me". Monica also discussed her 19-month-old baby Lil' Rock who is very aware of his internet presence. "When he saw his picture [on Sandrarose.com] he pointed and said "Ooh, that Rock!!," she laughed. Monica said Lil' Rock loves to watch himself on BET's Access Granted. I'm grateful that Monica chose my site to deliver her message to her fans. Let's show our support by buying Monica's album "The Makings of Me". Here's the contact info for J Records: Mailing Address J/RCA Music Group 745 5th Avenue 6th Floor New York, NY 10151 646.840.5729 Source

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 25, 2007
New York, NY - Monica, the multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning songstress and Clive Davis, Chairman and CEO, BMG U.S., issue a joint statement regarding the recent internet-generated rumor that she's being dropped from J Records.
"The rumors are false," states Monica and Clive Davis. "We have a very successful long-term working relationship. We have no intention of discontinuing that success and look forward to working together on future albums."

This release marks Monica's third straight Top 10 and Top 2 debut on Billboard's Top 200 and R&B charts, respectively. landed at #8 on the
Always forthright and genuine in her music, Monica's controversial new single "Sideline Ho," addresses the sticky subject matter of dealing with the "other woman." The single impacts radio on February 5 and is sure to spark more viral buzz when fans will be invited to leave their video confessions on how they've dealt with a "sideline ho" on Monica's Myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/monicamusic).
With a repertoire of hits including "Don't Take It Personal," and "Angel of Mine," Monica is preparing to perform on select tour dates with label mate Tyrese. Confirmed tour dates will be announced shortly.
