No topic for this? Anyway, I haven't picked this up yet, and was wondering what people's thoughts are on the new album.

Really? I thought I was reading a discussion about it somewhere? Maybe I was looking at the thread for the single in the alternative forum

Its a good album, they did a very good job with it. I can only see myself listening to it for a couple of weeks and then completely ignoring it though. But for the hardcore fans, it will be their favorite album of the year.

Not a hardcore fan or anything, but I think "Welcome to..." is decent, so I'm kinda on the fence about getting what will be a 'decent' album.

That's promising.... I should probably just listen for myself to decide if I want to own it.

From the soundscan thread:
<<<<My Chemical Romance checks in at No. 2 with "The Black Parade," the follow-up to its 2004 breakthrough album "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge." Fueled by the lead single "Welcome To The Black Parade," the Reprise set sold 240,000 copies, dwarfing the 38,000-unit debut week for "Three Cheers.">>>>
Strong opening... and people really love their Disney.

So, I ended up getting this.... pretty good actually, there are more good songs than I expected. What does everyone else think?

So far, are these sales better or worse than expected? And how do you think it'll end up?

I got it a few weeks back. Haven't gotten in to it yet but I did like what I've listened to so far. It took me awhile to get into Green Day too. Rock music isn't really my choice when I want something to listen to. It took me a few months to get into Green Day's CD because I didn't listen to it, not because the songs took a long time to grow on me.
I think this album will be big in 2007.

I'm a little disappointed in this choice. When I listen to it, I think it's a great song and is perfect for closing their album with (which is exactly why it does). I do not, however, hear "successful radio song" when I listen. It will do fine because of who they are and because "Welcome to the Black Parade" is such a success, but it's not the best choice they could've made for a surefire follow-up smash. By the way, the beginning of their new album reminds me of the beginning of Good Charlotte's last CD (if you skip track 1): A reasonably short mission statement song, if you will, that starts out with stripped down acoustic guitar and vocal all with a hospital life support system underneath, which reappears at the end to bleed right into the next track.

In my opinion, best disc of the year (I bought 50+ discs this year). I liked the singles from Three Cheers, but wasn't blown away by the whole album. I picked up Black Parade b/c it was on sale. I like every song on the disc (an oddity these days) and can realistically point to 6-7 songs that could be singles. Very strong and diverse. I was pleasantly surprised.

Over 800k, on its way to a million.
Also, props to them for getting a top 10 hit on the Hot 100 w/ WTTBP.

I was quite impressed with the album.... yeah, the guy's voice is a bit unique..... but, it's not too annoying on these tracks...... it's a pretty cohesive album - it's quite a ride the whole way through...
