I just hope it hasn't missed out on being the huge success it deserves to be....if it wasn't meant to be a single why film a video and do such a high profile performance of the song??!!
From The Sun online:
LEONA LEWIS has been robbed of a No1 single by a blunder which has left the singer’s team and fans furious.
The superstar was due to release her version of Run for download this week after she performed it on her return to The X Factor on Saturday.
But due to a bungle at Sony, the song has not been available online and this week’s planned internet release has been shelved.
Run was a certainty for the top spot after her performance of the SNOW PATROL hit wowed the smash ITV1 show’s huge audience.
Plans have been in place for weeks to put it out on the back of her performance and host DERMOT O’LEARY introduced it as “her new single Run”. Leona was even flown to South Africa to film an expensive video for it.
This is the second Leona release mishap this month.
When she went up against BEYONCE KNOWLES, BRITNEY SPEARS and CHRISTINA AGUILERA in a Diva Day chart battle, with all four releasing singles on November 3, the download of her track Forgive Me was released a day after her rivals’ songs.
This left her playing catch-up and Forgive Me eventually only managed No5.
A Leona insider revealed: “It’s an absolute c***-up. It was due out as a download and would have walked to No1.”
When the song was released on Irish iTunes on Sunday it soared straight to No1 and sent her website into meltdown.
One theory is label bosses realised they did not have systems in place to cope with the demand, so they pulled the plug.
Run is available on the new special edition of her album Spirit, which was in shops on Monday.
The re-release is just a few hundred copies behind DIDO’s new record Safe Trip Home in the midweek album chart.
A spokesman for Leona last night insisted: “Run has never been scheduled for release as a single. It is available on the new edition of Spirit, in stores now and digitally from December 1.”
Angry fans were yesterday claiming bosses made a U-turn on the download plan to force people to spend more cash on the physical album re-release.
My insider revealed: “If that’s the case, the Leona camp will be furious. Given the choice of a single or double No1, I know what they would have preferred.”
