This performance, trumps ANY performance by ANY female singer on American Idol/X-factor EVER. I've posted about her in the past in Mariah Threads (when she did a couple of covers) but she deserves her own thread. This b**ch will be BIG, mark my word! Leona Lewis - SummetimeThat was utterly jaw dropping, the runs were perfect, vocal master class, and the cover is without a doubt 1000X better than last years winner, tasia's cover. without a single doubt! (and i absolutely LOVED tasia's performance) she really, really reminds me of early Mariah vocally.

omg, i've really found my new obsession, that girl can reach the crazy mimi-note. Check out her cover of Minni Ripperton's "Loving You" cover on her Myspace.com www.myspace.com/leonalewis

She is a good singer but tends to over do things
Simon has overhyped her though and I think it very unlikely that the british public vote her the winner

I adore her, I really hope she makes it through to the final. This Saturday coming is ABBA week, I wonder which song she will pick? I think she could do a really good job of "The Winner Takes It All".

Also, I agree that her cover of "Loving You" is beautiful, and I love that she is so down to earth and humble.
With regard to the Mariah similarities, I totally agree. Leona is a big Mariah fan, and lists "Can't Let Go" as her favourite song ever. She even has early Mariah's hairstyle, and uses a few similar gestures when performing.

Leona's performance tonight was stunning as always! She sung 'Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word', and Simon commented that her vocals were "world class".

"Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word" is one of my all time fav Elton john song .. i'm EXTREMELY excited to see what she does with it. I watch the show on Sunday because thats when it's up on easynews and i can download it. please don't ruin the results. i REALLY really hope she sings a Mariah song. she's already sun "I'll Be There". "Vanishing" would be a fantastic choice for her and i have no doubt she can get the vocals right on!! whats the theme next week?

You know how some people have the gift to imitate? Her version of "Loving You" is a straight copy if minnie rippleton's and sounds exactly like it....good, I love that song. Summertime is a lullaby and I can't think of any child who'd be able to sleep to her version.
However, she can sing and has a voice that most will like.
Was she barefoot while singing summertime? I couldn't tell. ALso, are there any other good singers competing against her on the show? I don't get x-factor.

next weeks theme= no.1's of 2006 man oh man ... here's comes her version of "We Belong Together" .. i think i would buy a plane ticket from Canada all the way to the land of yellow teeth JUST to see that lol Was she barefoot while singing summertime? I couldn't tell. ALso, are there any other good singers competing against her on the show? I don't get x-factor. It's MUCH better than American Idol. this is how it works, 3 Judges each has one category: 16-24, 25+ & Groups (Simon Cowell - 16-24, Sharon Osbourne - 25+ & other dude - Groups). Each Select 4 contestants to go on the show and Judges coach them & pick the songs. Every Episode, The public chooses who they like and the lowest 2 perform their songs again and the judges pick kick one of the two out. The Other GREAT Thing about the show is that there is no Xanax-stuffed-drunk-ass-high-as-a-kit-Paula to drool & slober all of the boys.

I think that she could do a great version of "Deja Vu". Something tells me that she might do "I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair)" however, which would be a terrible choice since the song was overplayed and overused at the auditions...

These are the possible choices for next week ... I can't see any of them suiting her. I doubt it, When they did the #1 songs on American Idol, they choose #1st from any chart. (i.e. R&B, Urban, Pop, Etc...) not just the country's #1s. she'll have other options as well. i think she might do a beyonce uptempo simply because she has yet to sing an uptempo

WoW. She's simply amazing. One of the biggest voices right now. Saddly, she won't get any success in USa, unless she colaborates with some rapper

She needs to do an uptempo. At least that's what the other male judge was saying.
"Summertime" and "Loving You" were great as well as "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". She just needs to improve more in her stage presence and connecting with the audience.
She would be almost perfect if her voice wasn't as thin as it is, but she still sounds great. It will be interesting to see how she's going to be marketed once she signs a contract deal which she is sure to do.

According to The Sun newspaper, the winner of X Factor will record a cover version of Kelly Clarkson's "Moment Like This"?! www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,11050-2006540077,00.html

Are they so lacking in creativity and songwriters that they must recycle old tunes (AI or otherwise) to keep the show running? If Leona has to sing this one, it will kill her career before it gets off the ground! She might be better off losing.

I do agree that a new song would be better, but the thing is...not a lot of people in the UK are overly familiar with Kelly's version of "Moment like this" and think it could potentially do very well over here (Kelly's first MAJOR hit was "Since U Been Gone" in the UK - albeit miss Independent did quite well). If you want to hear some original Leona material, she has a song called "Breath" on her myspace site www.myspace.com/leonalewis(along with the "Loving You" cover)
