A lot of people like the song, but radio isn't responding. It's baldly evident that something is horribly wrong with the Pop format when an innovative pop song like this can't get played. I'm sorry - the rest of the world has responded favorably. As usual, the US falls into the role of the dumb and stubborn big sibling. When we pass up opportunities like this, I can't help but wish for the complete & speedy demise of the mainstream music outlets in this country. It's beyond repair, apparently. The xenoEUROphobia of Americans is embarassing.
P.S. Save your bile & enmity, haters. I don't care.

Didn't "Smile" just debut this week on the Hot 100 @ #83? And the song doesn't even go for adds until next month.

"Crack Whore" is a demo/mash up. And if you want any of her rarities, go to the bottom of page 5. Yes, I forgot to thank you for that one. Thank you! LOL.

Yeah, let's not give up on "Smile" yet. It does in fact go for adds next month at Pop. She has definitely created a great amount of buzz and I'm doing my part by introducing her to as many people as I possibly can.
Oh and thanks to oscillations for some of those tracks that I didn't have. And yes, Girls Aloud are indeed saving pop music lol. It's unfortunate that it took so long for me to give them a chance.

Billboard.com:
ARTIST: LILY ALLEN
SINGLE: SMILE (Capitol Records)
Lily Allen topped the U.K. single charts last July with "Smile," a song that sounds on the surface like a happy reggae-splashed ditty -- but lyrically it's about the guilty pleasure of seeing her cheating ex suffer ("When you left me, I was wanting more/But you were f***ing that girl next door/When I see you cry/It makes me smile"). Although her lyric has been cleaned up to "f-ing" for the radio version, the 21-year-old has an audacious rep as anything but a squeaky-clean pop star. Of course, it comes down to the song --and while reggae is a tough sell in the States, Capitol is building on enormous MySpace presence, along with support from MTV, "Saturday Night Live" and "Conan O'Brien." Top 40 might start looking for a sound shake-up, and Allen's hip template is certainly a contender.

If 'Smile' fails to do well, I can see them releasing 'Littlest Things' since it's the most pop-friendly song on the record.

I kinda liked being the only one who knew her. Haha. Oh well. Speaking of which, today my friend told me, "I'M GETTING INTO THIS GIRL LILY ALLEN! SHE'S THIS UK SENSATION AND I THINK SHE'S.." Eh, haha.

Puppets should be used far more often in pop music videos.

I think "LDN" could be the next US single (since she performed it on SNL, although that definitely isn't indicative in every case). I'm going to try to meet her on Saturday after the show. I hope my camera will work

I think "Smile" is gonna crack the top-40 here. It's just offbeat yet radio-friendly enough to do it.

It's more than that. It's a fantastic, clever, nearly-perfect pop album.

Lily Allen Makes Us Smile The British singer speaks out on her feisty music, her troubled past, and the pressure to make it big in the United States. Oh yeah, and Britney Spears!
By Aaron Parsley Feb 06, 2007 06:00PM EST
Lily Allen first became an "It" girl on MySpace, where, on her own, she posted some of her sweet and sassy, reggae-inspired tracks on her profile. The online buzz eventually led to a record deal (and "It" girl status) in her native U.K., where she's nominated for four 2007 Brit Awards, the British version of the Grammys (which take place Feb. 14). But will "It" happen to Lily in the United States, where her album Alright, Still was released last week -- a full seven months after it dropped back home. That remains to be seen.
"If you're really desperate for success [in the U.S.], then yeah, there is pressure. But I'm not. I happy with everything that I've succeeded up until this point," Allen tells TeenPeople.com. "There's more money coming through from my album sales in the U.K. I bought myself a house and that's kind of taken the pressure away, you know? As long as I'm stable and happy in my life, that's fine. Now, it's about other people. I'm happy to be able to make other people happy with my music."
It's a mature attitude for a young woman who confesses that she used to have a penchant for getting into trouble. TeenPeople.com chatted with the British wonder about her deliciously girl-powered album, the American Idol phenomenon, guys and her opinions on other "It" girls -- like Britney Spears.
TeenPeople.com: When did you first know that you wanted to be a singer? Lily Allen: That happened when I was about 16. I left school when I was 15, so after a year of training with it, I had to make a decision as to [whether I should] keep going -- because financially I wasn't getting anything out of it -- or to give it up and run with something else and I made the decision to keep going.
TeenPeople.com: As a student, you attended several different schools -- and said you were lonely during your teen years. What advice would you give to kids in that situation? Lily Allen: Don't rely on other people to make you happy. That's a lesson I didn't learn until very late. I thought it was because of other people that I was so unhappy, but it had a lot to do with myself. You have to find your center and realize what is making you unhappy and trying to rectify that rather than trying to change your surroundings the whole time.
TeenPeople.com: You turned to books and music -- interests that you could enjoy by yourself, right? Lily Allen: Exactly. They try to push books onto you at school, but maybe those aren't necessary the right ones for you. Go to your local library or your local bookshop and find out what interests you. Go buy some music.
TeenPeople.com: You also turned to some other things that got you into trouble. What were you up to? Lily Allen: Drinking, smoking, kind of dabbling in weed and stuff when I was probably 14 or 15. I just wasn't a happy kid. But I'm happy now.
TeenPeople.com: You must get a lot of guys trying to get your number. Is that flattering? Lily Allen: I don't, actually. I've been in a relationship for two years now and when you're in a relationship you kind of have that air about you. People kind of stay away. Actually, my assistant, Emily, travels everywhere with me and says I'm really, really bad at knowing when guys are coming on to me.
TeenPeople.com: That should be part of her job description, to alert you. Lily Allen: Yeah, it's becoming that. Just to drag me away from them and say, "He's not trying to be your friend!"
TeenPeople.com: Is your boyfriend back in England? Lily Allen: Yeah. It's hard but he's coming over on Friday to see me. It's kind of nice being away from each other because you don't have so much of the arguments and when you do see each other it's more special.
TeenPeople.com: Your album has been getting great reviews, but not everyone loves the swipes you take in your lyrics -- calling out your ex-boyfriend and taking on pushy girls. Some have said it's negative. Lily Allen: English humor and American humor differ in that a lot of what I'm saying is quite sarcastic. I'm not trying to be negative. I'm trying to say be positive in a funny way and to make it more entertaining. There's nothing more boring to me than saying the words "love" and "baby" 50 times throughout the song.
TeenPeople.com: What do you make of American Idol or the British show X-Factor? Lily: It's really sad that that's what music has come to, because I don't really see them as music shows. I see them as TV shows with people covering songs. It doesn't have anything to do with musicianship because it's not writing. Music is an art form and it's not something just to be messed around with and made money out of. There are lots of people out there who have been working for years and years, really putting a lot of blood and guts into it. So for people to come along and just because they've got nice boobs and a nice haircut and kind of do some vocal acrobatics, they take a place in the music industry. It's very sad.
TeenPeople.com: You've been labeled an 'It' girl so we were wondering what you thought of some of the others that share that title. What do you think of Jessica Simpson? Lily: I'm definitely not into her music.
TeenPeople.com: Paris Hilton? Lily: No comment.
TeenPeope.com: How about Beyoncé? Lily Allen: I love Beyoncé. She's great. She's a really amazing singer. And if she does write all of those songs, she's an amazing songwriter as well.
TeenPeople.com: Sienna Miller? Lily: I don't know. There's something not likeable about her. I don't know what it is.
TeenPeople.com: What about Posh and Becks moving to Los Angeles? Lily: Good. As long as they are out of my country.
TeenPeople.com: And finally, what do you think of Britney Spears? Lily: Um… I think she's very entertaining.

Nice interview! I admit I initially hated her, but I've come to love her brutal honesty. I disagree with some of her views (esp. the Madonna-related ones), but her music is just awesome.
