The Rentals announce LA residency
They begin work on new album

The Rentals have announced the details of a four-week residency at Spaceland in Los Angeles this summer.

The band will perform at the home of Club NME Los Angeles with Fred Perry Subculture every Saturday night in July (7, 14, 21, 28).

The band, founded by former Weezer bassist Matt Sharp, are currently in Los Angeles writing, rehearsing and preparing to record their third studio album, which they plan to release later this year. It will be their first album since 1999's 'Seven More Minutes'.

Speaking about the new material, Sharp recently told Under The Radar: "When we step out on stage doing what we're doing now, it feels absolutely correct. It feels honest, and I feel like I know where I am."

I was a big fan of the 'Return Of The Rentals' album, and especially the "Friends of P" single. I won't carry huge expectations for this one, but I'll keep an ear out.

The Rentals announce first new material in eight years
'The Last Little Life EP' is out in August

The Rentals have announced the release of a brand new EP, set to be released in August.

'The Last Little Life EP' includes three new songs 'Last Romantic Day', 'Little Bit Of You In Everything', and 'Life Without A Brain' and was mixed by the producer / engineer Joe Chiccarelli who previously worked with The Shins and The White Stripes. A fourth song on the EP is a reworking of their track 'Sweetness And Tenderness'.

Meanwhile the band are working on a brand new album which is expected to be released early next year.

As previously reported here, the band are gearing up for a 44-date tour of the US kicking off at the end of June. They will launch a daily video blog from the road, the rehearsals, the studio, the tour bus, backstage and on stage

The blog will allow the band to share their day-to-day activities with fans directly from their camera phones to their newly created customized 'Rentals 'YouTube Channel' the band's Myspace page and their official website.

The EP debuted at #8 on the Top Heatseekers (West North Central) chart last week.

From all of us in The Rentals we wish all of our friends a very happy new year!

We have been spending the past few months writing new music and listening to the lo-fi recordings of our new song rehearsals. I believe these new songs could be truly our best yet. We are all incredibly excited to start working on the new album at the beginning of 2008.

Dan and I have recently recorded a kind of directors commentary for Snapvine. It is a behind the scenes voice over where we talk about some of our memories of recording "The Last Little Life E.P." We also stopped by Feel My Heat on Indie 103.1 to talk with Danny Masterson about the last tour, the new album; in addition to talking about what it was like for me to work with Tegan And Sara on their latest album The Con.

The Rentals would also like to send a big congratulations to our good friend Joe Chicarelli. Joe mixed the first three songs on our "Last Little Life E.P." and he was recently nominated for multiple Grammy's for his work with The Shins and The White Stripes.
