NMEMorrissey to enter Eurovision? The former Smith is in 'talks' for 2007 contestMorrissey is reportedly in talks with the BBC about the possibility of writing the UK's next E urovision Song Contest entry. It is also possible the star, who has previously worked with former Eurovision winner Sandie Shaw, could also perform the track at the 2007 contest in Helsinki, Finland, according to BBC NEWS. As first reported on NME.COM, the singer declared his interest in entering the competition after the UK's poor placing in last year's event. "I was horrified but not surprised to see the UK fail...why didn't they ask me?" asked Morrissey during his residency at the London Palladium in May. In recent years, the UK has not performed well in the contest, and have not won the event since 1997. Daz Sampson's 'Teenage Life', the UK's entry in 2006, finished fifth from bottom. In 2003, the UK's song 'Cry Baby', performed by Jemini, received no points during the competition. =======================//========================== If this is true, it shows Stephen Patrick Morrissey still hasn't lost it!

There are obviously some people who want him badly to do this. Or else I wouldn't bee seeing this in the website of the TV station that represents his entry. ===================================//========================== BBC NewsHow do you write a Eurovision hit?Morrissey may have to sit down and try to write a Eurovision hit. Is there a formula he should follow?Previous winners include Love Shine a Light, Fly on the Wings of Love and Take Me to Your Heaven. The man hoping to emulate them has penned Girlfriend in a Coma, Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now, Interesting Drug and We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful. In one of music's most unlikely collaborations, the BBC has confirmed that Morrissey, known for his bleak satire, could represent the UK at the altar of high camp - the Eurovision Song Contest. The corporation is in talks with the former singer of The Smiths, the Mancunian band which influenced a generation. His legion of fans are still digesting the news, some with disgust, although their votes could be needed in the preliminary televised round that has in the past cast glamour model Jordan aside. Even allowing for Morrissey's love of the absurd, how one of the industry's most respected lyricists will conform to a format that crowned Diggi Loo-Diggi Ley, Ding Dinge Dong and Boom Bang-A-Bang as winners is an intriguing question. And if Morrissey is looking for a template to follow, then he needs to provide some key ingredients, according to music expert Dr Harry Witchel. His analysis of 50 years of Eurovision winners suggested that pace and rhythm, an easily memorable song, a perfect chorus, a key change, a clearly defined finish and a dance routine are part of a successful recipe. "Morrissey has a strong tradition of heartfelt music and I wouldn't be surprised if he went towards the balladic style," he says. "A lot of the dance stuff has an element of 'cheese' and I don't think he'll go down that road. "Based on his most popular canon of work, he could find himself forced to do a ballad and he could pull that off." 'Be distinctive'But Bill Martin, who wrote the UK's first winner in 1967 for Sandie Shaw, said the only formula is to be different. "Puppet on a String was like a salmon swimming up the river. It had to be different. This was 1967, the year of flower power, Sergeant Peppers and A Whiter Shade of Pale. "We wanted to do long notes, like a circus song. It had to be concise, in the sense that it wasn't over-orchestrated. The bassoon was totally different. "But I can't see how Morrissey is going to be different. He's too old and he's not original." Eurovision is no longer just about a song, he says. It is a dancing and video extravaganza which would be unsuitable for Morrissey. There would be a certain symmetry to Morrissey trying to emulate the feat of Shaw exactly 40 years later. She was a childhood hero of his, who duetted with him on several Smiths songs. ThreatsAnd his followers claim he is not as miserable as the media paint him, and that his wit and charisma are overlooked. He did remark last year, after Daz Sampson failed to greatly trouble the scoreboard, that he should have been asked to write the UK entry, but it was a comment interpreted as tongue-in-cheek. One fan has threatened to sell his collections if Morrissey enters the contest, while others believe he can take something as hackneyed as Eurovision and give it a new dimension. And the sense of novelty that recent winners have brought to the contest - transsexuality, death rock - means there could be the appetite for a new twist.

Morrissey=Katie Price AKA Jordan 2007?
Let's just hope they come up with someone better than Javine to steal the thunder at the last second this time.
Supposedly the UK is taking France's and Spain's lead and launching a huge campaign for this year's Eurovision, so I would love to see a good result.

That's pretty much where I fit in. I've never given a rat's arse about Eurovision, but if Moz enters, at least I'll have someone to root for.

MTV EuropeJarvis to write Eurovision entry?Jarvis Cocker has offered to write Britain's Eurovision Song Contest entry next year following the surprise news fellow indie icon Morrissey may be writing 2007's effort. The former Pulp lead singer says he has always wanted to try his fey hand at reversing Britain's recent dismal record, and has voiced his support for Morrissey's shock move into the kitsch musical jamboree. He told BBC radio station Five Live, "I'm not going to compete with Mozza if he's going to do it. I'm sure he'll write something good. "The door is always open if they want to ask me. I've always wanted to write one for them. Maybe I'll do it next year." Following the news today that Cocker's debut solo album had secured a BRITS nomination in the 'Best Male' category, Jarvis promised their would be no repeat of his drunken performance at the event in 1996 when his impromptu 'stage invasion' during Michael Jackson's risible performance of 'Earth Song' saw him ejected and arrested. He vowed, "They won't have to manacle me to a chair. I'll be well ===============================//=============================== Now this should be interesting to follow.

Morrissey Picks Eternal Resting SpotFebruary 8, 2007 Mopey Moz hopes to rest in peace alongside Johnny Ramone. Further establishing his throne as the king of mope, Morrissey has chosen a location to be buried, U.K.'s The Daily Express reports. Moz is reportedly seeking a plot near that of Johnny Ramone at Los Angeles celebrity cemetery Hollywood Forever. "I like that cemetery. I stumbled across Johnny Ramone's stone and thought it was very nicely placed," he told The Daily Express. "I sat there for a long time and I felt quite good about it. It was nice his bones were under the soil I was sitting on. So yeah, that's my spot." Morrissey, who is considering putting money down to reserve the plot, relayed to the paper he approaches the subject of mortality sincerely. "Death is a serious thing, certainly not to be sneezed at," he said. We won't have to wait to hear Mozzer's final a-choo to know what his epitaph will read, as the singer revealed he doesn't want anything poetically elegizing his career: "I want nothing other than name, birth date, death date."

www.nme.com/news/morrissey/26614Morrissey says 'no' to EurovisionThe Smith will not be taking partMorrissey has finally answered to the rumours and confirmed that he will not be taking part in this year's Eurovision Song Contest. At the beginning of the year the BBC made a surprise announcement that they had been in talks with the former frontman with The Smiths. It was looking likely that Morrissey may enter the competition, representing the UK in Helsinki. A BBC Eurovision spokesperson was quick to dampen suggestions that the former Smith would take part, telling The Independent: "We were in discussions with him and other artists, and he had been genuinely interested, but the timing wasn't right." They added the singer may have been put off by the public vote that chooses the UK's entry.

Morrissey Announces American TourTrue to his depressive persona, Morrissey will spend the summer mostly indoors, and mostly in the dark. From late April through at least the end of June, Moz will woo these great United States on a gargantuan tour, according to Morrissey authority True to You. Interestingly, he's sidestepping Coachella in order to play a casino in Sparks, Nevada. Oh, Morrissey! Only the western half of the tour has been announced so far, save for June 30 date at Madison Square Garden. Look for the rest of the dates to be filled in later in the week. Kristeen Young will open all shows. Kristeen Young! I still remember when I met her three years ago. I was working (well, doing some odd stuff, more likely) to this magazine, which is better known for an electronic music and audiovisual arts festival they hold every year (and which is flopping harder and harder every year; I could tell you all about the unbelievable shit that happened that same year when I was working in the organization, but we don't want to be here all day! ). But I digress. At the time, the owners were also trying their hand at a record label. And surprise, surprise, guess who they were releasing? Kristeen, of course. She came here for a series of concerts to promote the album, and she was what I can only describe as the most humble and nicest of people you will ever know. And it must be noted that she's the considerably younger wife of famous David Bowie producer Tony Visconti. Now here's the best part of all this, and the only scoop I'll give you. One of the very reasons why she was signed and all these shows were arranged had to do with the fact that my bosses were trying to bring Bowie to the festival. That's right, pure vested interest. Well guess what? He didn't come. And he wasn't the only one not bothering to show up. But he at least was never officially announced for the lineup, so that wasn't as tragic as other cancellations. But let's not even get there, for as I already said, I'd be here all day.

Very interesting story! To be honest, until that scoop, I didn't know jack sh!t about Kristeen Young, other than probably seeing her name in print or online at some point during the past few years. Opening for Moz is a good enough excuse for me to look her up.

www.nme.com/news/morrissey/29288Morrissey quits 5,000 capacity Boston show after 30 minutes And he pulls further two shows this week 27.Jun.07 4:01pm Morrissey ended his show after 30 minutes at the Bank Of America Pavillion in Boston last night having played just seven songs. The ex-Smiths man is suffering a throat infection and despite making it through seven songs - including 'The Queen Is Dead' and 'The Last Of The Famous International Playboys' - he couldn't complete his planned set. During the intro to 'National Front Disco' the singer told the audience that he was ill saying "unfortunately it will not just be the emotions cracking tonight but my voice as well." After struggling through three more songs, he was forced to call it a night. The singer has been told by doctors he must not sing for three days, resulting in the cancellation of a show tonight in Northampton, MA and Friday's show in Philadelphia. So far, Saturday's show at New York's Madison Square Garden is expected to go ahead as planned.

Morrissey resumes US tour and reschedules datesBoston will get to see a full show this time Morrissey will resume his tour of the US this evening with a performance at the Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA. The singer had been suffering from a viral throat infection which caused him to quit a show in Boston last week (June 26) after just seven songs. Under advice from doctors, the former Smiths man then cancelled the remaining shows for the week including one at Madison Square Garden in New York. The Boston show has been rescheduled and will take place this Saturday (July 7), with further dates to be announced for the rescheduled shows in New York, Philadelphia and Northampton. Tickets for all the shows, including Boston, will be honoured at the rescheduled shows.

And, before the throat infection drama: Morrissey Mulling Warner Bros. DealJonathan Cohen, N.Y. Morrissey is mulling a deal with Warner Bros. to release his next studio album, the artist said during a fan Q&A on the True to You Web site. The former Smiths frontman has issued his two prior albums on the Attack imprint via Sanctuary, which announced earlier this year it was reverting to a largely catalog-driven label. Morrissey recorded for the Warner Bros. family from 1988-1995; a return to the company would presumably allow for a new stream of compilations and archival releases. "I presently have the option to tour for the remainder of 2007, or start a new album," he said on True to You. "I don't have a deal, but I have an offer from Warner Brothers. At the same time, there are some great touring offers -- New Zealand, South Africa, my beloved Scandinavia, Israel and Iran. I would love to sing in Tehran." The artist is presently touring in North America and will premiere a new song, "That's How People Grow Up," during a taping tonight (June 25) for CBS' "Late Show With David Letterman." The episode will air on Friday. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Album, please!

It's a free gig and it's open to the public, so if you still haven't made holiday plans, there you go. Tickets for tonight's Moz gig will be honored at the rescheduled date, however. Morrissey unable to reschedule US showsVenues are unavailable for him to return Morrissey has been unsuccessful in attempts to reschedule shows in several US cities following recent cancellations. The former Smiths frontman was forced to cancel shows in a number of east coast locations over the past few weeks due to a viral throat infection. He has managed to play rescheduled shows in Boston and Norfolk, and will hit Philadelphia (July 23) and Atlantic City (24) but other affected cities will not be re-visited this time around. Shows at New York's Madison Square Garden, Holmdel, NJ, Northampton, MA, New Jersey's PNC Bank Arts Center and Baltimore, MD are not available for the singer to play on this outing, and it is expected that another US leg will be added to the tour in the fall, in order to cover the cities. Morrissey will this week play shows in Knoxville,TN, Clearwater, FL, Boca Raton, FL and Orlando, FL.

Opening Act Booted From Morrissey TourEvie Nagy, N.Y. Experimental rock duo KRISTEENYOUNG has been fired as the supporting act for Morrissey's current U.S. tour. The dismissal stems from remarks made by frontwoman Kristeen Young on stage during Tuesday's show at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, according to a statement posted on the group's MySpace page. "Unfortunately, the statement has been perceived as being profane (when, actually, one of the two words in question is a scientific term found in junior high, health class text books, and the other word, I feel most would agree, is lightweight slang) or defamatory. What I said was part of a thread of stage statements I made throughout our set," writes Young. According to reports at morrissey-solo.com, some audience members were chanting "Morrissey" during Young's set, to which she replied, "Morrissey gives good head, I mean, er, cunnilingus..." "[The statements] were metaphorical and overstated to make an artistic point," writes Young. "The 'offending' statement, in particular, was in no way a literal statement, and was very much in keeping with the tone of my writing in general. I reach for beauty and intelligence in my lyrics, but try to retain a bit of the everyday in them. Maybe the statement was a bit TOO everyday. Maybe I misjudged... but I meant no harm. I love Morrissey with all of my heart, soul, body, spirit, to the core of my existence and always will." KRISTEENYOUNG has supported Morrissey for many of the 170 shows on the tour since March 2006, including all U.S. dates in 2007. As of the Oct. 26 show, the new opener will be San Antonio rock outfit Girl In A Coma, named after one of the Smiths' most famous songs. Representatives for Morrissey declined to comment on the change.

Morrissey Reveals Greatest Hits Details, Bonus CD Moz freaks given chance to shine in Greatest Hits adThe man they call Moz has accrued quite a catalog of hits since his days fronting the Smiths. But don't take our word for it, just scope the tracklist for Morrissey's latest Greatest Hits set printed below.
