I used to be a huge Toni B fan an still like her, but I feel part of the reason she's lost her clout in the industry is because she's taken too long between projects and she doesn't do a lot of promotion herself. I also think she doesn't have the drive that is needed to survive in the music industry today. I was very surprised to see her at the New Year's thing. I didn't believe it was Toni at first because she hasn't been seen around at all and hasn't had music to promote in the last two years. If she spent more time promoting Libra or even More Than A Woman instead of complaining of how Beyonce and Jay-Z were stealing food from her kids' plates, or how so and so screwed her over in the past and how everyone hates her, she would get somewhere. You have to forget your past, give everything your full effort, and start afresh. You need to promote, maintain touch with your fanbase, be in the media in a positive light sporadically so you aren't forgotten, and find the right balance between beinginvolved in your project so it is a reflection of you and finding the right professional help / management / PR. You need to pretend like every project is your be-all end-all to just survive. Look at how much effort Christina put towards Back To Basics, or how creative Justin was with FutureSexLovesounds. I don't think she has the will power to pull a comeback, and frankly, I don't think whitney does either. Believe it or not, I think that of the people of that generation, Janet still has a chance because she hasn't disappeared completely and the girl works hard. If she gets too fat again tho and can't lose the wait, she's in for trouble as well. Please and Hit The Freeway were both really hot tracks IMO... with the right promotion, they would have been a smash. I do agree that Blackground was largely to blame, but she should have been smarter signing on to a smaller label and she was also partly to blame for the poor promotion. If Blackground or whoever got her a NYE spot this year, they could have done it when she released Libra. She was probably too lazy, and was probably inspired by Mariah, Janet and others coming back to think she could just release something and go coasting up the charts. I mean especially since she claimed she got screwed the first time around by LaFace and was "broke". If she was blaming LaFace and Arista for her previous woes, why didn't she shop smartly as a veteran in the industry? I mean look how smartly Mariah played her cards... She got $56 mil just from Glitter, and still managed to sign a lucrative deal with Def Jam. I love Toni, but she needs to smarten up a bit, and realize that no LA Reid-like manager will come and turn her into a superstar again. She has the power to do it, but needs to find the right team and give it 100% of her committment. She has a family now, and I get the sense that she is a very good, nurturing mother from what I've read. Her top priority is really elsewhere and I sense that she's moreso in the industry still for the money. Her heart is in the wrong place, and she's not making her moves like her survival depended on it. I think if she gets the $10m, she might just fade away. It would be great to see her make a comeback since I do like her quite a bit, but I just don't think it will happen, unless she gets really lucky. I agree with alot of what u said, especially what I bolded. I think you summed it up nicely. I think Toni is used to just having success happen to her in the early days. All she had to do was show up and sing and everybody else made the decisions for her, but today she cant be that way. She has got to want it more than anyone else an dwork her ass off for it and be smart about it. Its survival of the fittest.

Oh well, during the MORE THAN A WOMAN promo she was pregnant...I don't think she could have done that much...and,btw,I LOVED the fact that she complained about that "Me and my boyfriend" matter,no matter if she was right or not(to me she was right)...not just because you're JAY-Z and Beyonce, then you're allowed to do ANYTHING and nobody has to complain

Very well said nitro777 Toni needs to have the driven and the desire to go and make a comeback, not just wait for it to happens. Perhaps she has lost her shot already, but whenever I put 'LIBRA' to play, I know that that sort of record would be a hit if properly promoted. 'Please', 'Trippin' could be huge, they are the sort of songs radio loves to embrace but she was damaged by being in a label that didnt really give her much love. Still, I think and hope she can make a comeback. However has been at her shows @ Flamingo or at the LIBRA tour has seen and confirmed she can still rock the house down and make great performances. I know the NYE one was one big mess, but her voice and everything is still there, just needs to be put out by someone Just in case anyone would like to see how her voice IS there and she can use it when she wants. take a look at this song which IMO could have done to her what WBT did for Mariah, on a performance done last year > www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jSLVcjJhsg

Feb 14, 4:28 AM EST Singer Toni Braxton Settles Lawsuit
NEW YORK (AP) -- Singer Toni Braxton has settled her multimillion-dollar lawsuit against her former personal manager, representatives of both parties said.
Under the settlement, the artist is free to pursue new projects following her return of a $375,000 advance to manager Barry Hankerson, Braxton representative Michael Sitrick said Tuesday.
Hankerson had previously demanded an additional $1 million to provide the singer with only a partial release from her contract, Sitrick said.
A Hankerson attorney, Samuel Chilakos, disputed that description of the settlement, saying that he was unaware of a demand for additional funds and that the agreement limits the companies with which Braxton can work.
Braxton would be responsible for paying royalties from her next album to Hankerson, both parties said.
Braxton's lawsuit claimed that Hankerson owed her at least $10 million for dirty dealing that caused her to abandon a long relationship with Arista Records for Blackground Records, the manager's record label.
The suit accused the manager of putting his financial interests ahead of Braxton's and inducing the singer to leave a lucrative deal with Arista through fraud, deception and double-dealing.
Hankerson on Tuesday disputed those allegations.
"She was dropped from Arista because of record sales," he said, adding that Braxton did not want to move to Blackground Records but "there was nowhere else for her to go."
He said his relationship with the singer soured because of her insistence that she involve her husband in her albums.

Oh shit, what a big mess I just wished Toni would be at a decent label - big or small, but that would give her guidance and proper promote her albums. Libra was a great record, the issue was with the way Blackground handled it.

So she sued them and now she ends up owing them money? The irony. lmao. thats not how it works. They probably owed her money and she was under contract (and would have to pay them % off whatever she makes on her next project(s)) ... this is the settlement!

In the meantime, the Essential Toni Braxton (double album) hits shelves later this month. What's the point?!? Ultimate TB summed things up fine.

Has anyone seen her performance at the NBA halftime this Sunday? She sung 'You're Making Me High' and 'Take This Ring', wow I loved I have to say. I still dont get why she keeps on singing everything in that breathy way when she has sung 'Please' and 'Trippin' on the normal way and sounded AWESOME Anyway, the Take This Ring performance was HAWT, shame the song enver made as a single properly, the routine was great and she looked damn fine aswell. Well she should have sung it louder but still it was a great preview of her Vegas set. I loved her saying before starting 'TTR' "alright las vegas, yall ready to have a good time? Just remember, what happens in vegas, stays in vegas"Go Toni

I thought she looked phenomenal and sounded horrible. I am pulling for her.
It is too bad that Libra didn't catch on because TTR had hit written all over it. The song is fiyah.

"Take This Ring" is probably one of the worst songs of 2005, I can't believe she recorded that crap.

It is a shame that probably 99.9% of the people there thought that "Take This Ring" is a new song.... Libra had some really good songs..."That the way love works (Trippin)" Was my jam for months... So true. I have libra since the moment it was released and that album refuses to get old. Just like you said 'Trippin' is one amazing song, I LOVE it and it should've been a BIG hit.

^^ I'm also with all of you. Radios would love that song, so as 'Please' and 'Trippin' if they were properly promoted. With those 3 singles, LIBRA would be a 1million + selling album without a doubt!
But damn, Take This Ring went off really unnoticed :( 55.865 overall audience to date. Same goes for 'Trippin', which had to date 75.096
SHAME!
