NMEKate Nash album brought forwardDebut to be released five weeks earlyKate Nash has brought forward the release of her debut album by five weeks, following her recent chart success. Her single 'Foundations' has been at Number Two for two weeks, only being kept from the top spot by Rihanna's 'Umbrella'. The debut - also rumoured to be called 'Foundations' - will now be released on August 6 instead of in September. The record was produced by Bloc Party and The Long Blondes producer Paul Epworth. According to a statement " Kate has literally just finished the album but wants to deliver it to her fans as soon as possible".

I like her, yet I don't, but she has good songs floating around. I saw her compared to Lily Allen, which is really not so much the case, I guess...

I like her, yet I don't, but she has good songs floating around. I saw her compared to Lily Allen, which is really not so much the case, I guess... I think it's because "Foundations" is a very Lily Allen-esque song. The voice sounds a bit different, but when I heard "Foundations" for the first time if I had been told it was sung by Lily I would be none the wiser. Unfortunately, I've only heard that song from her, but I never heard any good things about "Caroline is a Victim."

I have to admit that the heavy British accent made me think it was Lily too at first, LOL, but listening to her other songs I hear the difference. Anyway, I still don't understand if the album is called "Foundations" or if it is self-titled. More songs here: hypem.com/search/kate%20nash/1/

NMEKate Nash reveals album titleAnd could the singer be about to end Rihanna chart reign?Kate Nash has revealed that the title of her debut will be 'Made Of Bricks'. As previously reported, the release date of the album has been brought forward five weeks to August 6, due to her recent single chart success. Explaining the meaning behind the title a spokesperson for Nash said: "The title represents her strong connection with her family. She felt that everyone around her was like family while she made this album." The single 'Foundations', which has hovered at the Number Two position under Rihanna's 'Umbrella', is now ahead in the midweeks for Sunday's (July 29) countdown.

I like Foundations. Very Lily Allen yet I still expect something different from her.

^ I still don't get the Lily Allen comparisons, Kate is folkish-leaning to my ears, while Lily is more soul-influenced...

Kate Nash - 'Made Of Bricks'Released on 06/08/07 Label: Fiction It's the British spirit that if something appears to be a good, fun and widely celebrated, we are suspicious. So, presented with a genuine, shiny, sparky pop star like Kate Nash, armed with the selling power to almost dislodge Rihanna's bloody "Umbrella"-ella-ella from Number One, rather than applaud her gallop to success, we're tempted to look a gift horse in the mouth. Don't be, because this is one filly that bites. From that fantastic line in "Foundations" ("You said I must eat so many lemons 'cause I am so bitter / I said I'd rather be with your friends mate, 'cause they are much fitter") to the delicate, witty exploration of everyday female neuroses on "We Get On", Nash weds jazzy sunshine pop with bitchy, funny and heartfelt lyrics. However, she's more indebted to Nellie McKay, Lauryn Hill and (heavily) NYC anti-folk kookmistress Regina Spektor than to her most frequent comparison, Lily Allen. As the oh-so-hilarious internet swipe "LDN Is A Victim" proved, both she and Lily are an easy target for snipers who would dismiss them as debutante dilettantes, adopting bit-of-rough accents and playing with a pop career. Cack-handed inverted snobbery of the worst kind, of course, based on a decades-redundant stereotype of 'middle class' as people called Jemima and Tarquin, who speak in cut-glass accents and don't swear, get angry or get drunk. There's nothing not to celebrate in sarcastic, playful, unashamedly girlish (real girlish) tracks like "Sh*t Song" or "Dickhead". If you're tired of the idea that for female "empowerment" in pop means aggressive sexuality, it's refreshing to see young women like Kate and Lily with smart frocks but smarter mouths racing up the charts. Take "Mouthwash", which begins in celebrating ordinariness, as Kate chirps, "I use mouthwash and sometimes I floss / I've got a family and I drink cups of tea" over probably the most straightforward indie-rock on the album and ends up in being a defiant statement Sleater-Kinney wouldn't turn their noses up at: "This is my mind / And although you try to infringe you cannot confine". It's one of the most exciting debuts by a young female pop artist in ages. If occasionally it veers a wee bit too much towards the cutesy-kooky ("Mariella"'s ode to a wilful toddler) and sometimes towards Brit-school trained commerciality (see "Skeleton" or "Merry Happy"), these things will surely be ironed out in time, and for now, there's a wealth of exuberant pop moments like the glorious, R&B-ish horn-parping "Pumpkin", the witty, pretty "Birds" or the dark bunny-boiling love song "Nicest Thing". It'll take more than a huff and a puff of hypocritical sniping to blow down Kate Nash's house; made of bricks, cemented with real talent. Rating: 7/10 by Emily Mackay

There was a U.S. single released of "Foundations" on 18 September. I had no idea, but I saw copies at the bookstore earlier today.
Tracks: 1. Foundations 2. Navy Taxi 3. Caroline's a Victim 4. Habanera
I assume this means they're priming the U.S. market. Any word on an album release?

Surprised this is being released in the US. It's probably too "peculiar" for the audience there.
Where did Mouthwash peak? And is this platinum?
And The Gods Are Crazy, I now understand Kate Nash's hallmark, and it is really her folky sound as you said and those lyrical and articulation quirks.
I think, though, that her enunciation in songs is very similar to Lily's and I think that's where people get the comparisons. Another thing maybe is the parallel lyrics.

Saw it on MTV today. I still don't like her. Her voice is like the tremolo version of Lily Allen's & her lyrics make my brain bleed.

I was gonna check it out because it was 8 bucks at Newbury Comics...I figured I would buy the new Sia (whom I love) and this but I listened to it on I-Tunes and wasn't that impressed. IMO, Lily Allen is more fun, has better lyrics and much better production.

I like her. Yes, I think Lily is the better artist but Kate has some great songs, too! "Foundations", "Pumpkin Soup", and "Skeleton" are my top-3!

I have to disagree with most of you. Her debut album is really one of 2007's best.
It takes literally one or two listens and you're hooked. The album is simplistically done. She doesn't try to appear/sound wiser than her years or dumb herself down, for that matter. Lyrically, it's to the point and immediate. She knows where she's at and she knows that she's her own person, even if she still hasn't found herself at the tender age of 20.
Though the Lily Allen similarities are present, I'm not sure if everyone's aware of what they are. Besides the foul-mouthed attitude and her accent, Kate Nash appears to have a good head upon her shoulders. She's a romantic who desires love but at the same time is just fine as an independent for the time being.

I liked hearing her on MTV. I like the acoustic, soulful edge of the MTV commercials. However, the CD doesn't reflect that.
