Shania Twain and Helen Clark open new Otago walking trackShania Twain made a surprise appearance at the official opening of a tramping track across her property in the Otago high country. The track was a condition imposed on Twain and her husband when they bought the property – a case of giving something back to the community. Motatapu Track runs between Wanaka, Macetown and Arrowtown and about half of it is on Twain’s land. The diminutive singer lead the charge over a small section of the new track, closely followed by Prime Minister Helen Clark and assorted dignitaries. It was a media circus, the likes of which you seldom see in a wilderness area. In an operation of military precision, the Department of Conservation flew Twain to a picturesque part of the track for a photo opportunity. "I’m very proud," Shania Twain said. "It’s lovely. I'm enjoying myself. I'm having a great time." Twain, or Eileen Lange as she was christened, has not walked the track herself, but will do soon. Twain and record-producer husband Mark Lange have owned a sumptuous holiday home in a prime spot of the Motatapu Station since 2004. But as part of the sale, they agreed to create a public tramping track. It links Wanaka to Arrowtown. Clark enthused about the deal at historic Macetown, which is part of the track. "I think Shania Twain and her husband have set a whole new benchmark for what can be achieved with a change of ownership," Miss Clark said. "We have this wonderful new track. They've paid for the huts, the facilities." Macetown, population nil, came alive today as the visiting celebrities attracted a mob of children on a camp. High profile tramper Geoff Chapple has spent the last three days walking the track. "They've certainly come in, you know, in a good spirit," Mr Chapple said. "And it's been like that right from the start. (They) took me by chopper to show me where the huts were going to be and said 'Geoff, this track has got to be the best track'." The track opens to the public tomorrow. www.tv3.co.nz/News/NationalNe...6/Default.aspx

We've been in touch with Shania Twain's manager at Q-Prime and received a statement regarding Twain's comment suggesting she had retired from the music business.
"I am unaware of that statement," said Gayle Fines, Twain's manager. "As far as I know, she is still a client for Q-Prime and is still working on new music."
Country On-Demand's staff will be in touch with Twain's label and will work on securing more details on this developing story.

Reports vary about what Shania actually said. Some reports even say she was laughing when she made that comment. All previous reports and interviews (including the Dec. 2007 "Redbook" interview) had info. about how the writing was going for Shania's next album and stated that the cd would likely be released in 2008. I don't think that comment is anything to be worried about.

True. The official website (www.shaniatwain.com) says:
"Since Shania Twain's announcement of an upcoming album release tentatively scheduled for 2008, her official online fan club has been buzzing with activity. The club has posted photos and videos from Shania's appearance at the Academy of Country Music Awards and news has been constantly flowing into the fan club site since Shania's song "Rock This Country!" was nominated to become Hilary Clinton's official campaign song. Universal Records has also created a Shania Twain channel on YouTube that has been linked on ShaniaTwain.com and the official fan club site."

What are you talking about? Shania's not washed up. She's the H-O-T-T-E-S-T woman eva! Shania had 11 songs on the Country chart from one album. Carrie has a long ways to go to reach that one!

OMG!!!! Shania has nothing on Carrie?? LOL!
Shania hasnt had a #1 in a bit cause shes been OFF the scene. Oh people are so funny!!!
And to correct that mistake - Carrie has nothing on Shania. Carrie is NOT a WORLD RENOWN STAR like SHANIA TWAIN! ;)

The release of her CD should be a VERY big event. I cannot wait until Shania releases more music.
And there's no comparing Carrie to Shania. Though Carrie's been the star of Country music for the past couple years, nothing touches Come On Over's performance or Shania's worldwide success. 39 million copies of one album sold is nothing short of phenomenal.

Twain to come back to States, perform for Larry King galaCountry superstar Shania Twain will join friend Larry King in May to raise money for charity, it was announced today. The gala, titled "An Evening With Larry King & Friends," will be held in Washington, D.C., and is sponsored by the St. Jude Medical Foundation. The Larry King Cardiac Foundation announced that Twain will perform, along with fellow Canadian Celine Dion and country stars Tim McGraw and Wynonna Judd. Other on the bill include Stevie Wonder, Donna Summers, and Patti LaBelle. The foundation provides funding for life-saving cardiac procedures for individuals who, due to limited means or no insurance, otherwise would be unable to receive life-saving treatment. This is its twentieth year in operation. Over 425,00 Americans die of heart disease and approximately 47 million are uninsured. --COUNTRY ON-DEMANDand....Superstar songwriter Ne-Yo had Ms. Shania and Mrs. McGraw in mind when he wrote "Irreplaceable," Beyonce's biggest hit to date. He tells VH1.com, "Nobody expected it to be the phenomenon it was, it surprised everyone. For one, it crosses every boundary... and it's a song people from all walks of life can enjoy." Ne-Yo, who felt the song could be a massive country hit, favored Twain or Hill, but his co-writer suggested Knowles because he'd recently been penning tunes for her. The rest, as they say, is history. --COUNTRY ON-DEMAND

Shania needs to make this new album a huge event. I'm ready for her to show all the newbies how a superstar does things. Shania singing "Irreplaceable" would have been interesting.

I have a question for anyone who has closely followed Shania's career.
What happened to her voice when she released the Greatest Hits? I've been listening to 'Don't' and 'Part for Two' and noticed that she is singing noticably different. Its like she had a cold or something. Has anyone else noticed?

Her new album most likely will be released in November of this year, you can just look at her past releases to figure that out:
Greatest Hits: November 9th Up: November 19th Come On Over: November 4th
I wish it were sooner though I have been going through my Shania withdraws since 2005!

Greatest Hits: November 9th Up: November 19th Come On Over: November 4th Funny, right before Christmas. I always knew she was a business woman! I'm more than sure that this album will be worth the wait when it comes out. It'll probably be the album of the year.

She strained her voice on the grueling tour. There wasn't enough time to recuperate before singing the songs for the GH album. Let's hope she didn't do permanant damage. When I saw her on tour, I couldn't believe that her doctor was letting her perform. Her voice sounded like it REALLY needed rest. She really should have cancelled some appearances or at least used backing tapes.
