Music Review: Reba does 'Duets' By MICHAEL McCALL, For The Associated Press Mon Sep 17 Reba, "Duets" (MCA Nashville): As a country singer who's achieved success on television, on Broadway and as an author, Reba McEntire has arguably achieved the broadest-based success of any Nashville artist of her generation. So, naturally, an album pairing her with other singers would cover as wide a territory as the many mountains she's scaled. With "Duets," the big-voiced Oklahoma redhead does just that. Besides the expected country partners — Kenny Chesney, Faith Hill and Rascal Flatts among them — McEntire joins forces with everyone from pop stars Justin Timberlake and Kelly Clarkson to classic rocker Don Henley to veteran singer-songwriter Carole King.
To her credit, McEntire challenges herself by pairing with several strong female voices, and the settings only prove how exquisitely expressive and powerful her voice can be. She brings in Kelly Clarkson for a lush, countrified remake of "Because of You," trades verses with LeAnn Rimes on the emotional tour-de-force "When You Love Someone Like That," then matches up perfectly with Trisha Yearwood on the moody "She Can't Save Him," the latter about a lover realizing she can't make her partner stop destroying himself unless he recognizes his problem.
Still, the best moments are more subtle, as when Ronnie Dunn of Brooks & Dunn waltzes with her through the twangy "Does the Wind Still Blow in Oklahoma?" and when yet another Okie, Vince Gill, brings out McEntire's tender side on "These Broken Hearts."
CHECK OUT THIS TRACK: McEntire's hurricane of a voice might seem an odd match for Don Henley's ethereal tenor, but the two sound exquisite on "Break Each Other's Hearts Again," which sounds more like an Eagles cut than anything the country star has previously performed.

I like this CD. As with so many of Reba's songs, which always seem to tell a story, I can see the video potential for pretty much every song on the CD. I like the song with JustinTimberlake, but I think it's a stretch to call it a duet. Seeing the Oprah performance could change my mind. Has any video of that surfaced yet?

I love this CD! it's fantastic!
I love esp the Justin/Reba song! It's not what I'd call a duet in the conventional term but the song is SO beautiful I don't care!

Cheap album cover and bad songs based on what I heard on Oprah. The duet thing is just never a good look.

Just watched the JT-Reba duet on Oprah. Beautiful song, beautifully performed. I hope this CD debuts at #1 when the numbers come in this week.

Reba Poised For First Career No. 1 www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/content_display/industry/e3iaa81044b3a12eacf767ba44553d79934By Geoff Mayfield, L.A. Billboard's first Woman of the Year may be in line for her first career No. 1 on The Billboard 200, as Reba McEntire's new album leads the Friday edition of Nielsen SoundScan's Building Chart. Unweighted sales through close of Thursday from 94% of the Building Chart panel stand at 155,000 for "Reba Duets," which means McEntire is on course for her biggest sales week in more than a decade. Kanye West's "Graduation" stands is the Friday runner-up at 91,000. An informed source estimates that West's album and 50 Cent's "Curtis" will each experience second-week declines of 76% after turning heads this with totals of 957,000 and 691,000, respectively. Billboard estimates that the merchants who report to Nielsen SoundScan's Building Chart--Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Circuit City, iTunes, Border's, Target, Anderson Merchandisers, and Handleman Co.--represents 79% of the U.S. retail market. McEntire appeared on the Sept. 19 telecast of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on an episode that also featured Justin Timberlake and Kelly Clarkson, who each take turns on "Reba Duets." She will receive Billboard's inaugural Woman of the Year award on Oct. 5 in New York City. Christmas week of 1993, when "Greatest Hits Volume Two" rang 183,000 copies, was the last time McEntire ended a Nielsen SoundScan week with a total larger than her sum on Friday's Building Chart. That was the largest weekly sum for any of the 12 prior albums she has released since Nielsen SoundScan launched in 1991. McEntire's best peak on The Billboard 200 was a No. 2 plateau for 1994 set "Read My Mind," and she has notched nine No. 1s on Top Country Albums.

Billboard.biz:
• Reba McEntire lays claim to her first No. 1 album on The Billboard 200 as "Reba Duets" enters with 301,000. That's the country queen's best sales week since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking data in 1991. Her previous best frame came when "Greatest Hits Volume Two" moved 183,000 during the Christmas week of 1993 ...
"Duets" is a star-studded affair where McEntire collaborates with a wide array of music celebs. Acts joining her on the project include Rascal Flatts, Faith Hill, Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn's Ronnie Dunn, Kelly Clarkson and Justin Timberlake. The latter two joined McEntire on the Wednesday, Sept. 19, edition of "The Oprah Winfrey Show," where they performed two songs from "Duets."
• "Duets" gives McEntire her 10th No. 1 on Top Country Albums, stretching back to 1986's "Whoever's in New England." McEntire is now tied with Loretta Lynn for the most No. 1s on Top Country Albums among all female artists.

Congrats to Reba on both a great album and her first #1! Amazing what a good first single, good duet partners, and Oprah can do.

Billboard.com: Reba McEntire's MCA Nashville set "Reba Duets" experiences a 57% sales slide, falling to No. 6 after a No. 1 bow last week. Pretty good second week showing especially considering she had the Oprah benefit during her first week as well. It seems Sleeping With The Telephone with Faith Hill will be the next single.

Actually, he's still technically correct even if talking about #1s. It hasn't sold a million. However, a million has been shipped and since it's a double disc, it is certified double-platinum. What? It hasn't even sold a million yet. #1s is 2xp, NOT Duets.

McEntire, Clarkson Join Voices For Winter TourReba McEntire November 15, 2007, 12:40 PM ET Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. On the heels of this week's announcement of a winter Keith Urban/Carrie Underwood tour, another star pairing is preparing to hit the road around the same time. Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson will team for the 2 Worlds 2 Voices tour, kicking off Jan. 17 in Dayton, Ohio. The outing will visit 15 markets through Feb. 16 in Kansas City, Mo., tickets for some shows begin going on sale Nov. 30. McEntire and Clarkson became acquainted during sessions for the former's "Reba Duets," which spawned a collaborative cover of Clarkson's "Because of You." The duet was not what the pair had originally recorded for the project. Rehearsing for a CMT "Crossroads" special, McEntire's husband/manager Narvel Blackstock noticed a spark between the two on Clarkson's song. "Narvel came up to the stage and said, 'Reba, you've got to record this for the duet project,' " McEntire told Billboard recently. "I talked to Kelly and she said, 'Right on. Let's do it.' So we went back into the studio and recorded it." Before 2 Worlds 2 Voices, Clarkson has her own shows on tap through early December. She will also tour Australia and the United Kingdom in March. Here are McEntire/Clarkson's tour dates: Jan. 17: Dayton, Ohio (Nutter Center) Jan. 18: Louisville (Freedom Hall) Jan. 19: Morgantown, W.Va. (West Virgina University) Jan. 24: Norfolk, Va. (Norfolk Scope Arena) Jan. 25: Winston-Salem, N.C. (Lawrence Joel Coliseum) Jan. 26: Fayetteville, N.C. (Crown Center) Jan. 31: Wichita, Kan. (Kansas Coliseum) Feb. 1: Tulsa, Okla. (Mabee Center) Feb. 2: Bossier City, Kan. (Century-Tel Center) Feb. 7: St. Charles, Mo. (Family Arena) Feb. 8: Indianapolis (Conseco Fieldhouse) Feb. 9: Rockford, Ill. (Metro Center) Feb. 14: Tupelo, Miss. (Bancorpsouth Arena) Feb. 15: Jonesboro, Ark. (ASU Convocation Center) Feb. 16: Kansas City, Mo.
