I have so many issues with Mathew Knowles not promoting this properly. I didn't wanna get into it, 'cause I could go on and on about it, but here goes. Didn't they say they needed time to promote? So why, when it was the week of the album's release, Beyonce was EVERYWHERE promoting "If I Were A Boy"/"Single Ladies" and singing some low-grade Etta James cover on random shows, while Michelle was nowhere to be seen? What pisses me off is that Beyonce does have more star qualitites about her and is easier to market, which is exactly why Kelly and Michelle needed more promo than her. Beyonce could drop a song on iTunes right now and it would go to number one because it's Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle need much more than that. Hope their new labels do them justice.

The most important thing that any recording artist need to succeed in the music industry is radio airplay. That falls under the record label's responsibility.
Have you notice how the big stars get their records premiered on Z100 (NYC) radio? That is NOT management. That is all record label.
Indie artists can get bookings on talk shows. Bookings is handled by a booking agency that the recording artists hire. But, getting bookings on talk shows isn't going to help album sales if there is no radio airplay.
For example take Wango Tango and Jingle Ball music concerts. Those events are sponsored by KIIS FM (L.A.). The only artists who are invited to be a part of those events are those who have strong radio airplay. Usually these are some of the hottest artist in music who are part of these radio concerts.

Why wouldn't Mathew Knowles want Michelle Williams to succeed? Let's look at the situation from this angle.
Michelle's lead single from the "Unexpected" album is "We Break the Dawn" which is a HOT song. It should have done well at radio. There was NOTHING wrong with that song. The song was co-written by Mathew's daughter (Solange).
So I'm sure Mathew would have loved for Solange and Michelle to have success with this song. Solange as the songwriter and Michelle as the artist.
Plus Michelle has a remix of "We Break the Dawn" featuring Flo Rida. Flo Rida is hot right now.
I blame Columbia Records for the poor album sales. They didn't push "We Break the Dawn" to radio and because of that the whole album collapsed.

london.broadway.com/blog/id/3011497/R&BSingerMichelleWilliamsHeadedforChicagoR&B Singer Michelle Williams Headed for Chicago May 26, 2009 Former Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams will make her London stage debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago for a six-week run, July 13-August 13. She is the second American set to join the show at the Cambridge Theatre this summer, following Jerry Springer’s run as lawyer Billy Flynn (June 1-July 11). Williams (not to be confused with the Oscar-nominated actress of the same name) is best known for performing alongside Beyonce in the Grammy Award-winning group Destiny’s Child. Williams played the title role in the Broadway production of Aida and appeared as Shug Avery in the Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco engagements of The Color Purple. She has also released three CDs as a solo artist. The current London cast of Chicago includes How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? contestant Aoife Mulholland as Roxie Hart, Rachel McDowall as Velma Kelly and Ian Kelsey as Billy Flynn. McDowall and Kelsey will be replaced on June 1 by Leigh Zimmerman and Springer. Chicago opened at London’s Adelphi Theatre in 1997 and transferred to the Cambridge Theatre in 2006.

EXCLUSIVE: Destiny's Child star teams up with Ultra Naté Wednesday, June 24 2009, 7:36am EDT By Nick Levine, Music Editor
Michelle Williams has revealed that she has recorded a duet with dance star Ultra Naté.
Ultra Naté, best known for her 1997 hit 'Free', will share vocals with the Destiny's Child singer on a track called 'I'm Waiting On You'.
"I just did a big dance song with Ultra Naté," Williams told DS. "They're doing the final revisions on it at the moment and I'm very, very excited about it.
"I think it's for her record, but it's a big track so of course I'll put it on mine too."
Williams, who will star in the West End production of Chicago from July 13, took the opportunity to praise the way Ultra Naté has conducted her career.
"I'm a fan of her music and I definitely respect her for the lane that she's crafted for herself," she said.
Williams is not the only Destiny's Child star to have recorded a dance collaboration in recent months. Her former bandmate Kelly Rowland teamed up with French DJ David Guetta for 'When Love Takes Over', currently number one on the UK singles chart.
This is great news. Ultra Naté has been a big part of Dance music for the last 20 years. She's a great songwriter in addition to singing. Ultra and Michelle would complement each other quite well on a duet.
This is Ultra's '97 hit "Free"
And her 2007 cover of "Automatic."

Oh. My. God.
Michelle just unexpectedly called into Radio One, the biggest radio station in the UK. After chatting for a bit about Chicago etc she asked them to play her record.
DJ: Unfortunately we cant find your record, but we can play some Destinys Child?"
Michelle: Oh thats not good
DJ: Im sorry but how about Independent Women?
Michelle: Actually, just play Kelly Rowland
It was hilarious! How embarassing for her...
Loved the Kelly Rowland line though. Definite beef with Beyonce.

"Hello Heartbreak" is being promoted in the UK clubs now. A promo with remixes was sent out. Hopefully they will do the same in the U.S.

Just wanted to say I just now listened to this album and I LOVED IT. I didn't think I would like it at all, so me loving it was so unexpected ;). I think my favorites were The Greatest (Love the Jason Nevins remix), Unexpected, Thank U, and We Break The Dawn Pt 1.

Her album was handled poorly. We Break The Dawn was the perfect first single that should have received more attention, promo and esp. radio play. The album is really good!

www.people.com/people/article/0,,20334659,00.html Singer Michelle Williams to Star in Broadway's ChicagoBy Catherine Donaldson-Evans Wednesday January 06, 2010 Former Destiny's Child star Michelle Williams will see her name in lights next month when she high-kicks her way into the starring role of Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway. Williams, 29, will play the wannabe star-turned-murderess for a limited run in the hit musical from Feb. 8 to March 28. Williams will be taking over from Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, who debuted in the revival on Dec. 1. (A winner of six Tonys, this production of Chicago has been running on Broadway for 13 years.) Williams first played Roxie last year in London's West End production. Williams, who won three Grammy Awards while she was with Destiny’s Child, has since released three solo albums and in 2003 made her Broadway debut in Aida, replacing fellow singer Toni Braxton. She also performed in the national tour of The Color Purple.

You go Michelle. I still find it CRIMINAL that "We Break The Dawn" was totally ignored at pop. Had she released this post-dance (GaGa) I think this would have been a smash! At the FloRida mix is terrific too

She's a free agent now ... according to thatgrapejuice.net/2010/01/exclusive-michelle-williams-parts-ways-music-world/FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 12, 2010
STATEMENT REGARDING GRAMMY-AWARD WINNING SINGER MICHELLE WILLIAMS DISSOLVING HER MANAGEMENT ARRANGEMENT WITH MATHEW KNOWLES AND MUSIC WORLD ENTERTAINMENT
“After much prayer and consideration I have decided to part ways from my management team, Mathew Knowles and Music World Entertainment. From my time in Destiny’s Child to my solo career, I am grateful for everything Mathew and his team has done for me. We’ve shared great success together. However, as I move in a new direction in my career, I felt it was time. I wish Mathew Knowles and the Music World Entertainment family all the best.”
ABOUT MICHELLE WILLIAMS
This winter, Grammy Award-winning recording artist and actress Michelle Williams returns to Broadway as Roxie Hart in the Tony Award-winning hit musical CHICAGO for a seven-week limited engagement, Monday, February 8, 2010 through Sunday, March 28, 2010 at the Ambassador Theatre (219 W. 49th St.).
Michelle Williams first took on Roxie Hart last year to critical acclaim in London’s Cambridge Theatre, marking the first time an African American woman has played the role of Roxie Hart on London’s West End. Her limited engagement proved so successful that it was extended an additional three weeks by popular demand.
She made her Broadway stage debut in 2003, replacing R&B icon Toni Braxton in the title role of Disney’s Aida. In April 2007, she joined the national touring company of the hit musical The Color Purple, performing extended runs in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Phoenix with members of the original Broadway cast.
Michelle Williams also maintains her stake as a minority owner of the WNBA team, Chicago Sky.
