All Music Guide gave the album 3/5, which puts it below both of her gospel albums.

Yes, for the millionth time, Michelle needs to eat a ham sandwich or two. We are over that. Now, on to this hot album! It really was "unexpected". The production on this is so crazy and I usually don't like Euro sounding music but it's a very solid album. Definitely better than anything Kelly puts out. Beyonce is a pop genius but she is in her own lane and can't be compared to Michelle, who, with her humility, interesting voice and ace production, shines on her own.

I am not crazy about Kelly besides a few songs here and there but they are all different, yes.

She disappoints me the most as she gets the s**ttiest tracks ever. I disagree. She always does well with her midtempos & ballads (which made up more than 75% of Miss Kelly). It's the uptempos she needs to work on.

Per HitsDailyDouble, she's sold about 7,194 copies with 54% of the figures in. She might sell about 14k by the time official figures are in.

Billboard.com:
ARTIST: MICHELLE WILLIAMS
ALBUM: UNEXPECTED (Music World/Columbia Records)
The surprise alluded to in the title of Michelle Williams' third solo album is that "Unexpected" finds the former Destiny's Child member moving from gospel to pop. Considering that she can no longer depend on the occasional DC set to keep her name in mainstream circulation, though, it's not hard to believe Williams would choose to make such a transition. Nor is the radio-ready sound of "Unexpected" -- with a guest appearance by Flo Rida -- much of a shock; Williams and her handlers have clearly been listening to recent hits by Rihanna and Ciara. But "Unexpected" does boast a handful of shiny electro-R&B gems ("Hello Heartbreak," "We Break the Dawn") that make Williams' journey from church to club as enjoyable as it was inevitable.

Poor Michelle, I know she has to be so hurt. I hope she finds another label, the Knowles clan treated her terribly.

After it's debut and no hit Pop (or even R&B) single, that drop wasn't unexpected.

Although her sales of the album are poor, I am telling you all that the material is HOT on the album. Who cares about the charts when you have hot music that no one gets a chance to hear. At least she is doing well on the dance charts. Hello Heartbreak and The Greatest and the remixes to them are really good are the new singles. I'm not sure if they have charted on any dance chart, or POP yet...I love her cd though, along with Pink's new one, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry's. All unique like Michelle's! :)

Yeah, I think this is one of the better R&B albums of the year. Better than Ashanti's.

I consider it more dance/pop than R&B though. I wouldn't compare her's to anyones really, its a style of her own. I wish mainstream would spin songs from her Unexpected album...

Michelle's "The Greatest" hits #1 on this week's Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play for the 12/27/2008 issue.
Congrats to her on her second #1 dance hit!
Hopefully "Hello Heartbreak" can become her third.
