Vanessa by far. Michelle is a tad generic-just another pop rock artist singing generic lyrics about love and stuff. Vanessa is one of the most talented musicians out there period. Her abilities with lyrics, music, and the piano far eclipse Michelle's and most artists.

Vanessa... by a lot, even if she's not making stuff that's "commercially appealing"... I think she could put out another hit single if she wanted to... but right now I just don't think that's a priority to her...
Michelle's little expletive filled-tirade on her fansite board a couple years back still resonates with me - that was one of the most unprofessional things I've EVER seen! I lost a lot of respect for her that day... even today, she's still quite a lot on the immature side... didn't care for her attitude when I saw her (and Jessica Harp) open for Keith Urban over this past summer...

Vanessa's better, she's more talented. She composes her own music, she plays the piano, she sings, she's an amazing ballet dancer, overall she is just more talented.

When I was in highschool and they were both fresh, a friend of mine never could tell them apart and just called them Michelle Carlton. I voted Michelle though, she's never disappointed (except not releasing Empty Handed off HP). |

I liked Vanessa's first album but I loved all the songs of Michelle's (Solo) The Spirit Room album and most of the ones in Hotel Paper. So Michelle is the clear winner for me.
