I know this is a bit strange, but have you ever been put off an artist because of their general-fanbase or an obsessed fan?
I.e. someone goes on and on and on about an artist on a forum or your social circle, would that put you off the artist?
Sorry if this has already been asked :)

Yes. It's probably extremely childish and immature for me to dislike an artist because of some of their fanbase, but some stans just bug the hell out of me. Doesn't make me hate an artist, but makes it easier lol.

Not really. It's much more the artists themselves and their actions that turn me off.
What bothers me more than anything about fans is when they hype a song that really doesn't deserve the hype from an established artist and then they TOTALLY clam up when the song inevitably flops!
Britney's singles off her current CD and Janet's "Feedback" single would be the best examples of this from recent times.

Not really put off the artist, but I sometimes I get sick and tired of being hammered over the head about them and how wonderful they are, in general threads like HDD. But that's really a fan issue and has nothing to do with the artist.

No. However Stans will make me not want to visit so and such artists forums as much; even just lurking.
For example I was a huge Christina Aguilera fan and still am a fan (not as big because I didn't care much for her last effort, et cetera...) but I rarely go to one of her more popular forums because her Stans behave really ridiculous to me. Meh.

Yes, ESPECIALLY Christina fans. Like I love Christina's music and voice but her high than mighty attitude really puts me off and then her fans that insult you if you dont agree REALLY puts me off. It even bothers me when people are too far up P!nks ass but that I can just shrug off, theyre not as mean as some fanbases.

Britney's singles and Janet's (Feeback that is) deserved hype and all the praise they got imo. Neither of them should have flopped, especially Britney's. If either POM or GM were put out by an "it" singer like Rihanna for ex they would have gone #1, GM especially, 100% radio friendly and 100% pop goodness. And I also don't think theres anything wrong with being optimistic about a songs future!

Definitely. When Kelly Clarkson and Gwen Stefani were so big back in 2005, I heard about them ALL THE TIME and it just got me so sick of both of them! At one point I've also gotten sick of Mariah Carey and Nelly Furtado for the same reason. And there's another forum I go on (I don't wanna say which one because some people on here might be on it and I don't wanna upset them, but it's not Pulse so don't worry, lol) where, like, EVERY member is an obsessed Britney Spears fan and EVERY thread is about her too! Might as well call it the 'Obsessive Britney Fan Forum' or something.

Wow I was expecting loads of "what a stupid poll" responses LOL.
I'm with the majority :( it bugs me when people overrate an artist that you find just "ok", really hinders my liking for them.

That's what I have a problem with. We saw the same thing with Gwen's "Wind It Up," Kelly's "Never Again" and Christina's "Candyman" and it will happen in a few weeks with Mariah's new song just as soon as the sub-3 callout numbers start pouring in... If you're going to be on the bandwagon, you need to be on it for the full ride, otherwise you're not really a fan in the first place.

Someone being a superfan doesn't turn me off.... The artists can't control their fans so why punish them?

Unfortunately, it does have some effect on me. But at the end of the day, I do still end up liking many of those artists' songs. For example, I have a cousin who is a huge U2 and Metallica fan, but he keeps putting other artists down, so I am sometimes slower in liking new U2 songs though I eventually do. Not as much on the forums... I think the only two for me would be Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera, though I do own some of their albums as well.

Yes. *cough Lengend. I actually preferred Christina a lot more than Britney from their debut to the Stripped era but after that..

Yes. They shouldn't, but I can't help it. LiveDaily has scarred my Xtina fandom significantly. That place is where brain cells go to die.
