Wow, that's harsh. This is my favorite country single of 2008 with the only competition coming from Brad Paisley's "Waitin' on a Woman" and Randy Houser's "Anything Goes."

This song and the recent Top 20 hits from Lee Ann Womack are two of my favorites from 2008. I hope this is a direction that country radio goes in.

I like the song, mostly for the story that it conveys. But Jamey seems so lethargic about it, like he's being forced to sing it against his will.

Will country music finally diverge from the 'pop' route that it has been following and finally revert back to the sound of the 90's? We can only hope so. The pop act can only go so far. Thank you Jamey Johnson for keeping it country-fied.

Sorry if this is a little unrelated but I REALLY wish I had purchased Trace Adkins' version when it was still available as an individual song on itunes. Now it's an 'Album Only' track from his new album.
Gooooooood song!

37 weeks and still going strong! If this song is able to curtail its current momentum into a run at the Top 5 or even #1 (the latter is still a long shot), it may be time to examine the milestones the song is approaching. If it does go #1, it'll almost certainly break Tracy Lawrence's mark for slowest ever climb to #1 (41 weeks). Even if it comes up short of the top, the song has a chance to surpass some very impressive chart runs. It should easily surpass Chris Cagle's "What Kinda Gone", which spent the most weeks on the chart in '08 with 40 weeks, and has a good shot at FOWYFA, which spent 44 total weeks on the chart in '07, and possibly even Sugarland's "Baby Girl, which spent a Soundscan era record 46 weeks on the chart in '05. I don't see this song hitting the one year mark and threatening Eddy Arnold's all-time record (54 weeks), but a 40-45 week run would still be most impressive for a guy who was dumped from his previous label after only 2 singles.

I never expected this song to hit #1, but I was hoping that the Grammy boost would take it to the top-5. Not looking so good now. I had my fingers crossed that this week's slowdown was just a "correction" of sorts to the post-Grammy hype (and maybe the early Christmas effect), but perhaps not. The song has been testing top-10 for a while now, so I'm glad it at least managed to make the top-10 (unlike Randy Houser's "Anything Goes," which also tested top-10...sigh).
In any case, "In Color" is my favorite single released this year. I know that it is far from the first song about memories released in country music, but I think this one is special. As I said in my post in the 2008 In Review thread, I think the lyrics are especially evocative and convey a feeling of "Wow, it's hard to believe what I've lived through," but without seeming self-centered or self-glorifying. And I think Johnson's matter-of-fact and understated delivery is perfectly suited to convey the "awe in remembrance" of the lyrics. He sounds conversational when he sings it, and that is exactly what makes this song so powerful for me.
I don't think this song's success suggests a trend for country radio (unfortunately). I think it speaks more to the intense critical buzz behind Johnson and his album, and the good callout the song ended up receiving. Johnson also had a somewhat easier road to hoe being a guy (after all, Trisha Yearwood and Patty Loveless were hardly short on critical hosannas received in the past year, and neither has been heard much on radio this year). Still, it is nice to see a song from a non-core artist for country radio fight its way into the top-10 on the strength of quality-based buzz.

It is sad to see this song just about done. I was hoping after the boost it got it would go to number one.
A few days ago, I actually caught onto the lyrics, I didn't pay attention much before. What a beautiful song.

Don't believe I've yet expressed my opinion on this song. I do like the lyrics but he does sound like he's singing the verses with his lips closed.

I prefer this song as sung by James Otto - one of the songs writers. When he was in Toronto last month with AJ/Trace Adkins - he sang the song and I much prefer his version (although he does sound a lot like Jamey when he sings it!)

i am glad someone finally agrees with me about this song. i cant believe everyone here loves it so much. i also experienced this boredom with Trisha's "This Is Me You're Talking To" that everyone here was in love with. Agree - I don't care for this song by Jamey - and I didn't care for TIMYTT by Trisha! Didn't know Trace did a version - would love to hear that!! While I might not go that far - I have to agree that I don't like Jamey's voice - turns me off!

I dont think it was ever gonna hit #1, it's too traditional sounding for Country radio right now. That said, it's not like this would have been the worst song to hit #1 this year. It is far better written than at least half a dozen other #1's from this past year.

Judging by the praise on this thread, it sounds as as if this was one of 2008's very best CDs, certainly in a class with Lee Ann Womack's masterpiece, and the debut CD from Lady Antebellum.
Gotta go shopping again, don't I?

Don't worry Zaclord, you still aren't alone on not thinking this song is that great. I actually don't even think the lyrics are very good, pretty bland if you ask me. Throw in his voice on top of it, just brings it way down.
