Solange Knowles, releases her sophmore album on Aug. 26th. She has taken a modern take on 60's/70's/Motown and has worked with a list of producers such as Cee-Lo, Pharrel and Mark Ronson and has collaborated with Q-Tip, Lil' Wayne and Estelle. The first single "I Decided" is available on iTunes now, and she just shot the music video for it with Melina (Kitty Kat, Green Light). God Given Name T.O.N.Y Dancing In The Dark Would've Been The One Sandcastle Disco I Decided Valentines Day 6 O'clock Blues Ode To Marvin I Told You So Cosmic Journey This Bird I Decided Part 2 ChampagneCroniKnightCap It's out there. Get it. Support good and real music.

Solange Not Out To Top Sister Beyonce On New AlbumMay 16, 2008, 4:25 PM ET Mariel Concepcion, N.Y. Solange Knowles wastes no time setting the record straight about comparisons to older sister Beyonce on her sophomore album, "Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dream," due Aug. 26 via Music World/Geffen. "I'm not her and never will be / two girls gone in different directions, striving towards the same galaxy / let my star light shine on its own / No, I'm no sister, I'm just my God-given name," Knowles sings on the appropriately titled opener "God Given Name." "Solange wasn't concerned with being perfect on this album," the elder Knowles told Billboard.com. "Beyonce's already got pop and she's perfect at it. Solange just wanted to sing from the heart. She wants her feelings and emotions to touch you. That's why 'God Given Name' was purposely the first song -- so she can share with you how different she is." Knowles definitely attempts to stray from her sister's staple sound on the upcoming album. With the help of producers the Neptunes, Jack Splash, Q-Tip and Mark Ronson, "Sol-Angel" is less pop, with more of a modern twist on hip-hop and R&B flecked with tinges of blues and jazz. And, unlike her sister -- who has yet to go public about her relationship and recent marriage to rapper Jay-Z -- Solange has no reservations about sharing personal experiences. Tracks like the break-up song "Valentine's Day," the regretful "T.O.N.Y.," about a one-night stand, and the Pharrell-produced lead single "I Decided," all demonstrate her storytelling abilities. Other tracks on the set include the Bilal-penned "Cosmic Journey," "Wanna Go Back" featuring Marsha Ambrosius of Floetry, the Estelle-assisted "Same Song, Different Man," "Champagnechronicnightcap," alongside Lil Wayne, and "SandCastle Disco," which is set to be the second single. As previously reported, the video for "I Decided" is directed by Melina and features Knowles in settings from "American Bandstand," the Civil Rights movement, new wave and a "Cosmic Journey" atmosphere. It will be serviced to music television channels this month. "I Decided Pt. 2" featuring the Freemasons will be released as the first single in Europe in coming weeks. In addition, Knowles has partnered with Wal Mart and plans on releasing a branded MP3 player soon. She will also embark on "The Art of Love" tour featuring Raheem Devaughn and Chrisette Michele starting next week, and although details were scant, she is currently negotiating another stateside tour and an international endorsement deal. Knowles' 2003 debut, "Solo Star," via Music World/Columbia, reached No. 23 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and has sold 112,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

Listen: Is Beyoncé's Sister a Harbinger of the Apocalypse?Posted 5/21/2008 12:20:00 PM by Ryan Dombal Solange "Sandcastle Disco" You know the world's about to come to a fiery end when a brand new leaked track by Beyoncé's sister is straight-up better than a brand new leaked track by Beyoncé. While B tries to chase Rihanna, Solange is doing her best Amy Winehouse on "Sandcastle Disco," an effervescent girl-group throwback. Lauryn Hill's "That Thing" is another obvious reference point, and while Solange's vocal talents pale in comparison to Hill's (or Beyoncé's or Amy's), she doesn't try to overexert herself as she warns a Casanova, "You know that I'm fragile/ Baby, please don't blow me away." Between this and her equally impressive '60s-style single "I Decided," consider us officially interested in Solange the Artist. Apocalypse now. 3 and a half *'s out of 5 Link: www.blender.com/ListenIsBeyonc%C3%A9sSisteraHarbingeroftheApocalypse/Blender-Blog/blogs/1168/25565.aspx

mini-review from the acerbic yet superb Pop Justice in the UK: Solange's new album: better than her sister's last one www.popjustice.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2592&Itemid=206Beyonce's last album was rubbish. Even based on just two tracks, her sister Solange's new album - 'Sol-Angel And The Hadley St Dreams' (!!!) - is better. EXHIBIT A The Pharrell-produced 'I Decided', which the Freemasons have turned into one of the summer's biggest pop tunes. EXHIBIT B 'Sandcastle Disco' (?!) which is also very good indeed. (Some other songs have leaked as well but they're not quite as good so we will ignore them.)

The Freemasons version of I Decided is hot. I didnt like the original version YUP The remix is amazing. Gives off the same energy as Crazy in Love almost. The original is rather lame.

Great performance solo! I enjoyed that. Love the Heatwave mix she added. She needs to perform at the BET awards or something. Aol Sessions would be hot too.
