Last year on CHR/Pop Just Lose It by Eminem debuted in the Top 40 all the way up at #13.
In the old era when American Top 40 used Billboard as its source Upside Down by Diana Ross debuted in the Top 40 at #10.
Does anyone know any other really high debuts (#15 or better!) on the CHR/Pop Chart.
I'm sure Mariah and Madonna must have had some high ones in their glory years.

Indeed...in 1998, Madonna's "Frozen" entered the Top 40 at #15.
I remember that. It froze in the Top 10 though, just like Just Lose It. That's what happens with those high debuts. Even if its not purely a hype factor, they get played out so quick that it can't possibly make #1.

Jon Secada's "If You Go" debuted at #15 in 1994, making it the only other top 15 debut in the history of the R&R top 40.
If you look at AT40, there were 3 top 15 debuts in 1992 (the year AT40 used Billboard's Hot 100 Airplay chart).
Luther Vandross and Janet Jackson - The Best Things In Life Are Free (#13) Mariah Carey featuring Trey Lorenz - I'll Be There (#4) Madonna - Erotica (#2)
Ironically, "Erotica" peaked at #2 as well. The song burned out very fast (only 8 weeks on the chart).

I remember when "Erotica" debuted at #2 on Shadoe's Show.. I sat by the radio waiting for him to play the song, thinking it would debut at maybe #10 or #9..
1992 was an odd year for AT40 as the chart started moving ALOT slower than Casey's Top 40.. A song would be in the top 10 on CT40 but only #29 on Shadoe's countdown, OR a song would have dropped off of CT40 weeks before, would still be on AT40..
Songs on AT40 in 1992 also tended to spend a longer time at #1.. I remember Vanessa Williams' "Save The Best For Last" spending 8 Weeks at #1, and En Vogue spending 8 weeks at #1 as well..

That's because the chart that AT40 began using in December 1991 was pretty much calculated the way the modern-day pop charts are compiled. Songs suddenly moved like molasses and hung around for 5-6 months instead of 2-3 months.
In my opinion, this was the worst era in AT40's history as far as the chart is concerned. I always regeretted not listening to Rick Dees or Casey instead during this era (all 3 shows aired at the exact same time in my listening era), as those shows continued to have active charts until mid-1994.

Another impressive debut was "Wake Me Up When September Ends." It came in at #19 I believe.
And "Found Out About You" made quite an impressive re-entry in 1994, only to disappear the following week.

It just happened this year actually, but not officially (since R&R removed the LW's). On the last chart of 2005, Ne-Yo's So Sick was #41. On the first chart of 2006, So Sick was #15.
Unless I missed something.

That was due to the change in the figuring system on the week of April 22. "Found Out About You" was still getting a lot of airplay. It fell out the next week due to some hidden recurrent rule.

I don't know, think K-Fed has a chance at debuting at like #9 with a +4200 bullet, that's how sweet that song is.

The Beatles debuted at #10 twice, with 'Hey Jude' in 1968 and 'Get Back' in 1969.

I thought that Just Lose It debuted in the upper 20s and then went to #13 the next week. I'm sure someone has its chart run. Frozen did not debut on the pop chart at #15 though like Just Another Day. It moved 41-15 in its second week on the chart. So, Just Another Day still holds the record for the highest overall debut on the pop chart.

"Frozen" actually moved from 45 to 15. And you have the wrong Jon Secada song. It was actually "If You Go". "Just Another Day" debuted at #38. Some think that "If You Go" probably wouldn't have debuted at #15 had the chart gone down to 50 back then, but the week before, it showed that it had zero plays, so it, in fact, would have debuted as high as it did, regardless of chart size.

'We Are The World' SHOULD have debuted at #1 in BB, in light of the fact that it sold over 300,00 copies in it's opening week, and obliterated the all-time record for most out-of-the-box-adss by being added on over THREE HUNDRED radio stations in its first week, including all 235 of BB's CHR/Pop reporters.

What sort of puzzled me is how "One More Night" by Phil Collins held them out of number one when they had been within striking distance of the top spot the week before. I'll bet the margin between the two songs was paper thin.

"My Happy Ending" made a top 20 debut on AT40 in 2004 ;) LOL, technically yes, but theoretically, it didn't count since, as we know all too well, the song was listed twice under two different titles. Kelly Clarkson, who guest hosted that week, didn't even acknowledge it as a debut song, just said something about it being the subject of a lot of e-mail in the past few weeks, some of which probably came from a few members here.

in recent times, Janet debuted at #9 on hot 100 airplay back in 01 I think. Forgot name of song though. That's the highest I've seen in the last 10 years I've been watching.
Lee Greenwood also came in at 16 I think about the same time, due to the 911 stuff.

That would probably be "All For You", since that song was added to every single station in the CHR/Pop panel its very first week in release.

This wasn't top 15, but Backstreet Boys' "Show me the meaning of being lonely" debuted at #16 on 1/7/00. It did actually end up hitting #1. The high debut should, I guess, be taken with a grain of salt since it was the 1st chart after Christmas break.
