I'm starting to think she should depart country as well, though I've argued against that move for years. She is too talented to be restricted by country radio. Her "Twisted Angel" album was really good and she could have a lot of creativity in that genre. Yes! You've finally come around to my way of thinking!!!! I love it! ;)

She shouldn't be afraid to try to branch out again. It worked a few years ago for her. Not really. Twisted Angel, although one of her best albums, bombed hard. Whatever We Wanna bombed in Europe. Let's face it. She's too pop for country and too country for pop. It's a battle she'll never win. Lately, I've been realizing that I'm just gonna have to be happy that she's still making albums. As long as there's new music, I can't care about how well she's doing on the charts.

^EXACTLY how I feel. As long as she's making music, I'm a happy camper. The thing is, I want to see her have success. I mean, who doesn't want their favorite singer to succeed? I wish she was more popular and more well known. I've learned to face the fact that it's never going to happen for her. I seriously don't think she'll ever have a consistent successful career on country radio.
As for her going "back" to pop. I'm not going to say much. I've stated before that I think her pop music is pure masterpieces. Again, as long as she makes music, country OR pop, I'm happy.

I'm happy with new music too, but like BBN pointed out, I want her to be successful. Honestly, if she's going to release a pop single she shouldn't also pitch it to country as she did with "Life Goes On", what did that say to pop radio? She was trying to straddle the fence. She needs to jump on over and try it out again. Another pop album in the States could not hurt that much. I know TA tanked bad, but she did try to market that music in two different genres.
She will most likely never be successful at country radio, but I do have hopes for pop/AC radio. She has a consistent fan base out there, I just don't think they know what to think sometimes. She makes some of the best music in Nashville yet it varies from album to album whether it's pop or country. While I don't have a problem with that, most people use that against her.
I know the next album, possibly two, will be country- hopefully she will feel the need to branch out again and really get out of Curb records. Even Tim McGraw's not having the success he used to- bad single choices or not- that should tell you something!

I told the Music Director at 100.7 "The Wolf", KKWF, in Seattle that I would like to hear this song on their station. Her response was "I don't have that in here".
She also said "It's not up to me to decide what music is played on the station. What the hell IS a Music Director's job if not to "direct" the musical content of a station. She said it was up to the Program Director. Sounds like a lot of hogwash to me. They won't play the latest masterpiece by one of the best voices in country music but they'll play the latest crap from a bunch of no-name wannabes. I just don't get it. Have a nice night

Even Tim McGraw's not having the success he used to- bad single choices or not- that should tell you something! Yeah, not even Garth (the most succesful artist of all time) can get a constant flow of top 10's (can't believe his last two singles didn't do well, even if they weren't really good it doesn't seem to matter for some artists). George Strait and Alan Jackson seem to be the only ones that can hang in there and still have constant success after over 15 years (and even more for George). Really amazing! Back to LeAnn she definately has to do something different. ANYTHING!

Guys, the song was just sent to radio last Monday, just 8 days ago. The video has not been sent yet, so be patient. Do I expect a big hit? Nah, but a moderate one. However, there is a lot of "behind the scenes" manuvering with this track and it has garnered far more buzz than any recent single of LeAnn's. Give it time, if it is to be a hit, it won't explode, rather "slow and steady."
As for ditching country, I say, get to ditchin'. Most people in country don't get LeAnn and probably never will. If she would change labels and go to a company that would know how to promote a "pop" act effectively, I see lots of success for Ms. Rimes.
Just because she doesn't want to be "pigeon-holed" into one genre doesn't mean sha has to be. Taylor Swift is more "pop" than ANYTHING LeAnn has done and she is constantly being played. I really see Curb as the main problem here.

It's gained 30 spins in the last week (all-stations panel), but honestly, that isn't very much.

she needs to start doing some promo and calling up radio stations if she wants this song to get out and if she wants her record to sell. this no promo thing is just not working.

Can someone tell me why I haven't gotten into LeAnn Rimes yet? I like some of her songs (especially "Probably Wouldn't Be This Way"), but I just can't really get into her after all this time.

I couldnt agree with you more although I do have alot of her albums. And I actually heard Probably Wouldn't Be This Way on the radio today since I forgot the CD my friend burnt for me today.

I can't answer for you, but I can tell you why I've always been so into her. We're the same age, so I was 13 when she first came out. At first I was just amazed that someone my age was doing the things she was doing. Being a kid and never being taken seriously, it was nice to see adults running out to buy her CDs and concert tickets and actually listening to every word that rolled out of a teenager's mouth. Then, as we both grew older, we seemed to go through a lot of the same changes. Conflict with parents, dating, being misunderstood, etc. Every phase of her music seemed to flow right with me. It was like having a friend making music specifically for me. The best example of this is definitely Twisted Angel. But all throughout, there have been songs and events in LeAnn's life that I've been able to enjoy and relate to. I was very proud to see how she evolved out of her parental conflicts, and to witness in person the great relationship she has with her father now. I was proud to see her fall in love and maintain a marriage in a very negative industry. I've always been proud to see her do amazing things for deserving people and helpless children. She has a heart of gold which unfortunately has been overshadowed by some things that she's been through. We all go through these things, just not in front of millions of people. I just see her life as a normal life exaggerated. And she has come through it all and turned into an incredible, mature woman who still has the heart of a child at times. And to me, her music reflects every bit of that. Not to mention that she's been an absolute doll all 15 times that I've met her. From the 2nd time on she's always smiled, asked me how I've been, and signed my name on whatever I've brought without even asking. She even fussed at me last time for not having a jacket on when it was cold outside. She's just a friendly, sweet person. Oh how I love LeAnn. haha sorry

Personally, I don't see how anyone CAN'T like LeAnn or be into her. She is my absolute favorite artist of any genre.
I was 10 when she came out with "Blue". As far as I remember, she is what made me really APPRECIATE music. I began to listen for pleasure instead of having to because my parents had it on. LeAnn (and Shania soon thereafter) made me WANT to listen to country music. At age 10, I had learned to like a singer because of her VOICE. To this day, I still believe she has the best voice I have ever heard.
One of the first CD's I ever owned was "Blue", a gift from my parents. I was 10. Even then, she more than impressed me as she sang "Honestly" and "Hurt Me" and "Fade To Blue". How can ANYONE listen to these songs and not like them? Just listen to her voice. It is beyond impressive.
Then she released "Unchained Melody". Wow, she continued to deliver true, beautiful country music. Just listen to "Yesterday" and "Broken Wing" and tell me it doesn't hit you and make you go "wooooow". To this day, these two songs just hit me in every way possible. The way she sings them is just amazing.
So I was a big fan from the beginning. Then she did "Twisted Angel" and I appreciated her music on another whole new level. Not only can this woman do country, but she can make EXCELLENT and GORGEOUS pop music, my second favorite genre of music. "Twisted Angel", "I Need You", and "Whatever We Wanna" (yes, I paid 20 bucks for the CD and shipping when it first came out) are three of the best albums I've ever heard. Not only is this awesome music, but she sings pop better than she sings country.
I don't know. I just don't get how someone can't like LeAnn, lol. When I hear her music, I hear her voice first and foremost. Even an awfully written and terribly sounding song such as "Doesn't Everybody" (from "Family") is a decent song just because of her voice. LeAnn's voice is her instrument and the only one she ever needs as far as I'm concerned. That is what has captivated me from the beginning and still does to this day.

Personally, I don't see how anyone CAN'T like LeAnn or be into her. She is my absolute favorite artist of any genre. I was 10 when she came out with "Blue". I was 9 in 1996. I think then I was jealous that someone only a few years older than myself was charting, given that I always wanted to be a country singer myself. Heck, I'm 21 now and I still haven't even left my hometown. I like LeAnn just fine, even if she does have those weird looking eyes. Like I said, "Probably Wouldn't Be This Way" is one of my favorite country songs. She's had a couple other songs that I thought were very good, such as "Big Deal", "One Way Ticket (Because I Can)", "Some People" (great vocals!), etc. I like her voice too, but for some reason I just haven't found a reason to buy any of her albums. Maybe I'm just a little leery of some of her bland pop stuff, like "I Need You", "How Do I Live", or "You Light up My Life". Even "Good Friend and a Glass of Wine" was bland in my opinion. For the record, I don't even recognize any of the songs she released between "I Need You" and "Nothin' 'bout Love Makes Sense". Somewhere around 2003-2004, I was under the impression that LeAnn had given up on any semblance of a musical career and gone to work at Hardee's or something.

There are a couple LeAnn songs I don't like but for the most part I love her and all her songs. She's really had some great ones (Blue, One Way Ticket, Nothin' New Under the Moon, Don't Ever Lose that Light In Your Eyes, Life Goes On, Big Deal, Nothin' Bout Love Makes Sense, Something's Gotta Give, Nothin' Better to Do). I just really enjoy listening to her voice after a hard day.

"I Need You" and "How Do I Live" are two of my least favorite songs of hers. However, I did greatly enjoy "You Light Up My Life", although I do understand how you can consider it bland, it definitely isn't her best song. What you should do is go to iTunes and listen to clips of what I consider her best songs (in order by album): Hurt Me Honestly Fade To Blue Broken Wing Yesterday I'll skip her "You Light Up My Life" CD. While I still find the music good, it's my least favorite CD of hers. Nothing on it is really memorable. These Arms Of Mine When Am I Gonna Get Over You Insensitive All The Lovin And The Hurtin The Heart Never Forgets Purple Rain ................. "Sittin On Top Of The World" is one over best albums vocally. Don't Worry Leavin On Your Mind .........I highly recommend her self titled album - beginning to end. My #1 favorite of hers.... I think. Soon One Of These Days.......... The "I Need You" album is my least favorite of her pop albums. The Safest Place Damn Review My Kisses Love Is An Army ....... I'm not sure what part of the song the clip will give you, but I Guarantee you it won't do the song justice. You Made Me Find Myself And I'll skip her two most recent albums. That right there is good enough, IMO, to see what LeAnn is capable of. I don't consider any of those songs bland myself. Well, I hope you take time to hear the clips to at least a few of these and let me know what you think. .... Anyone who is reading this. I'd love to hear other peoples opinions.

I am surprised of the lack of interest in "I Need You". When it first came out and long after, I didn't care much for it but I have really took a new interest in it in the past year or so.

ok, i was looking back at all of my CD's from when i still bought those and i was shocked to see that LeAnn's "Twisted Angel" was the first Country album I ever bought/or received as a gift. i bought it with birthday money one year because "Life Goes On" was my favorite song ever at that time. i don't think i ever listened to any other song off that album though but we were just talking about our favorite LeAnn songs so i had to mention that song! my favorite LeAnn songs are: (i don't know any of her older stuff, so this is some of her more recent stuff) I Need You Can't Fight The Moonlight Life Goes On Something's Gotta Give Probably Wouldn't Be This Way Nothin' 'Bout Love Makes Sense Nothin' Better To Do What I Cannot Change and thats all i have ever heard of her singles (that i recall anyways), except for the ones i don't like... Good Friend..., Some People, How Do I Live i would probably recognize some of her other stuff if i heard it though.

Don't shoot me, but I'm about to offer one possible contributing factor as to why LeAnn can't seem to get to superstar-level stardom at present. Is it possible that it's because she's lazy? It sounds bad, but I mean "lazy" in the sense that she doesn't work as hard for it as let's say, Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood. (I'm not trying to start anything and I hope you guys know that from my posting history. This is purely for discussion purposes.) I don't follow Taylor's career much, but I have heard about how she signs for her fans after shows; I've seen her do radio tours and interviews; in other words, I can clearly see how hard she works just by keeping up with general country music goings-on. As for Carrie, I've been following her career from the get-go and I know how, even though she already had an Idol fanbase, she worked her ass off-- from signing autographs after shows and doing countless radio interviews (even while sick as a dog!) to now, doing 5 headlining concerts a week (even while sick as a dog!). In sum, and as one writer once described these two, you can clearly see their "drive" to succeed.
Shut me down if I'm wrong since I don't follow LeAnn's career closely, but Zach's post reminded me of how the release of Family was delayed because LeAnn didn't want the promotion blitz to interfere with her birthday? Or something? I don't think I just imagined this, hmm. Anyway, I don't see LeAnn on radio tours or doing satellite interviews. Basically, I could be completely wrong, but I just don't get the sense that she's working her ass off... which might be very helpful if you're striving for superstar-level. Let me make clear that I don't see anything wrong with having middle-level stardom (and give credit where credit is due, LeAnn already had her moment of being the "It" girl and superstar) and I do believe LeAnn can make music and have a career as long as she likes. Maybe she's content where she is right now? Has she expressed frustration and discontent with her status?
Also, I'm not saying that superstar success necessarily follows hard work or that "lazy" artists can't get anywhere. For instance, I've heard how Dolly Parton never did what a radio programmer at AllAccess described as the dog and pony show. And then there's George Strait. Yet they're both icons. Again, I'm just posing an "is it possible?" question/ theory as to why LeAnn isn't taking off .

Ya, she sure seems to be "under the weather" alot recently. I know I have said this before, but she was supposed to put on the free concert at the Iowa State Fair for Wells Fargo employees (supposedly 1 in 6 in Des Moines works for Wells Fargo), but she cancelled 2 days before the show and since Wynonna was around the area having done a show a couple days before in Des Moines.

Yeah I agree and that's what aggravates me about LeAnn. She is not very reliable at all. For instance, she is on the tour with Kenny all summer yet all her journals and blogs she is not doing any stops at radio or promo, she is just anxious to get back to Nashville to her new home she has built. Small things like that go a big way in terms of determination and drive. She could be huge right now, but she's not working at it at all. She is not appearing on the Stand Up to Cancer special because she said she would not have time with being in NYC for the new campaign she is doing and the media for that but now she's sick in NY?
She really needs to start working like she did when she was younger to get her career to a good point. Or maybe she's fine where she's at? I just think she could definately do a whole lot more to further her career. Another thing, why hasn't she done a headlining tour in forever? I think about that all the time, she just wants to do small gigs spread throughout the year, but I know if she got the right opening act she could sell tickets to arena shows.

Maybe she has a 'been there done that' attitude towards being the 'it' girl of the moment. She had her time, and surely she's made enough money to last her for the rest of the life. Maybe she's comfortable with putting out a CD that sells a few hundred thousand copies every couple of years.
