Just curious-- why do people want britney on the show so bad? She is not well enough and even when she is well, she is not all that. She either lip syncs or cannot sing at all. Personally I am looking forward to rihanna, pink and kid rock.... but it is very stupid not to include Chris Brown when he had such a HUGE year. What is up with that? Some of the performers are not even A-listers. They should have asked chris brown, usher, and madonna. Usher is not a draw for ratings on Tv.

www.mtv.com/news/articles/159...st_kanye.jhtmlKanye West And Christina Aguilera To Take The Stage At 2008 VMAs 'Hills' gang, Paris Hilton, Shia Labeouf, Ashlee Simpson and other stars added to presenters list. The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards are almost here, but big names are still being added to the talent pool of performers and presenters every day. Following Wednesday's big announcement that Britney Spears will be opening the show comes word that the incomparable Kanye West will close out the VMAs on Sunday, despite last year's oath that he'd never return. In a press conference Thursday (September 4), comedian and VMA host Russell Brand also revealed that Christina Aguilera will return this year to perform a special rendition of one of her first singles, "Genie in a Bottle," in a nod to the big show's 25th anniversary. Brand also teased what the first 30 minutes of the show would offer: Rihanna will sing; the winners for Best Female, Best Male and Best New Artist will be named; Pete Wentz, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt will appear together; Taylor Swift will introduce the Jonas Brothers' set; and Katy Perry will tackle Madonna's "Like a Virgin." T.I. and Rihanna will debut "Live Your Life," which appears on his forthcoming album, Paper Trail. This year's VMAs will unfold at the Paramount Studios lot in Hollywood, and will air live starting at 9 p.m. ET. The show will also feature live performances by Pink, Paramore, Lil Wayne and Kid Rock. DJ AM and Travis Barker will rock the party, mixing live drum beats to scratched records throughout the show. The duo will celebrate the past 25 years of music by collaborating with Katy Perry, Lupe Fiasco and the Ting Tings on new and past hits. On Thursday, MTV rolled out a long list of additional presenters, who've been confirmed for this weekend's VMAs. They include Jamie Foxx, "Gossip Girl" star Chace Crawford, a very pregnant Ashlee Simpson, John Legend, Kobe Bryant, Leona Lewis, Paris Hilton, Slash, Taylor Swift, Shia Labeouf and "The Hills" gang — Lauren Conrad, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. Previously announced VMA presenters include Michael Phelps, Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan, Scarlett Johansson, Ciara, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Christopher "McLovin" Mintz-Plasse.

I find it ironic how Katy Perry will perform "Like A Virgin" because when Christina, Britney, & Madonna did, they kissed at the end and Katy Perry's big hit is "I Kiss A Girl." Just saying, maybe there's some sort of link.

Katy Perry will tackle Madonna's "Like a Virgin." Literally. This show sounds like it could be the top hot mess event of all time.

The Like A Virgin thing is gonna be annoying - they already celebrated it on the 20th anniversary with 2 stars that deserved to be apart of it, Brit & Xtina were/are the closest to successors of Madonna, why not just have Katy do IKAG?

So Britney's opening the show? Wow. I don't know who's more stupid: Britney for her trainwreck of a performance last year, or MTV for letting her do it again.

Britney better damn well deliver something fan-f**king-tastic to warrant all this obnoxious promotion and speculation. I'm glad she is going and everything but DAMN, enough already.
As for the others, I'm excited to see Rihanna, Pink and Christina. The guys are kind of lacking this year unless I'm forgetting someone.

It's weird to not have Madonna open the 25th show.
She opened the 20th show, 15th show, and 10th show.
Beyond that she also recently celebrated her 25th year in the biz, her classic LAV performance was during the first VMAs, and she was always a huge part of MTV.
Actually, Kanye's closing performance would also be an opportunity, given that he has a guest rap on "Beat Goes On" from Madonna's current album.
Oh well.

A blog post from Taylor Swift-
Quote: I'm backstage at the VMA's.. not kidding. I'm literally sitting in the arena, about to do a run-through of the show. I'm rehearsing my lines for presenting and going over notes for my interviews tonight on the red carpet. Leona Lewis was just soundchecking and now Rihanna's getting ready to rehearse her performance! I actually get to be the MTV fashion correspondent on the red carpet tonight, so for the hour before the awards start, I'll be interviewing all the artists and celebrities on the red carpet! SO excited!!!
