The Killers Are Putting Finishing Touches On Sam's Town Follow-UpJul 29 2008 8:00 AM EDT By James Montgomery We can't promise that it'll be "one of the best albums in the past 20 years," feature a duet with Lou Reed or inspire a whole new round of rather petty feuds between guys wearing eyeliner, but we can tell you that the Killers are hard at work on the follow-up to 2006's Sam's Town, and that the album is tentatively scheduled to hit stores in November. That's according to a pair of sources with the band's label, Island Records, who told MTV News that Brandon Flowers and company are currently holed up in their brand-new Las Vegas studio (not the plush Studio at the Palms, where they recorded Sam's), putting the finishing touches on the as-yet-untitled album. The sources added that Stuart Price — a.k.a. Jacques Lu Cont/ Madonna's musical cohort/ the guy who did that really excellent remix of the Killers' "Mr. Brightside" — is producing the disc, something that bassist Mark Stoermer alluded to last year when talking to MTV News about the album, which was in its fledgling stages. "We've got some new songs, but there's a long way to go before they're ready for an album," Stoermer said at the time. "So far, they're different than Sam's Town, but nothing that we write surprises me. Some are a bit stripped down for us — whatever that means. Some have the vibe of [Jacques Lu Cont's] 'Thin White Duke Remix' of 'Mr. Brightside.' We talk about what we want for the album, but inevitably, it always gets away from us." According to Island, there are no song titles available at the moment, though in a June interview with Q magazine, Flowers mentioned a track called "Tidal Wave," which he described as "a pop song in the vein of 'Drive-In Saturday' by David Bowie. It's also a bit like 'I Drove All Night' by Roy Orbison." Fueling all this new-album hype is a "fan-club only" show the Killers have just announced, set to take place Tuesday night (July 29) at New York's Highline Ballroom. A source at Island said that the band will use the set to test out some material from the forthcoming record.

I would advise them to keep things frothy and danceable. They aren't blue collar romantics like Bruce Springsteen, so they should stop trying to sell that idea. I guess the Bowie aspirations sound kind of intriguing. More mainstream acts should be emulating Bowie, anyway.

OMG. This band can do whatever the F they want and I will love it. Sam's Town was my #1 reviewed album of 2006! A couple of my fellow Killers fanatics are seeing them at MGM Grand in Foxwoods on Thursday. I can't wait to hear some new material!

I am a proud owner of every Killers release. Their work is magic.
ST was an incredible, incredible release. 'This River Is Wild', 'Read My Mind', and 'Sam's Town' are three of the greatest songs this decade has seen.

OMG I see them tomorrow, day after my bday! I need to request Friday off because coming back from Foxwoods after that concert won't bode well for me waking up for work at 7 AM! And yes, osci, I fell in love with Shadowplay instantly. I dare to say I like it more than the original... :o

I will! It's probably going to be even more dance-y than the first though if Stuart Price is behind the boards...

OK...so I went to see The Killers at MGM in Foxwoods earlier (8 PM on the 31st) with a couple friends. After parking in the sketchy woods and smoking 2 Js, we headed to the casino. I have to say, I HATE casinos for SO many reasons, primarily being that they are life-sucking and money-stealing entities. I feel like the security guards are dementors who suck your soul (yeah, I am a dork because I reference Harry Potter, lol...) There is an unpleasant spirit of dissatisfaction and depression every time I set foot in one. I even saw a woman with a DIALYSIS machine in a wheelchair being wheeled to the slots by her family! ANYway, where do I begin? The Killers haven't toured in 9 months (according to them) and once again, they have changed their look. It's almost like they have gone back to the look of their first album, sans makeup. Brandon was completely cleanshaven and had on a 3-piece! They sang 2 new songs that sounded AWESOME! This was my 3rd time seeing them and definitely the best. The crowd also went NUTS. I have never seen a Killers crowd that pumped before! The only song I didn't LOVE live was Tranquilize but that's not saying much because it's not one of my faves anyway. I am so happy I took the day off work tomorrow (well, technically today since it's August 1)

Cannnnnn't waaaaaaaittt!!!!!!
The first time I saw The Killers was in the summer of '04, when they were first emerging, at the Austin City Limits Festival. Brandon still had that floppier haircut, and it was love at first sight.

Glad to hear Brandon is clean shaven. That was one of the main reasons The Killers struck such a chord with the general public. (i.e.: his look in the Mr. Brightside' video, SPEAKING OF WHICH I FORGOT TO ADD THAT TO MY LIST OF ALL TIME FAVORITE VIDEOS IN THE THREAD I MADE!!! :O )
Anyway, I feel Brandon's "look" was a pretty big factor in why Sam's Town underperformed.

I read that Brandon likes to drink a bunch of RedBull before he goes on stage because he likes the nervous energy it gives him. It makes sense, based on the live performances I have seen since Sam's Town was released, which is the only time I have ever seen them live. I have seen videos of performances from Hot Fuss and Brandon would just hug the microphone and sway back and forth. Now, he is a real frontman and is all over the place. It's all about Ronnie though. I love that man.

Brandon is a great frontman. I had a dream last night that somebody called my phone, and 'This River Is Wild' was my ringtone.

I'm so happy they're working with Stuart Price on this album. His remixes of Mr. Brightside and When You Were Young are some of my favorites of all time.
Also, Nike is using All These Things That I've Done in one of their ads. I see it ALL the time.
