Tonight was the first night I watched the show.
I thought both of the finalists had decent but very, very generic voices.

I was actually hoping Gabe would win, but I do like Melissa. She has a great voice, although it's nothing unique or special.

I was rooting for Gabe as well. I haven't been following the show, but I watched a couple of episodes this afternoon on CMT, and Gabe seemed to be the best. Melissa has a nice voice, but she oversings too much and there's nothing distinctive about her voice at all. Gabe's song choice has been questionable, but when he sings a song that allows the Texan in his voice to shine, I think he showed some star-power (his original song was much better than hers as well).

Did anyone else notice that the lyrics of this song are composed entirely of different questions except for a line or two in the bridge?

I'm still miffed that regardless of who won, the same song was getting released just with a different singer. That's stupid!

who cares, take the show off...the winner never amounts to anything...ex. Brad Cotter, Angela Hacker, etc. i like Chris Young, but hes strugling to find sucess too.

I do not even know the names of the last 5 winners, other than Buddy, and I think one could argue Miranda should have won the yeAr she was in.
She is so talented I think she would have made her mark without the show, but it sure did make it easier for her. Since then she has proven she has what it takes. I can't say the same about anyone else I've seen on that show.

Even though I had complained about the show weeks ago, I ended up watching the season anyway (mainly because nothing else was on TV). I had planned on watching the finale, but all my Birmingham channels (NBC is one of them) just died (right in the middle of the season finale of American Gladiator too which really pissed me off!).
However, at the very last minute of the finale, the channel came back on, and Melissa was in the middle of singing that song with the confetti falling. I wasn't surprised. I was actually starting to like the black-haired girl (Shawn was her name, I believe?).
As for the song, what little bit I heard sounded just like an Idol finale song. And now, I learn that this song was chosen for the winner, so no matter who won the show, this song would be released. There is yet another thing they are doing just like Idol.
We'll see if Melissa can do anything. She's got a good voice, but as others have said, I feel it's very bland. I rarely feel any emotion from her when she sings. On top of that, she does have image going against her. It's sad, but true. I don't see her going too far.
I think Chris Young and Buddy Jewel were the best winners. Buddy had 2 great songs, but has since disappeared (the latest song I heard was very stupid to record, in my opinion). Chris's "Drinkin' Me Lonely" probably tops both of Buddy's songs, yet it did nothing on the charts for some reason.
It's funny that the only big success from Nashville Star is from a contestant who didn't even win. I think this show is going to need a successful winner (or at least another successful contestant) if it wants to last.

I could argue that the second and third best contestants they have ever had on the show also did not when. Travis Howard, who came in 2nd to Buddy Jewel and beat Miranda on the first season. And Kacey Musgraves who took like 5th last year or something crazy low.

So, my first season Nashville Star, and the Top 3 were okay. The song is good, but I liked it better on the show, seemed less generic there somehow (I blame the producer!).

I wanted her to win the whole time! She has a great voice. I wish nothing but the best for her.

The studio version of this song doesn't do it any favors. The production sounds amateurish, which doesn't help an already indistinctive voice.
And as someone mentioned, right, wrong or indifferent, her image will already hold her back so without standout vocals, I don't see much hope for her.

Travis Howard, who came in 2nd to Buddy Jewel and beat Miranda on the first season. He actually was number 9. John Michael Martinez came in 2nd then. This is an uninspiring song from an overrated contestant in the most foul season of the show. It's sad this is released while nothing from the Hackers was released last year.

I was thinking that Martinez was 2nd on Season 1 (although I believe it's John Arthur Martinez). I didn't start watching NS until season 2, but I remember seeing the Nashville Star runner-up on his debut album sticker. To throw a few more names into the hat, my favorite NS contestants over the years have been Lance Miller, Chris Young, and George Canyon (well, and of course Miranda).

the only person on this show with even a 1% chance of being known in a year is Ashlee Hewitt. She could jump on this new Taylor Swift, Kellie Pickler, Julianne Hough, Miranda Lambert blonde girl bandwagon and actually do something.

^ I agree. She's not yet a finished product (and didn't deserve to win), but she has more potential as an artist than pretty much the rest of the contestants combined. She has a solid voice (enunciation is something she has to work on though) and she really seemed to be passionate about her music. She had so much natural personality in her voice, I think she could become the next Miranda Lambert (in time of course).

I agree this was easily the worst season, but I thought Melissa was good and knew she was going to win right off the bat. I just know that from being on that show that she's not going to get any promotion.

My guess is that this is pretty much just a dummy single, much like what AI does. They will promote this heavy off the bat, hope it creates an itinial buzz, throw an album together in a month or so, and that the buzz sells a few records. After that, I imagine she'll be an afterthought. Of course, if by some off chance the album sells well (which I just can't see happening), then they would likely try to promote a legit single.

I don't watch this show regularly, but I did watch several of the performance videos on Youtube, I think Gabe is clearly the best of the bunch this year. As for this girl, I don't know, she has an okay voice, but she clearly doesn't understand how to "feel" a song, she merely sings the song, and adds some belts here and there. I don't think she will make much of an impact.

Anyone in a bar with a guitar and a dream sounds like Gabe, and if they can't make it, odds are he won't either.

I don't think she has a great voice (her cover of Britney's 'Crazy' gave me nightmares), but she definitely fits into the "cute blonde" mold that is popular right now. I've thought that since the beginning.
