I'm surprised no Adds Date for this yet? And I'm just loving the Martina duet. That should be released. It goes for adds September 29th. I'm still loving the Martina duet too. Single #4, hopefully.

Am I the only person who considers this to be one of his very weakest singles ever?
Consider some of his hits from the month of January in previous years....
'Between The Devil And Me'--#1 song in America on this date in 1998, replacing 'A Broken Wing' in the process.
'Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning?)'--spent the third of its five weeks at #1 on this date in 2002, denying George Strait another #1 single with the extraordinary 'Run'.
'Remember When'---Enroute to #1 on this date in 2004.
'Small Town Southern Man'----Enroute to #1 one year ago this week.
I think the world of AJ, but he has done much better IMHO.

^ Oh there is no question that this is one of his very weakest singles. It sounds like something from the What I Do era, but thankfully it's doing ok, because I don't want one bad single to send AJ back into the tailspin he was in a few years ago. I just hope they release one of the many fine songs off of this album next.

I expect his next single to be a ballad, and 'I Wish I Could Go Back' would be #1 on my list for his next release.

That would work fine for me, as would Listen To You Senses or If You Want To Make Me Happy (the latter being my preference, but all would be good). My gut tells me that they play the safe route again though, and go with 1976. I like that song just fine, but I don't think it's one of the standout tracks on Good Time.

Wow, this song has not been discussed much on here in the past couple months. I took a look at the post dates and I would say that is enough to prove that many either don't care for it or just don't have much to say about it.
I think Country Boy was an obvious choice for a single and isn't so bad. There are many ballads that SHOULD be the next single but I agree that 1976 will most likely be the next release.

This may be my least favorite AJ song. It's just so out of character to hear him drop blatant double entendres like "Climb in my bed, I'll take you for a ride". That, and almost none of the lines come even close to rhyming ("ashpalt" / "red dirt", for instance).

this is definitely Alan's worst single ever. i really dont want this to go #1. even if the almost-as-bad "Don't" has to block it from #1.

I didn't really like this song too much in the beginning, but after Giants, I really began to enjoy it. It's kinda like "Mercury Blues" and "I Don't Even Know Your Name" and it's gotten to me. I don't turn the channel anymore when it's on.

I expect his next single to be a ballad, and 'I Wish I Could Go Back' would be #1 on my list for his next release. Me, too. I was especially annoyed when "Country Boy" was chosen because I've been waiting for "I Wish I Could Back Up" to be released. The latter seems like an obvious single, and I think it would sell Alan's album better than "Country Boy" has. I would have also liked to have seen "Long, Long Way" released, and maybe "Never Loved Before."

I agree, this release has cost AJ sales. This song appeals to people who liked the last single, and there were 4 or 5 songs available that would have broadened the appeal. It's a remarkable and wide-ranging album, but I don't see how you can know that from the last two singles, even if you like them.
I don't like 1976, but that would have been a better choice than this one. Certainly I'd go with Back Up. Never Loved Before might have encountered resistance from Martina's label but that too would have opened up a new group of potential buyers.
So while I don't dislike this song, I really don't think it represents the content of the album well.

Another thing I realized about this song, he can't keep the chorus straight. Sometimes it's "down country roads", other times "winding roads". Sometimes it's "where you need to go", other times "want to go". It's "Where I Come From" syndrome all over again.

I would love for him to have released 'IWICBU' instead of this with the hope that it would have made a serious run at being 2009's #1 single, or certainly snag a spot in the year-end top five.
But I didn't get my wish.

This has taken over #1 on the Real Time Tracker from Brad/Keith, who had been #1 up until last night. Alan was probably helped out by a "Five O'Clock Whistle" version of "Country Boy," which was sent out to radio on Friday.

I think AJ is likely to win, and it's possible that the top 5 songs on the 1/31 chart will wind up within 500k of each other. Edited to update AJ's position -- he's #1 as of 12:45am Eastern time. Hard to believe anyone will pass him now. 3 #1 hits in a row for AJ!

Congrats on AJ's third straight #1 from his Good Time album, and Country Boy makes the rare leap from #5 to #1. This is Alan's 25th #1 on Billboard, tying him with Dolly Parton for 8th all-time (only artists in front of him are Strait, Twitty, Haggard, Milsap, Alabama, Pride, and Arnold).
Looks like a very good chance now for AJ to eventually reach the 30 #1s mark, something that I was beginning to doubt heavily, in the midst of that four-year #1 drought from early 2004 to early 2008. Especially with the quicker turnover at #1 nowadays, it shouldn't be tough for him to find five more #1s.
Of course, I can't think of any back-to-back #1s of AJs, that are collectively as weak as Good Time and Country Boy. But it's great to see that Strait isn't the only greybeard who's still capable of a lot of national airplay.

I have to agree with you about 'Good Time' & 'Country Boy' being his weakest pair of back-to-back charttoppers ever.
It was eleven years ago this month that 'Between The Devil And Me' started the year at #1, from his exhilirating 'Everything I Love' CD, which also included three more #1 singles 'Who's Cheatin' Who?', 'Little Bitty' & 'There Goes'.
I'm not sure if those were four consecutive number one singles, but I'm sure somebody else can answer that.

Everything I Love (which peaked at #9) was sandwiched between Little Bitty and Who's Cheatin' Who, so he only had 3 straight #1's (and actually, only There Goes reached #1 on BB, the other two reached #1 on R&R I believe). This is Alan's first string of 3 consecutive BB #1's since 1995, when I Don't Even Know Your Name; Tall, Tall, Trees; and I'll Try reached the top. His longest string of BB #1's came from 1991-1992, when he sent 4 straight singles to #1 (from I'd Love You All Over Again through Dallas).

Didn't AJ have another string of the straight charttoppers @ BB starting in the fall of 2001 with 'When Somebody Loves You', 'Where Were You' (When The World Stopped Turning?) and 'Drive (For Daddy Gene)?'
I know that all three of those songs did hit #1 @ R&R, including five weeks each for those last two tunes.

"It's Alright to Be a Redneck" would've interrupted the streak even if WSLY was a #1, as Redneck was pulled after one week at #53.

I goofed; it was 'Where I Come From' which hit #1 in October of 2001, replacing 'What I Really Meant To Say', followed by 'Only In America', 'Angry All The Time', & 'I Wanna Talk About Me' @ R&R.
'When Somebody Loves You' must have preceded 'Where I Come From'.
