Man ,I love me some Alan Jackson but Country Boy (with Good Time as a close second) is the most pointless song on the disc! I guess that does make it a perfect match for the current country market though.

I guess since I'm not a fan of the cancer/Alzheimer's/fill-in-the-blank-disease songs or blah/commercial country music, this is right up my alley. I enjoy the twangy, rural, have yourself some country fun types of songs, like this and "Good Time". This is a song that could have been sung be me or any of my friends. And I love the hint of "Country Boy Can Survive" sounds in the beginning guitar and throughout. A maybe a little bit of Billy Dean's "Billy the Kid" too.

What, nobody thinks this is pretty much the same thing as Luke Bryan's "Country Man"?

ARGH! I thought "I Wish I Could Back Up" was the obvious 3rd single. This is two consecutive mediocre choices from the album, in my view, although "Good Time" did its job, I guess. I'm very surprised that they're releasing "Good Time" and "Country Boy" back to back.

What, nobody thinks this is pretty much the same thing as Luke Bryan's "Country Man"? Yeah, too similar to both be singles at the same time.

I guess that does make it a perfect match for the current country market though. I agree. This album is exceptional, but this song is really lackluster. This sounds like a label inspired album filler that he had to record to add another more contemporary sounding song. It isn't overly creative in any way. Lyrics are decent, but unoriginal and kind of bland. Music is too watered down, especially considering the quality of music on the cd. Plus the song isn't anywhere near as catchy as Good Time, or the aformensioned Country Man. I was really hoping that they would go with I Still Like Bologna or take a real risk and go with Long Long Way. But there were so many songs worthy of release, almost anything else would've made me happy (Never Loved Before, If You Want To Make Me Happy, Listen To Your Senses, or even I Wish I Could Back Up).

I can't say that I have been the biggest Alan Jackson fan in the world, but he has had some great songs. I find that his more uptempo songs get on my nerves pretty quick ( Chattahooche, That'd Be Alright, Good Time, Little Man, Where I Come From) but his slower stuff I love. I haven't heard this but reading the lyrics is all I have to do to know how this song is. I wish he would do like Keith and Brad and release Hole In The Wall from the Who I Am album. I just feel like saying "Alan, we get it. You are a country boy. A lot of your songs have already let us know that."

Does anyone honestly believe a newcomer like Luke Bryan will hurt someone as big as Alan? No matter how similar the song titles are, it ain't going to hurt Alan at all. If anything, it'll hurt Luke Bryan (unfortunately)

If anything, it'll hurt Luke Bryan (unfortunately) Yep. This could really hurt Luke's chances at making the T10. Isn't it ironic though, that the 20-something sings "Country Man", and the 40-something sings "Country Boy".

I had to go check the track list just to make sure that this was actually on the album, because I had no recollection of it. Then I listened to it and remembered why I had forgotten about it.

well it really wouldn't make sense for Luke to say "Boy" either. he is a man as well. Alan is the only confused one here

I am amazed at how much airtime Alan is getting. This completely throws away the theory that radio stations only play young guys now.

Well, that theory realy isn't true for guys at all. George is still racking up hits in his 50's. Alan and Kenny are still successful in thier 40's, and Toby and Tim (although thier star power is fading) still do pretty well.

Alan and George are still sticking to their neotraditional ways. Not completely counting 'Shiftwork,' they are trying pretty hard to stay traditional. Many other artists, like Chesney, Toby, and Tim are starting to branch out to a less 'country' style in order to keep producing radio hits. I tremendously respect George and Alan for doing this. For example Listening to Chesney's first album, a song like 'I Finally Found Somebody' would probably not be released to today's radio. Haha.

^ Gotcha. Although Good Time and this song are far more contemporary than the rest of his album.

I love the CD as well, and seventeen new tunes is extremely generous. I'm also disappointed in this being the third single as well.
I do hope that the very moving and scintillating 'I Wish I Could Back Up' would be the fourth single.
There's no doubt in my mind that not only it would have the potential to spend multiple weeks at #1, but that it would also make a great way to launch the race for 2009's #1 single, something that he hasn't done in almost twenty years.

Is this REALLY the next single? What about 1976? Oh well, Alan will probably release 5 or 6 songs anyway, and this is a nice song, but there are so many other better ones. Well, good luck to ya Alan!! Have a good day!

Still haven't heard this, but I wanted "Never Loved Before". That's one of my favorite AJ songs (and miles ahead of the first two singles). Based on the comments thus far, I doubt I will like "Country Boy" more than "Never Loved Before".

Not impressed at all. I agree, it's boring and really nothing special. I really wish they had gone with "Never Loved Before".

same here. "Never Loved Before" is high and above my favorite on this album. and maybe my favorite from Alan ever. and it would be good to hear Martina on radio again.

'Country Boy' is another safe choice for a single. I LOVE 'Good Time' though.
I was hoping for 'I Wish I Could Back Up', '1976' or 'Never Loved Before.' They HAVE to release this. Martina doesn't have anything on the charts and this would be a big hit in a time where duets are rare.

The charts do need duets and the Alan/Martina one would have been a GREAT choice. Definately a top 5. It would be good to see Martina back on top again.

I'm surprised no Adds Date for this yet?
And I'm just loving the Martina duet. That should be released.
