Another day, another girl group! They really are running out of names, aren't they? They are very pretty though, I'll give them that. Anyway, Atlanta are 5 girls from Scotland (Lisa, Julie, Gill, Natalie and Carlyn), and "5 Star Lover" is their debut single. They are signed to Dream Hits Records (!). The first round of mixes were sent out a while back, with remixes by The Soul Seekerz and Booker T. The second set of mixes were sent out last week, and it includes 2 new "Retro" mixes by The Soul Seekerz, which are causing quite a stir. If they are expecting this to succeed, then Dream Hits Records better get their game on. Atlanta list Kylie Minogue (always a good things) and Kumi Koda (!) as their influences. You can find more about the girls and listen to the remixes at their MySpace site: www.myspace.com/atlantagirlgroupAtlanta "5 Star Lover" [Dream Hits Records UK] UK Promo CD Maxi Single 1. Soul Seekerz Presents Retro Extended Edit ATLANTA 5 Star LoverRelease Date: TBC DREAM H RECORDSFormed in Glasgow in 2007, Atlanta consists of 5 young Scottish girls looking to make their mark in the world of music. Having recently supported Shayne Ward at the SECC, Atlanta have just completed the recording of their debut album with their first single, 5-Star Lover, set for release in September 2008. Before that, commencing in July, the girls will embark on their first club tour, promoting the single 5 Star lover. They also have a major support slot lined up for late October, details of which will be announced later. The Main Radio version of the single has been mixed by legendary New York Producer, Mic Angelo, who has worked with such stars as Seal, Mariah Carey, Busta Rhymes and Sheryl Crow at his studio in Hempstead, NY. Added to this, check out the hot remixes from Booker T, superb R&B remixes from Dark Star and killer dance remixes from the one and only Soul Seekerz. If this wasn't enough, just wait until you hear the Soul Seekerz retro remixes which are to follow. They are peak time commercial mixes that we know you are all going to love!

I just can't get into this song. I tried. The vocals are okay. I do like the remix productions though. I prefer the sound of the Booker T mixes. It really reminds me of Hani's mix of "The Real Me" by Svala.

No way - Booker T! Hopefully it'll be something akin to his work back in the Garage days. Thanks for the info.

Sandeep, you can listen to all the mixes at their MySpace page: www.myspace.com/atlantagirlgroupI would compare the Booker T. mixes to his mixes for All Saint's "Never Ever", i.e. one hot mess. That being said, I think the Booker T. mixes are the best ones. The Soul Seekerz mixes are bad, and the so-called "Retro" mixes are everything but. Utter cr@p.

I wish there was a legal way to purchase these...since 7Digital stopped selling to the U.S...though given Swede's review...perhaps it's best that I don't purchase them

I think the main problem is/are, as Sean said, the vocals. The vocals are just dire and not even the most accomplished producer/remixer could make them bearable. This is the type of release you would expect to have 10 dubs! Also, a US site for Digital7 is coming soon...

Interesting...though the only reason I ever used 7Digital before was for the imports...for songs released stateside I'd probably still use iTunes.

The Soul Seekerz Retro mixes make the song a lot more tolerable than it was before. These mixes call to mind a good Eurodance mix by Xenomania in the mid 90's.

Well Booker's All Saints Remixes are very legendary here in London (complete with the classic Todd Terry "Jumpin" sample) - and I love them. So any comparisons would make me happy. It's a good mix, keeps with the popular piano vibe (and defo a step up from his dreadful Leona "Bleeding Love" Remix).
